Yeahs "learning through death" is kind of like the point. Like Super Meat Boy, each failure is a learning experience, not a punishment I'm playing on PC (only have iPhone 4) and I'm actually 6 hours in and about 75% through
Yep. Even moreso than SMB where you could theoretically do most levels on the first try here you're supposed to die a lot. It's, like, the theme of the game.
After infinity blade Dungeons being officially cancelled its another great shock. In my opinion its worth a 4/4.5 rating!
I've disagreed with reviews in the past, but I generally just shrug and move on. This is just stupid. I posted about this but I need to say it again, this is like the jack hole that gave Toy Story 3 a bad review. The game is excellent. The puzzles are challenging. The boy IS a bit floaty, but so is Sackboy, doesn't mean LBP is a bad game (although he's REALLY floaty there). And saying "the puzzles are haaaarerd" just shows that the reviewer isn't then one to review the game. But looking at Mr. Leray's history, there are clearly some games that received accurate scores. But those that got higher scores and clearly, CLEARLY were so far behind Limbo in every aspect are as follows: Wraithborne Ash II Liberation Maiden Kairo REPULZE For the love of Pete... 4.5 stars for that?! Heads Up, I spoke too soon. That got 4.5 stars too. Angel Salvation Monkey Quest (?!?) Climber Brothers Some of these I will concede, MAYBE Kairo, but the fact that Wraithborne along is higher than Limbo says a lot. So that puts the reviews in perspective. The GOOD thing is that Limbo stands on its own, and I hope for this people also review 148's review, which gives this a more than deserving 4.5 stars. It's a shame though, because these weird deviations from TA end up making reviews unreliable at best. There are a few reviewers that I feel I can put far more trust into, but it's clear Joseph isn't one of them. There should be a second opinion by ANYONE else, and I would bet any reasonable reviewer would give this a much more fair score.
I stopped reading TA's articles and reviews quite a while back, but when someone told me they had rated LIMBO 3/5 I just had to take a look. And I was reminded very quickly that I'm here only for the forums, not the journalistic content.
I'm here for exactly the same reason, the forums. People who play games in genre they like are better for feedback on a game than some random reviewer that I have no idea what he likes or doesn't on gaming. I've come to depend on Greyskull DBC, E-P, And others (too many to list) when making buying decisions. Part of why the forums also work so well is that I think most the regular non-gaming--industry people here have the intent to help others by posting a view about something rather than just posting to get a rise.
The problem I have with the review is that LIMBO really doesn't need reviews about...LIMBO anymore, really. I would've much preferred the review to focus on the port itself. How the controls translate, blah blah blah. Whatever though, as far as I'm concerned (and by the universal acclaim it's gotten everywhere else, iOS or not), this game is one of the greatest games ever made and nothing will change that.
I enjoy reading reviews but nowadays i dont take them to heart, we have youtube videos to watch, we have forums to see lots of other peoples opinions. To me reviews are just one persons opinion and with games (and music etc) theres a huge range of different genres we're not ever going to agree. I mean on this forum i sometimes see a game and think 'ha ha this looks terrible' and seconds later theres 4 posts from people praising and saying how good it is, i started realising that we all do have different tastes ! Even more so when i discovered what a 'bronie' is ! I'm loving Limbo, yeah it can be frustrating, frustrating to a good level, some puzzles have got me stuck, i see how to do it on youtube and then i cant believe i didnt think of it in the first place. Love the way it looks, just near perfect in my view. Again i'm so glad this has been ported over I'm very happy to have this on my device, would prefer a button to jump than swipe but i'm loving it so far
That's what surprised me. Intiatally I thought the reviewer must have had issues with the port. While i thought the control scheme was great I was interested to hear how TA thought it could have been improved. When the issue turned out to be the core game I was, for lack of more stupid word, flabbergasted. Limbo is nothing short of a masterpiece. Limbo on ios is, for me, the definitive version
Agreed. I believe I even said that earlier in the thread. *sigh* Oh, and yeah...flabbergasted is a (stupidly) good word to describe my initial reaction to the review too.
well there's not much we can do about it that we havent already done. the comments on the article have done more than enough to convince someone to purchase limbo instead of listen to a rating. i dont even like puzzle games btw and its my first time playing haha
Same here. I was a first time Limbo player when it hit the iOS, and i was simply blown away by the game's controls, puzzles, visuals and overall atmosphere. The TA review doesnt give it justice. Perhaps the reviewer isnt meant for challenging puzzle games and should stick to high scoring ones.
I'm going to just cut out the bad parts from my visits to TA and focus on the good. The good being the community on the forums. This is the best community out there with mostly level headed serious iOS gamers that I've found. ... Limbo related, today is payday... I'm going to grab an iTunes card tonight or tomorrow morning so I can get Limbo, Home (while it's $0.99), tiny thief and maybe one or two other games from the last couple weeks. What a great time to be an iOS gamer.
No idea what all the hype over this is about. Yes it has stellar art style, but that seems to be it. It's just a typical tap-tap run left/right and dodge-enemies type game with nothing special that other games don't have? From the description I thought I would be playing some completely revolutionary side scroller or something.
Well I think you haven't got the point at all.It not like those graphical, fighting games that you have played. Its the atmosphere that's the whole in it self. The simplicity and the puzzles that's what makes it a great game!
You must be kidding, right? It's anything but that. It is reminiscent of Out of This World, where there are increasingly complex and difficult puzzles. Have you played it? If not, that totally explains your ignorance and I would kindly ask that you play it before making these types of comments. Seriously, "dodge-enemies type game" is the antithesis of what this game represents, which really just answers my question as to whether you've played it or not.
LOL. Nothing of what you said in this post is even accurate. Tap-tap run and dodge enemies? I dont think you even own the game, and yet you rated it based on how you think it is.
