Just a heads up. You don't need to wait for the save crystal. You are able to save anytime you want from the options menu. As for a diverse party build, just google "best Grimrock party build" and you'll find plenty to base your team on. In games like these, the race type plays a large roll in how well they fair in the class you give then, so a proper setup makes for a stronger party. Hope this helps!
Well, two of my party were dead, so I needed it to revive them. I did look at the description for each race, and it seems human can be anything, while the other three are good at specific roles. So I chose human & Minotaur fighters, lizard rogue and insect mage. Now just figuring out which traits to give them.
Oh, I totally agree! I grew up playing Eye of the Beholder, and Wizardry. I would start over a million times until I found a party that worked best for me. It just sounded like he needed a little help deciding on a proper team build.
Agreed. This brings me back to the days of Might & Magic 6+. I think I was just eager to play the game, so I didn't want to waste time on character creation. But now that I've played a bit and see what I'm in for, I rather have a custom-made party.
I have played most of these games since dungeon master, making and playing different parties is a big part of the experience
Creating your party is quick painless experience. The pain comes later haha well worth making your own party with their own names you choose
Ugh. So I stupidly gave my rogue the fist fighter trait, thinking when he runs out of throwing knives, he could at least punch. But he's likely always going to be in the back row, so he can't even hit with his fist. Is there any way to change that trait once I started the game? Or at least restart the game with this same party (and the option to change something)? I don't want to have to start the party creation from scratch again.
No you can't change the trait once you start unfortunately. I take a snap shot of each party member I make so its easy to copy their stats/traits back if I want or need too A useful tip I think?
Yeah, starting from scratch again lol. Hopefully this time I won't screw it up! Any advice on choosing an element for my mage?
Also, if you raise his assassination skill high enough, he can attack from the back row with melee weapons.
I gave him that skill, missile weapons and throwing weapons. Are the last two redundant? Like, will I end up using only one of them eventually?
I've read that Ice (for freezing) and Air (for lightening) are two of the best. Although, I'm sure you can't go too wrong with fire. However, I know there are creatures later in the game that are immune to fire.
From what I've read about the two, there are more thrown weapons in the beginning, and better (more prevalent) missile weapons later in the game. So it really comes down to what you want and when you want it. I decided to go with missile weapons for my rogue.
Ooohh tough choice. I assume he can use a dagger and a missile weapon at the same time? Would that be a better choice? (Btw, anyone else get a Game of Thrones vibe from the character creation music? )
Well, being that missile weapons need both hands to operate (i.e. bow and arrow), a dagger wouldn't be able to also be equipped. However, when you run out of arrows, you could always equip their dagger for an assassination attack! And, yeah, the music is EPIC!
Ahhhh!!! Too hard to decide! But I guess if I'm gonna give him Assassination, it makes sense to also give him the dagger skill?
Looks like a pretty solid build! The one thing I did was I gave every party member the "skilled" trait. Getting 4 additional skill points right off the bat was well worth it if you ask me.
