Tried posting this in the "Let's Golf! 3" thread, but all they wanna do over there is argue the pros & cons of the "freemium" pricing model. Anyway gang, before you flame me to death, I just want to precurse my statement w/ 2 remarks; 1) I have an iPad and iPhone, and love them both. App junkie. 2) I'm only saying the following to benefit the forum crew. Not trolling. I took Gamestop up on a sick promotion, and managed to secure a new Nintendo 3DS for $99 (w/ a trade in on my old DS Lite). I never would have dropped $250, or even $170. I couldn't resist that deal. Anyway, I bought (1) retail game (Ghost Recon), and (1) downloadable game. Let's Golf 3D. Now, from what I understand, this game is the same as LG2. Well, all I can say is that it looks awesome, plays w/ nary a hiccup and controls wayyyy better. More responsive. I guess what I'm saying is, if you can get a good deal on a 3DS, your reservations about the thing would vanish; it's a really beautiful piece of hardware. Had I dropped 300 for it (w/ a game & tax), I'd probably be feeling buyer's remorse now, but w/ only 2-3 games, the sub $140 investment leaves me feeling great about the decision. Let's Golf seemed pretty but muggy to me. On the 3DS, it's like a top shelf title. And I'm sure that, after a few growing pains, it'll become a hot system. The DS didn't take off @ launch, either.
I agree Hotshots Golf is a lot better than lets golf I have both of the hotshots golf games on PSP and theres no contest it's just far better in everyway it's actually still one of my favourites. Gameloft made a cheap clone with Lets Golf to try and cash in but apart from static screenshots the difference is night and day in everything like animation, sounds, gameplay, depth. No argument from me hotshots/everybodys golf is great. Still not sold on the 3DS though I'm waiting for Vita.
Sorry. Corrected my errors above. I never meant to mention HotShots at all. I'm strictly referring to "Let's Golf". It's available on the 3DS, and it's amazing. Also, I'm saying that I wasn't sold on the 3DS either, but having scored it for $99, I can say that it's worth the $169 that it now costs. It's beautiful.
I think the 3DS will have a lot more success at the lower price. I still think lets golf is just a quick ripoff of hotshots but I don't have any problem believing Nintendo would have made them improve it for 3DS.
It's not a question of Nintendo forcing a quality job. It's that testing a game on a dedicated console (NDS) makes it easy to ensure optimum performance. When you make a game for iOS, you're faced with multiple devices, each w/ different specs.
You know I may go back on what I said earlier in the thread about not wanting a 3DS I was just watching a clip of SFIV on it and it does look pretty good. With the new price drop I'm actually a little tempted. I still want the Vita a lot more but I know that's going to be a while.
