Yeah I agree you don't need to buy an expensive keyboard or mouse just for games truthfully my main motivation was I don't like wireless ones and they just never seem to be as instantly reliable as wired although they are certainly good enough to make do. Basically I decided that since I was going to change them anyway I'd go for the gaming option before today the only actual gaming mouse I'd owned was a Razer Habu and that mouse really did make a great difference to my gaming at the time mainly just because it was very reliable and being able to switch dpi instantly can really help with things like aiming. I would agree I went overkill with my purchases today but still they are really nice pieces of kit and I don't feel to bad about it.
I've yet to find a keyboard that I like more than this one. Cherry Blues AND small desktop footprint. I was never able to get in to those gaming keyboards because it's like having a skateboard on your desk.
Picked up Tomb Raider and Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth during the 7 Days sales. Anyone who's on Steam and uses Green Man Gaming, I highly recommend registering with Playfire. Essentially it links to your Steam account and you get GMG credit for earning achievements while playing games. I got Call of Cthulhu for free, because I had like $6 earned on my account.
How do they make money? Their web site is very mysterious when it comes to any kind of business plan. I assume they're some sort of analytics outfit?
GMG is brilliant, although they have made a move towards more regionally priced titles of late, you can still pick up some astronomical bargains.
I really want to buy a smaller mechanical keyboard to have in addition to my membrane. Been looking at this one except with mx browns, only deal breaker is that it doesn't seem to be backlit
Gamer's Gate just started it's Spring Sale with various discounts including daily and 12 hour deals. http://www.gamersgate.com Green Man Gaming isn't bad especially when you factor in the constant voucher codes they have available for additional percentages off; I also just picked up Call of Cthulhu and paid just $2 with 20% off code. Finished Hotline Miami and starting Aarklash Legacy; Aarklash is not a bad game - sort of an action RPG with pause system for issuing tactical commands in the heat of battle.
Just installed Skyrim played for about 30 min and got killed by a giant around five times in a row, game looks good though I think I'll enjoy it I did with morrowind.
I finally downloaded don't starve last night, super stoked on it, but I'm only up to like day 5. Love the art style but I have a weird feeling it's going to haunt my dreams lol
Those HDMI switches are really cheap. I had no idea they existed. I think I will get one and then buy a Blu-ray player and a console that can play Counterstrike. I only Airplayed my laptop to my AppleTV because the Airplay program was like 10 bucks or so and I just wanted to see what it would be like. My cunning plan was to Airplay laptop then get an XBox controller for my laptop to play Counterstrike on TV. Now that I know HDMI switches exist and are so cheap, I might spend my iPad Air 2 budget on a Counterstrike console instead. iPad'sRetinaiPadMiniHadBeenComandeeredByTheWife...
They've got tons of them- http://www.monoprice.com/Search/Index?keyword=HDMI+switch I've got one with a remote and my universal remote setup is smart enough to treat it like switching inputs on my TV. Works really well.
I definitely get all the Skyrim hype now I've been playing it pretty much all day and actually had to force myself to stop. It really does appear to be a real living world (at least that my first impressions) graphically it's very impressive to me as well some of the scenery is just breathtaking. I expected to be playing this one with the mouse and keyboard like I did with Morrowind but it automatically set itself up with the Xbox controller and I was that eager to get into the game I just went along with it, saying that the controller works better than I thought and I think I'll actually keep with it. Done buying games now for a while I think I've enough to last me for a time, really just posted again because I'm very impressed with skyrim.
Skyrim was good value, story itself was a bit weak but there's so much to do it hardly mattered. Sunk heaps of time into it. Look forward to Fallout 4
I think I'll be doing the same I've spent another day doing really nothing but playing it at the minute I'm completely addicted to it. Experiences of the day joined the companions, did some quests bought a horse which immediately ran into enemy area and got itself killed first time I used it, fought some vampires with a talking dog finally just managed to make myself shut it down when I got killed by two tigers. Could be the best sandbox game I've ever played, I've a feeling I'll load it up tomorrow and lose another day.
Humongous Games are on steam now!!! Yeah like Freddi Fish, Pajama Sam, Putt-Putt, etc. So it looks like over the course of the next few months they'll release the other ones, but there's already some out now. I mean, it's not that hard to run ScummVm, but still it's cool to see these back on the market. I can't wait to relive the nostalgia, as well as experiencing the games I never got to play (I'm looking at you Pajama Sam 3 and 4)
This isn't aimed towards these games in particular but the overall issue: it's so frustrating to see older games that have been out for years cluttering the New Release slots on the Steam home page. When an actual new release like Secrets of Raetikon finally gets out of Early Access and finds itself crammed into between Putt-Putt games on the bottom of page 2 after only a few hours, there's something wrong with that. It's just unfair for these indie devs who depend on that launch day exposure to make an impact and get much-needed sales.
Just wondering what's the consensus for the best driving game on PC, I already have a couple of them (Need for Speed Shift and Dirt3) but they don't quite scratch the Gran Turismo itch although both are good games. Still playing mostly Skyrim but I've picked up a few more like Shift and Silent Hunter 4 just can't help myself I guess.
