We've been working on creating some kind of database to track number of downloads and make estimates based on the parameters we can easily access via iTunes. But we haven't had much success getting developers on board. Why do you think that's the case? Are people afraid to put down their download counts? Is this information not easily available? What's keeping you from sharing data and helping your fellow developer? In any case, maybe we can try something different. What if we find out how many downloads per day on average it takes to be a certain rank. We can accumulate these data points and perhaps graph some sort of curve that matches the data. Maybe this can give developers some hope of finding out what it takes to get to the mythical Top 100 or even Top 25.
