No, I can read is all...

    29-Jun 22:00 >> SCEE - Sony Entertainment Cease & Desist
as much as we would love to have this title reach everyone, we have unfortunately been contacted and instructed by Sony's intellectual property and legal department to remove our Lemmings conversion from our websites and hosting websites.

SCEE - Sony Entertainment Cease & Desist Letter
while are did this as a tribute to the game - we can only hope that Sony actually does a conversion for platforms like iPhone and Palm Pre in the near future. we will open communication with Sony to explore the rights for these platforms!

That cease and desist letter looks fake as hell :D

In unrelated news, they have some other games available on iPhone.

    Damn you Sony!

  5. Crap. So close. :p Well, maybe Aaron can open a successful dialog with SCEE to get a proper license of the game and finally release it. Probably won't be free, but I'd pay for it...

Edit: Nevermind, the developer is the one who wrote that. Lol, pooooor guy :(

Let's all email Sony discussing how extremely disappointed we are at them!

unfortunately - Lemmings for iphone is on hold.

we received a letter from SCEE (Sony Entertainment) which has forced us to remove the submission from the application store at this point in time. it is true, we had no issues with the palm os version for over 10 years, but we got a lot of attention lately.

we now know who has the rights, so we will attempt to talk with SCEE (Sony Entertainment) and see if we can come to an arrangement for the distribution of Lemmings on iphone and web os - but of course this means it probably wont be free because there will be licensing costs involved.

    we will keep you posted!

that is the plan! now we know who has the rights :) it would have been nice as a freebie tho, good news is i am playing Lemmings right now on my vacation :) bad news is that it may never get in other peoples hands - there are other versions on the app store, but they are not based on what we wrote - this was a brand new submission, which we had to 'developer reject' in the mean time.

maybe it is time for a petition!

maybe it will also give us time to do an android port *g*

while this may seem like one step backward, it is two steps forward, now we can have an open discussion with SCEE about the licensing rights and bring it to the platform with their support and make it a better game! 36 hours was for porting the palm os version over, there are a number of improvements we could make to the engine and make it a much better game.

for now, the code will sit on my HDD at home and wait to see what SCEE responds to my letter - we have complied with their requests immediately, so the application will not be coming in the next few days unfortunately, if it does get out - it will be from the review team within Apple.

    Good luck with SCEE!

Ah well, it was nice while it lasted :D. At least you only lost 36 hours of porting existing code that wasn't being used for much currently; I know of people who have sunk months of development time into apps only to have them pulled!

  14. I'm not sure how well Sony would respond to a petition, but I do hope they'll realize they've got a big market their IP could be gracing, and thus could make some coin off the licensing, and that they've already got someone who's done a pixel-perfect port of the original Lemmings done, and thus they wouldn't have to lift a finger. And if they do realize this, let's hope they don't demand a king's ransom in licensing fees for it.

As much as i do want to see a Lemmings port on the iPhone (i really do, as i am a sucker for Retro), the reaction you received from Sony was to be expected. Don´t get me wrong, while anticipating your effort, to me it was pretty obvious you´ll trigger a legal hellstorm due to heavy media exposure. Every IP Owner will defend his rights, you don´t want your own game to be ripped off, now do you? Lemmings is a pretty precious and well known IP after all.

I don´t think a Petition will do any good, although i´d gladly sign it. Let´s see if you are able to make any progress establishing a deal with Sony, keep us updated on this. I´m not getting my hopes up, but you never know. :)

I'm very sorry for mobile1up and this project. But, to be honest, this was some kind of foreseeable...

Or release it in Cydia. Or would that be impossible too? Never played Lemmings (in 8bit), damned I love 8/16/32 bit games too.

unfortunately, posting it on Cydia would mean that they are illegally distributing Lemmings, as well as infringing on copyright. Just because they can't legally post it on the app store doesn't mean that they can legally post it on Cydia.

  20. Or anywhere, to anyone. Besides, if he did anything other than remove every speck of the game from public consumption, Aaron's chances of striking a deal with Sony would basically go straight down the bog. So, the only hope now is that Sony agrees to a licensing deal.
