Day 6 - post 1 Well, got a little more playtime in today and got the DeathRay tower, which is awesome by the way. Just a few things I'd like to mention. Should be "New Tower" instead of "Recommend". Should say "Deals heavy damage to multiple units" instead of "Powerful Dealer For Multiple Unit". Hear I noticed that the MP is covering up the top left tower, and is effectively covering up the towers level. This should probably be fixed. I really like the DeathRay towers, but I think it would make sense for the towers to face in the direction they are shooting...just a thought. I noticed something while playing that I didn't particularly like. Objects that are very tall and visually take up more than one space but in a 3D space, like the Lich, would only take up one space, physically take up more than one space. In other words, I would like to be able to place a tower where the Lich's head is, but obviously behind it, since there should be a space there but it as if the Lich is laying down and taking up two spaces. Well, that's about it for now.
Day 7 #2 #1 The Thunder skill. Even it has been upgraded to the MAX, the duration is still too short. I think you should extend more. #2 The buildings should can be destroyed by skills as well. #3 How do you mark S, A, B, C, D or F? #4 Players can only revive once in a stage? I revived once. When the Lich was killed for the 2nd time, the game was over as a result of Defeat. From the using Revive screen, there's no sign or a word telling you can only use Revive for only once. Just saying that the set of Revive is just for current wave/stage. I think it should mean you can continue revive, but next time you won't use this set. #5 Does anyone have such red screen during pause? (NO PHOTOSHOP!!!)
Day 6 - post 2 Okay, just a few more things for today. Tomorrow I should have a bit more. This should definitely say something like "Towers surrounding an Obelisk will have improved efficiency". here is another example of something that annoys me. There are rocks right underneath the skill icons, which breaks the symmetry of the map. I know that the only reason those rocks are there is to give a reason why towers can't be summoned there, but I seriously think that is just cheap and a bit on the lazy side. I definitely think that the UI should have a dedicated section of screen that does not obscure the map in any way. Also, as I said before, objects like the Lich's head should not take up a space on the map as in a 3D environment the Lich would take up one space and that space should be able to house a tower. These are my personal opinions, but I definitely think this would make the game a bit more professional and fun. Well, sorry to cut this one short but I have work tomorrow and I need sleep. I'm enjoying the game a lot and I am eager to see how this game evolves over time.
Day 7 Post#2 #2 Not all the skills should destroy buildings. For example harvest night lvl 19 will destroy 80% of buildings at once, that's not right. BTW can someone test and confirm/bust the bug I found about touching the display with huge flat area of skin. Especially I'm interested in iPad confirming.
Day 7 Post #1 Suggestion: I think adding a Start of War Sound Effect or something like that will be a good feature. There will be a Sound of Horn, Soldiers ATTACK!! voice or Marching Soldiers sound effect before starting the wave or level. It would make players feel some sort of readiness or preparation for the upcoming waves of enemies. The starting sound effect can be a from enemy's chant or attack voice, war horn, march, or from your alarm sound. I've made an example of what it will look or sound like in the game in the video below. I also think having an ending Evil Laugh from the Lich would be better after finishing or killing the final wave. Like it will say Muahahahaha! Pitiful humans., Muahahahahaha!!, etc.. I've also included a sample of it in the last part of the video below but I've made a different voice LOL.
Fun Post We may as well add a Combo Meter (number of monsters killed without the Lich getting hit) and have the Lich go: "Killing Spree!" "Monster Kill!" "Ultra Kill!" "Wicked Sick!"
I just wanted to mention that auto rotate should be enabled for iPad so that smart cover can be used. I think Lich Defense is a solid TD game. It has a few innovative game elements but nothing that really jumps out that says buy me over every other TD games. I don't thnk I will spend more than 3-5 dollars on this, including IAP. For sure don't price it any more than Field Runners 2 for iPad. I might be more inclined to pay a little more if there will be additional free contents to be released over the next year (new maps, new towers, new units, new modes, etc). The pricing of the IAP is concerning to say the least. I am unfortunately not able to get through level 6 in the Lava theme. I am on my 3rd try today. It takes literally over an hour to get through a level. You have to be really dedicated to be able to finish the game in normal mode. That would be another concern. It would be nice if someone can post a video or a screenshot to show how to beat some of the more troublesome levels. However with so many upgrade combinations, it may be difficult to replicate the results. May I suggest adding an easy mode for the casual gamer in the final release?
Day 7 Post #2 Suggestion: Living Armor Tower I think it is better if the Living Armor Tower can also be unlocked after finishing the game in NORMAL mode. I think it would be a great reward for players after completing the game in NORMAL mode to have a reward like this to use for the HARD mode and for completing the Quests in the NORMAL mode. Hope it will be like this since the Living Armor Tower cost high to summon and also high to upgrade. I also noticed that upgrading the Living Armor Tower also can make the price go much higher to summon that it would be almost impossible to use in NORMAL mode due to low MP rewards per kill in NORMAL mode.
Hahahaha. I think this will be good specially if no waves are passing on your towers for a while. Like the Lich will randomly say Weak pathetic Humans! Muahahaha!, or something like that when nothing is hitting your Lich for a while. Lol.
Even the tower is unlocked, the build cost is over 2,000 and the first upgrade cost is over 20,000. Is that possible? This tower is unique for Super-IAP-Donors!
It only cost that much because you've fully upgraded the tower in the Tower Upgrade screen. Lol. It only cost less than 1,000 I think on Level 1 and only 2,500 to upgrade to Level 2 and 5,000 for Level 3. The build cost for a Level 20 Living Armor is acceptable on in HARD mode where you can receive lots of MP from killing an enemy bit in NORMAL mode, no way you can afford this tower. Lol. Completing both NORMAL and HARD modes or getting 60/60 quests to unlock the tower would be pointless since you've already finished the game on both difficulty and won't be needing any use for this tower anymore. So I think finishing NORMAL mode or finishing all 30 QUEST in NORMAL mode would be much better. Lol.
*non-countable comment* You forgot about infinity mode. Lol. BUT I finally agree with you. After unlocking it, you won't have any advantage, because it's not powerful at level 1, but it will bring inspiration to players
If I rated Lich Defense on App Store I would give it a 3.5 (out of 5). Later today I will post a summary of my 7 days of pros / cons / recommendations justifying this rating. [I rarely rate things on App Store because I think casual users over react to anything other than 5 stars]. Lich customization may need some tweaking. Imagine traditional RPGs allow refinements to focus on, for example, strength for physical combat or wisdom magic skills (brute physically adapt melee combat warrior or fraile but magically skilled mage). I am not sure Lich Defense has enough variety in Lich customization for stats to drastically change Lich play style; granted Lich's are typically magic based. I can't imagine even if I upgraded accordingly I could produce a magic powerhouse by pumping all upgrade resources only into magic. The refinements from level to level feel minor. It may be that may strategy had been to upgrade in a balanced fashion; if I had more time I might replay and only upgrade Power to see if I can make Lich a deathly sniper difficult to approach. I understand there need to be limits on Lich to balance gameplay but wonder about the range of extremes possible. Is my Lich really different from m13's or do they all end up similarly regardless of upgrade specifics? The upgrade system is a strength of LD so anything highlighting it would help. Ability to access upgrades and Lich customization from the main menu and/or campaign selection screen. It is minor but awkward that you can only access upgrades from the level selection screen, 3 screens deep from the start. I went back to play Elf Defense and review my feedback from ED beta to compare. If LD is the second game by Jelly Oasis it stands that is should be a clear improvement but I do not feel that is entirely the case. The game play mechanics are better in Lich Defense but the cosmetic details are superior in ED. It's as if Jelly Oasis took the feedback from about generic gameplay in Elf Defense and improved gameplay mechanics but abandoned a lot of the polish. Elf Defense art design set-up is more unique and visually pleasing than LD with ED showing top notch characterization. ED's in-game menu seems streamlined and superior. However, LD benefits over ED by LD being more frantic with option of 4x speed and enemies that seem faster. Additionally, LD has offensive base abilities, an amazing magic system, and good customization. LD has a more serious tone than ED, which is good, but poorly executed. Overall ED feels much more polished (due to unique characters and better graphics / cosemtic design), granted it is a final commercial build compared to this beta, but the difference is so grating it's hard to believe these two products were developed by the same studio. Light hearted but filled with black comedy is my recommendation on theme direction. My problem with LD is that it has no direction seeming too generic and any thematic elements are under-developed. It is neither light hearted nor dark, it is simply a lich with magic and some near stock art enemies lacking sustainable cohesiveness. Thematically Lich Defense feels like the set-up to a good joke but someone forgot the punchline, no emotional payoff (although game mechanics are solid). It might as well feature stick figures. Good thought, it would be interesting if there were a way to instruct DeathRay to just fire in one direction. It limits their effectiveness when a beautiful straight shot is screwed up by unexpected and inefficient pivot turns. Short attention span deathrays; lethal but easily distracted. ...Alternatively DeathRay wandering has covered for me at times. The predictably erratic lasering lends itself to strategy; placing DeathRays closer to Lich at the end of battlezones where there will be enemies only in one direction is effective. This too is awkward, but tolerable. Hypothetically an isometric 3D style tower defense would be interesting. The taller buildings seem un-necessarily cluttered. Great idea! This an example of something the developers could do to build on The Lich as a central "hero" creature. Confirmed on iPod Touch 3G 32GB (3GS). Although I am not sure if it's the skin contact or shifting device orientation that freezes it. Good observation.
DAY 5 post #2 Not sure if people meet the same problem. I upgrade towers in shop. For example, I upgrade rocketeer to level 4. I originally thought it would have the same effects like upgrading in game play. Unfortunately, I didn't see any changes in game whille the bar status of power, speed from rocketeer the same as before. Then what's the use of upgrading towers in shope? waste of my gold.
A totally customizable tower allowing users to specify from menu upgrade fire rate, range, and power as well as 1 "special feature" (from a preselected list, i.e. effect magic users, restores Lich health, or increased critical rate) or attack mode (electrical/air/arrow/etc) would be interesting. The art could be a obelisk or black hole image suited to any style. It could upgrade like the Lich does by user assigning lebel points.
