Not being a developer myself, can someone please explain a bit more about this "staged" download? From the previous posts in the thread, I read that there is some 100MB initial download limit which is the supposed reason for this staged downloading. But I purchased many games (like Riven) before which download more than 1GB right from the start without any issue. I presume that all of the levels have been made already, so this is not because the later levels are still being fine tuned. For example, Rayman Jungle Run required you to "download" additional data for the later levels that were initially unavailable. But this appears to be not the case here.
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the staged download is so the initial download size fits under the usual limit for people on 3 & 4G data plans. Then when a person is at home or otherwise connected to wireless, the rest of the data is downloaded because wi-fi doesn't have such strict limits.
Leo´s Fortune is a benchmark for iOS. Every single aspect of the game is perfectly polished to give you a touching experience that is only matched by games like Limbo, Monument Valley, Swords & Sworcery or Bastion for example, games where attention to detail and craftsmanship are in service of a flawless gameplay full on experience, with no blank filling whatsoever. Leaves the bar very high for the platformer genre on iOS, and when you finish it -3 starring every level is going to be so tough but fun-, you are left wanting a lot more, and this, my friends are the signs of a one of a kind game, one that sticks into the gamers heart and dont let go. One of the contenders of the year and my weekly Game of the Week.
You are absolutely right! It's not possible to download the game without a wifi connection if it's over 100MB. We limited the initial download size to 100MB so that it is possible to play the first couple of levels while the game downloads the rest of the levels in the background. After you've downloaded the initial 100MB you don't need a wifi connection to download the remaining 170MB if you check the "Download using cellular data" option when on 3G/4G. I feel that it's a good system because it allows you to jump into the game as soon as possible, without waiting for the entire download to finish. Once the background download is finished, the game does not require an internet connection at all.
Not a problem one bit as i'm playing it on an iphone 4s. An iphone 4s is basically an ipod touch 5th gen which seems to run everything. Buy buy buy
Picked this up today, my daughter gets called Leo as a pet name so I couldn't resist, The staged download things is a really really great idea, I have missed out on so many games due to using 3G almost exclusively in my tablet and then forgetting to dload on my PC, the game itself seems beautiful and very highly polished.
I've played through and three starred the first few levels, and I agree this game is as awesome as everyone here is saying. My only request for the dev so far is, for impatient people like me, please add a 1 touch way to restart a level. Currently I have to do 3 touches: hit pause, then Restart, and then confirm. When going for the second and third stars I do a lot of restarting, so doing those same 3 taps repeatedly gets old. Thanks for the wonderful game.
The game's been out for almost a week now and it seems like no one has managed to complete hardcore mode yet. The best attempt so far is 10/20 levels. Any takers?
I just ran into a bug while playing level 7. Leo suddenly disappeared, and the game froze. The music was still playing, but the game was otherwise just stuck showing the last scene and didn't respond to inputs. I had to force quit the game and restart it. I have already played through this level successfully before. I don't think it's specific to this level since I saw someone else posted about a similar problem while playing level 6. I'm on an iPad 4 with iOS 7.1.
We heard about this where someone said that if they were in the water at the end of the level, and then floated up to the surface, and then didn't touch the controls for a few seconds it would happen. We're currently looking into that. Do you remember where it happened exactly? Can you replicate it?
I just remember it was in the section with the mines. I have played through that level several more times since it happened without it crashing, so I can't reproduce it.
We've been able to replicate this on our side and managed to fix the bug. An update will be available shortly. Thanks for letting us know!
