Unfortunately, I am noticing that this is how I feel as well. It is certainly a very nice, well-made TD game but nothing that offers anything new or particularly exciting... but still it should do well for the folks who just need every single TD game on the market. I would love to see some sort of Bonus levels or something special after completing a level with all gold Qs or whatever they are. Perhaps if only, the level being layed out backwards or having a limited amount of pre-determined towers available to use. Something that has me really wanting to perfect the level and keep playing so I can unlock the bonus levels. Also, I'm not sure this is common or not but I would love to be able to see the range of the tower before I decide to build or not. There are some situations and layouts of the stages where I can't decide if building a certain tower in that spot will grant me the range I am looking for. A simple circle displaying the range ahead of time would be very helpful to me...
Long waves in the Lava stage are amazing, I was psyched when I played the first level... perfect level pacing. I am having some stability issues in Lava level stage 1. Several time LD quit responding to me, similar to the multitasking bug that causes LD not to respond to user touch. At times this is brief such as casting a spell the aura circle designating range gets stuck without casting the spell but other times it is game breaking. I will experiment further and report back if I can replicate a pattern. It may be a conflict with the earthquake effect or something with spells. If I figure it out then I will report back. I have not had significant stability problems on my iPod Touch 3G 32GB running iOS 5.0.1 until this point. Maybe turning off environemntal effects will help. Will report back. Edit: I been unable to duplicate this freeze/nonresponsiveness on Lava level 1, it may be due to quirkiness with Game Center logging in(?) or spells but is hopefully a fluke. This occurred entirely within the game without multitasking or app switching. Will make another post if it happens again. Accessible main menu while there is an ongoing game might be nice. To be able to pause, go check tower stats or change out spells in main menu, then return to game progress. If tower information, spell information, etc is retained in menu then accessibility would allow more fluid reference without clunking up the in-game screen. Someone else suggested being able to save mid-game, this is similar although and this is a fantasy tweak it might be a polished touch. Destructable buildings are great, that attention to detail shines. ...but aggressive destructable buildings are better. Imagine that near the enemy port there are enemy towers that can attack any buildings you place nearby. This would be good at establishing "territories" requiring users to invest resources and attention to defend towers and destroy enemies before expanding. A potential level design could start with aggressive towers surrounding the Lich that need to be defeated quickly to keep Lich alive. Aggressive enemy buildings could also add to an implied plot. You can see the range before you buy if you tap and hold on the icon in-game on the build menu. If you decide against just slide your finger off. This is different from a quick tap to purchase. I like this system although perhaps it needs better introduction. I achieved that quest so it is attainable. Not sure why it's not registering for you?
*non-countable comment* Yeah, better make Lich more dramatic... Lol... About manipulating. I play at 4x Speed mostly, sometimes 2x. If you think that it is necessary to manipulate, then it should be Hot-Seat multiplayer. I've never told it should be online. As you said, LD can sink in the towerdefence field. It needs something new and outbreaking. Such type of multiplayer is new idea, sure. About the game name. I don't agree with you.I think that Lich Defense is the best name, however "* Defense" names are very used. If you have better variant, give an example then
*non-countable comment* Nice idea, but usually last blow is taken by Lich himself, because last bosses are very hard, especially on Hard Lava
*non-countable comment* Completed it with third try I dunno why it haven't worked first two tries. I think you should build a first tower on second wave, worked for me.
Really wish I was able to install on my ipad2(seems only my iPhone UDID was accepted) Ive grown to not be able to deal with the onslaught of TD games on my 4s ....BUT I'm still tryin with this one ....being that I will say that I like elf defense a lot more but this game also has a lot of potential as well... I really think that the mid and later levels on all worlds need to be checked and tweaked ...they are either more extremely hard than the earlier waves or completely easier.. also the IAP prices keep annoying me...for a TD game they should be easier to obtain rather than buy...even for cosmetic items
I don't think it pops up every time but it does get annoying when it does. I definitely think it's unnecessary and hope it's removed from the final release.
Although I don't play a lot of tower defense games LD does seem generic is many ways but here are some unique aspects that stand out: the accessibility of magic effects (almost a KRPG hybrid), offensive abilities for the tower being defended, personality (although under-developed here the heroes vs undead theme is rich), and depth of customization. Level information indicating number of times played would be nice. LD has excellent statistic tracking and it would make me want to play more if I visualize it’s actually taken me 4 attempts and I still haven’t beaten this level. It would be especially cinematic if the Lich struck the final blow against an urber boss in slow motion. We agree the term “Defense” is generic. In part since the Lich is an entity with ability to attack, however limited, and cast spells LD is not strictly a defense game (for example, quests involving frequency of Lich kills). Off the top of my head here are some possible name alternatives: Lich’s Odyssey | Lich Onslaught | Revenge of the Lich | Lich’s Uprising | Lich Horde | Lich Fantasy | Lich Against the World | Lynch Lich | Night of the Lich (capitalizing on the dark backgrounds) | (just) The Lich… +1, IAP items would best be attainable by gameplay however difficult. The IAP prices seem high.
Yeah I just looked at the IAP and almost fell over at the prices. I'm sorry but that is way too much especially for a TD game which are abundant on the AppStore. There's nothing unusual about this game to set it apart from others hence the IAP will only hurt this game. Im afraid that the reviews will be mostly 1 stars just because of that, people are really harsh and critical of games with IAP let alone expensive IAP. My suggestion would be to charge $1.99 for the game and lower the IAP as much as possible. The more people who download the better compared to having a few people download and buy one expensive IAP. I feel like you could profit more by lowering the cost.
A lot of members on these boards even blindly buy a game regardless of price if it doesn't have IAP just to support that kind of development. Not saying that this should have no IAP at all since obviously the developers want it in there but there is something to say about that consumer trend...
Banking system pearls One uniques feature that has not been talked much is the Soul Stealer towers. It ties in well with the overall magical properties of the undead Lich. Essentially you are banking your MP and try to get interest from killing nearby units by stealing their soul. I mentioned before that I was stuck on Lava theme level 4 for quite a long time. It was not until I went back to complete more quests and upgrade a few towers and skills that I was finally able to break through. Probably just as important was that I was able to utilize the Soul Stealer tower more effectively. I did some analysis on the benefit of the tower. The bonus MP will depend on the unit destroyed. You can see your MP increasing twice. First for the kill and then the bonus. Upgrading your Soul Stealer will increase the bonus in a non-linear ratio. Boss units tend to yield much higher bonuses. For basic units, a level 1 Soul Stealer will give 5 extra MP, level 2 gives 15 MP (x3) and level 3 gives 30 MP (x6). My discovery was that using multiple Soul Stealers will multiply the bonus amount, so long as they are all within range of the unit killed. See how I have 7 Soul Catchers for one Boss enemy and for 2 evasion enemies (one was only giving up 4 souls). If the base is 1x MP bonus, the first example show 4x6+1x3+2x1 = 29x MP bonus for the kill! The best use of Soul Catcher is to place as many of them as possible close to where the killing occurs. You will have to plan your towers accordingly so the killings are not all over the map. I hope this will be helpful to expand the variety of gameplay for you. Suggestion I foresee expanding the banking system to include HP as well by adding a second Soul Stealer type of tower that can be summoned/unsummoned with HP and is used to add bonus HP. Any takers? Question Does anyone know if damage boost can be additive by putting 2 Obelisk towers next to a tower?
Very true I think a little IAP is fine as long as its reasonably priced. Outwitters is a good example of that one IAP can unlock all content and future features to me that was a deal I couldn't pass up. So IAP can be done smartly without overwhelming the consumer
Day 7 Post#1 @undeadcow Add "Lich the One Man Army" to your collection To be honest I like the "Revenge of the Lich" name. Just got in mind "The Avengers" film. Maybe "Lich the Avenger" would be cool. And the storyline goes from this name: Many-many years ago, the humanity declared a war on liches. The powerful wizards and brave warriors were standing against ancient creatures. Humanity won, only few liches survived. They had to hide for a long time to recover from injuries. And now, it's time to avenge the insignificant humans. LICH DEFENSE by JellyOasis {Lol forgot that I changed the name of the game} LICH the AVENGER by JellyOasis ------------- @m13 My tactics are using the Cater's robe(skill CD and cost decrease) and meditation skill to earn MP. No Soul Stealers, full damage strategy. I think that obelisk stacks too, but still not sure.
Yeah, that's one of my biggest dislikes towards the game. If I was looking to buy a new TD game and took a look at the IAP prices it would most certainly put me off buying it and I'd look elsewhere. IAP's are a touchy thing anyways since most people feel they cheapen a game. Asking too much for them will just hurt your game in the long run.
Day #7 Post #1 More Wild Ideas (1) Employment of the Camera - If the team decides to implement a Level Editor, it may be fun to make use of the Camera. Rather than having users create their own maps. They can use the Camera to snap a background (of literally anything) and use it as their background image. The possibilities are endless with this! The players can create all kinds of crazy-themed games. Think of this as "There's a Lich in every corner, defending itself against humanity" Some Thoughts (1) On the Theme - The above discussion has prompted some thoughts. Some testers have proposed a darker theme (iANiMeX's very nice intro clip for example) while some others (I infer) proposed a more lighthearted theme. For me, I agree with the latter and would strongly advocate a more lighthearted theme. The colours and overall artistic direction of Lich Defence goes along the anime-esque and cartoon-ish style! I think this style would draw a larger crowd of people (on the iTunes Store) rather than a more mature-themed "dark style". (a) Storyline - I don't think LD requires a strong storyline to keep the game going. If it is needed, I would encourage the team to stick with the current style. And like what undeadcow has mentioned, go for snippets of plot inserted before each Thematic set! The storyline can be presented in a comic/anime storyboard-style. This would definitely draw the young crowd on the App Store and may even be refreshing for the adults! I think that even the mature adults would like the lighthearted style! *When I play games on my iOS Device, I am looking for something light-hearted and easy to get into. I want to get away from the stresses/worries of life. So if Lich Defence gets all dark and gloomy, I may be discouraged to hop on. Not sure how many will agree with me, but the largest market on the iOS is the casual market. Most people want something simple, something fun (where they can jump in and out anything!) Most testers are hardcore gamers so what we "demand" here may not necessary be appropriate for the vast market that LD is trying to target.* (b) Expressions/Emoticons - Following on the light-hearted style which I have highlighted earlier, it would be great if the Lich/Enemies have cartoonish expressions whenever they are hit! The Lich especially would be a big focal point! So when the Lich gets hit, there should be a >< expression (or at least an emoticon that appears above him). This would really help create that cartoonish film! (c) Theme/Style the Tooltips - Currently, the tooltips appear as "random" dialogue boxes on the Loading Screen. Perhaps, the team can consider restyling the tooltips as part of an ancient book/tome that "details all the secrets to Lich Defence". This would help create a more integrated experience. Another game, the endless runner "Don't Run With a Plasma Sword" has done something like this. The developers put all the various tips into a "manual" that shows up on the loading screen! If Lich Defence can do this, it would really add to the overall polish of the game!
Day #7 Post #2 Just thought I should log some thoughts first before I get drowsy from my medication (1) Give the Gift of Game - A minor suggestions. Please do consider adding the option to the Shop/Main Menu. Players who enjoy Lich Defence may also want to the give the game to their friends. Making this as easy and accessible for them would help them make that "snap" decision even more! (The team can consider consider putting in the Shop -in an entirely non-intrusive manner- Jelly Oasis' older games like Elf Defense in the store) By pressing "Gift", players will be linked to the AppStore to finish the giving!
Day 7 #1 #1 Add an option to turn Game Center on or off. Some people don't use Game Center. But when you do not log in Game Center, every time you start the game or call back from background, there will be a log in menu, which is really annoying. #2 Add some ways to earn Jelly. Such as add Facebook or Twitter icon in Credits. When players tap the icons to follow or like your page, they can get some FREE Jelly. #3 Apple will release iOS 6 which featuring SNS features including Twitter, Facebook, China Sina Weibo. You can add these SNS carriers to the game. Spreading the words about your game is not a bad thing, isn't it? #4 Add more maps. It's better to have a "More Coming Soon" after Lava. If you can update with new maps regularly, players will surely love to get it! #5 Add a Time Attack mode. In this mode, Player must finish the game within the given time. The number of waves doesn't need to be a large amount. But the enemies should be stronger.
Actually I upgrade skills and by using skills plus attacking by Lich itself, it could pass. But the problem is quest cannot be completed even I finished the first wave without towers. Really annoying as I don't get a step into next stage without accomplishment of all quests. No one from official is answering this concern.
Day 5 post#1 Another one from stage 9, don't be square, quest 'summon less than 15 tower'. I only summon 14 towers, and I couldn't complete this quest. Furthermore, as stated in quest, there's no requirement by clearing this stage as a must. If I put one tower and put Lich died quickly, the quest also cannot be reached. Please check Quests are important. Completing quests are fun and important for some players like me. If it keeps problems coming in, it will ruin the fun of playing this game.
