I think sword is better presented here, especially there are magic swords but not axe nor mace (correct me if I am wrong) Also I like traits/skills give better base attribute (strength/vitality) rather than derived ones (health/evasion) BTW, magic casting is unnecessarily hard to perform in real time here (PC/MAC/iOS), than say, EoB, but they give better damage to compensate. Don't mind me, just random thoughts.
Ah ok so we didn't miss out on something the PC players got. But it is a strange choice. I wonder if they think the characters would be overpowered then? I noticed in this game that everything is in the same place every time -- items, enemies, etc. So there's no way to grind or loot better items. I can't recall any other dungeon crawlers like that (not the ones I played, at least). So maybe they purposely limit each character to one weapon at a time to keep the experience as they intended, not allow anyone to make it easier than it should be? But I guess this means I need to decide what I'm doing with my rogue -- I already invested a few points in Assassination, thinking that the only reason the game didn't switch to his dagger when he ran out of throwing knives is because he can't reach (yet) from the back. I only have three throwing knives and no bow. Yet I found two daggers. So I guess pike/spear it is for now? :/
Well, the nice thing about thrown and missle weapons is that they ALWAYS hit (unlike melee weapons). That's why I continue to use them. I've actually got two rogues (and a fighter and a mage). My front line rogue is going to be a hand combat master (I've read that hand combat gets VERY powerful in the later parts of the game), and my other rogue stays in the back row with his thrown/missle weapons.
This is actually my first and only team with Grimrock, and I couldn't be happier. I've definitely started over a million times in other dungeon crawlers (especially EoB), but I think I did good with my first party so far.
I am tempted to start over again with this new knowledge. At least the game seems to have unlimited save slots?
Sigh these guys keep creaming me. Really not sure how to take on 2-3 at once. I'd come back later, but I don't think that's even an option? Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel Edit: Oooohhh Figured out how to get through the other locked gate, so doing that first. Btw, my torches keep dying so I pick up new ones. What happens when I run out of light? I'm having nightmares now of running out of light in Forgotten Memories and having to quit the game. :/ I tried the light spell as someone suggested (I have 4 in Spellcraft) but the game said he doesn't meet the requirements for that spell. Edit: Yay! I was able to keep the third guard out until I beat the first two. Now they're all dead. Now I just need to figure out where that second key is for the locked gate. According to my map, I've scoured every possible inch.
Can someone just confirm for me that the teleport right here doesn't go anywhere? (I pushed the button on the wall behind me and it didn't seem to do anything.) I'm pretty stuck right now and want to make sure it's supposed to work like this. Spoiler Argh...can't put spoilers around an image?
I don't remember about that teleport, about 6 hours ago from my current position. Sorry :-/ But I can tell you that you need 5 Spellcraft for Light. The runes are Spoiler middle top to middle.
Thanks for the help with Light. I guess I can use it once I level up again. Blah I don't want to read a walkthrough for this. But my only options seem to be a locked gate with two keyholes (I used a key on one) and this teleporter that doesn't take me anywhere.
Oh, I just remembered! Spoiler There's a hidden switch in that very room to disable the portal, but it disables for a very short period.
Ok, that helped immensely, thanks! Spoiler I had pressed it a million times, but by the time I turned around, the portal was back. Knowing its temporary, I ran through it backwards and it worked!
Omg this game is consuming my life. When I'm not playing, I'm thinking of playing. This is why I need it on my iPhone.
I found a bug that I'm not sure has been reported. I was recording when it happened, so I'll post the video once it's uploaded. But basically, I found my first bow and arrows. I was about to equip the arrows in my right hand and instead dragged the three arrows into their own sub-window. Before I let got of them, it seemed like it was going to give me six, then they just vanished. :/ I think I saved shortly before that, so I can at least get them back. But seems like a nasty bug.
That's crazy! Mine didn't do that when I equiped them, so I'll count myself lucky. Now, if someone could only figure out how to cast Frost Arrow!! I tried, and documented every rune combination I could come up with, and nothing ever worked. From what I saw online, you have to have the arrows you want to enchant in the other hand, but that's it. If it said that I didn't have the means to cast the spell yet, I just put "Spell??" next to it since it's obviously going to eventually be a spell once/if I get the necessary amout of skill points. Here's my efforts: Spells that Don't work for Frost Arrow Rune Grid 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 All single runes All 3 down All 3 up Middle and top 3 left Middle and top 3 right 1st two from left (all 3 rows) 1st two from right (all 3 rows) 1 Spell?? 3 Spell?? 7 Spell?? 369 Spell?? 14789 12369 36987 Spell?? 98741 78963 Spell?? 1258 1478 7852 3258 8963 14 25 light 58 darkness 36 74 96 254 256 854 856 23652 Spell?? 12541 Spell?? 45874 Spell?? 56985 Spell?? 123698741 2589632 2587412 1236541 4569874 1254 1452 4125 2563 5236 2365 3256 5896 8569 6589 8965 4785 7458 4587 5478 5896 8569 6589 8965 214 254 125 541 236 256 563 632 458 478 785 547 856 698 589 569 21478 23698 41236 47896 14563 Spell?? 74569 Spell??
Here's my video with the weird bug. You can see it near the end. Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel
Oh, that's definitely a bug. You basically put the stack into the stack... I guess the devs never expected that to happen lol.
I was excited for like half a second when I thought the bug was gonna work in my favor -- then it just poofed! I had a save from a couple minutes earlier (I probably have like 80 save slots by now) so at least I didn't permanently lose them. Speaking of which, are they like throwing knives in that they can be recovered? I see the bombs are single-use only and I'm starting to think my rogue is better off just going full-on dagger.
All arrows can be recovered. Your rogue will be better spec'ed as Missile unless you're interested in a dagger rogue. Thrown is worthless.
