LEGEND OF FAT NINJA - COMING SOON by Zephyr Games Inc. Over the past few months a number of independant NYC studios have been working on creating a new action/arcade game that we've really been hoping gamers will enjoy. Called Legend of Fat Ninja, we are intending to launch this game simultaneously for the iPhone/iPad, and the Amazon Kindle marketplace. ABOUT FAT NINJA Located near the peak of Mt. Fuji, the famed Iron Skillet Academy has existed for centuries, working to mold the best chefs of the age. Combining the unique ninja style of combat with the culinary skills of past masters, the academy is incredibly exclusive some years having not a single graduate! This year is different however, not one but two ninja chefs have graduated! Kureijita, aka The Fat Ninja, and his sidekick Kaminoha! They have left the Iron Skillet and have now endeavored to open their own famed noodle shop. But in order to be the very best, they will have to find legendary ingredients that other chefs across the land use. In order to do this, they will travel to the homeland of each of these famed chefs and defeat them and their servants, all while serving up the highest quality noodles to the locals! Help Fat Ninja and his Sous Chef liberate prized ingredients from enemy chefs and their ninja minions! Legend of Fat Ninja features hours of single player gameplay for iOS and Android. It’s a fast-paced arcade game and an absolute blast to play. We hope you will join Team Fat Ninja and help us make this adventure into culinary "history" reality! GAMEPLAY The Legend of Fat Ninja combines the skill based gameplay of physics games such as Angry Birds, with the arcade scoring and chaining mechanics of Pinball and point based arcade games. Every time you launch Fat Ninja into a level, you are able to direct his movements by simply tapping in the direction for him to attack. With every object you hit you build up power that allows you to continue. Attempt to build up the highest score possible while keeping enemy ninjas from reaching your noodle stand, and then defeat the resident chef to liberate the famous ingredient he has been hording! After launch, we plan to continue expanding the Fat Ninja with additional levels, moves, powerups, protagonists, and additional challenge/puzzle level packs that expand on the gameplay to provide new and never-before seen interactive gameplay! Below are just a few screenshots from our current Alpha build which should give you a great idea of our art direction, and how far along Legend of Fat Ninja is! FAT NINJA MEDIA Here is a video of Fat Ninja's gameplay at its current Alpha state: Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel Here are some shots of the game in action! And here is artwork and shots of various levels in the game! We hope you like what you see, and would love to answer any questions you might have about Fat Ninja. We intend to launch in August or September of this year, depending on the results of our Kickstarter, and would love to hear from you!
Kickstarter! We have also launched today a Kickstarter for those who would like to help us make Fat Ninja a reality, and give it some extra levels and characters at launch, as well as help us get to having it on the Amazon Kindle right off the bat. You can find our kickstarter here: Legend of Fat Ninja Kickstarter As well as follow Legend of Fat Ninja on Facebook here: Legend of Fat Ninja on Facebook
Update #1 So we're going to do our best to do an update every other day so everyone gets a feel for how work is coming along during the next month. Looking forward to sharing some really great things! Today the update is about Level 2, Tokyo Harbor! Where Scallywag Yojimboyo has made landfall in his restaurant boat right in the city docks. The Fat Ninja will have to steal from him The Tuna of the Seven Seas, and do it while facing even stronger masked ninjas (who can take an additional hit, unlike their obviously inferior unmasked brethren) We really think this is going to be a fun level, you'll notice how the path for ninjas leaving the restaurant, which is situated on the top right of the boat, gives them a winding path and the user time to react and plan to head them off. It will be important to catch them while you can though, once they steal any food from the Fat Ninja's cart, these ninjas will be much speedier then normal in running back to Yojimboyo's restaurant! We will likely remove a little more of the vertical clutter and size down the ship a bit for memory usage purposes. But we're pretty happy with the overall design of the level. Enjoy!
Thank you very much Arta! It's our first attempt at using Kickstarter, so we're not really sure how it'll go, but we figure we have a solid game to go with and at least people will know we've already got it working and just need the money to help polish it up and make sure it is as good as it can be to start.
Love the sumi-e-inspired outlining of the visuals. And the gameplay sounds pretty fun. At first I thought it would merely be one of those where you fling the dude once and rely on luck the rest of the way for scoring. This sounds more interactive and enjoyable. Look forward to checking it out.
Hi GeekDad! Yes we definitely wanted this to have more of an arcade/points inspired feel to it. Less about puzzles/luck, and more about keeping yourself going and getting the most points. While each level has a goal, and you must keep enemy ninjas from stealing your food (as you lose a life if they do) if you don't want to kill the boss and end the level as soon as possible that is your choice, and you can attempt to continue farming up the level to keep building a massive score. The problem being of course is that over time the ninjas and enemy chef don't respawn, and many objects in the levels (boxes, poles, etc.) don't come back after you hit them once, making it more likely for you to hit the ground and lose a life.
Artwork Update Hi guys! Just giving you an update on some new artwork so you can check it out, these are all to be found in level 2, the Tokyo Docks where you have to liberate yet another ingredient from Scallywag Yojimboyo. Best, The Fat Ninja Team
Raffles! If you've been enjoying the artwork and style of Legend of Fat Ninja, and we know you have been, then you'll love the weekly raffles we going to be doing for our kickstarter pledges starting tomorrow! Each week, we are going to raffle off art cards hand drawn and inked by Wes Gunn, the artist behind Legend of Fat Ninja. These 2.5x3.5 art cards will look fantastic on your desk, wall, or just as a present to the gamer in your family! If you've pledged anything at all, you are in the running for an art card every few days until the Kickstarter finishes, so get in early with your pledge for the most chances possible at a free art card. We will be giving out these art cards even if the Kickstarter doesn't get off the ground, so at the very least you're going to get a kick butt piece of unique artwork from a great comic and game artist! As we are raffling these away, we're also kicking up the Art Cards that are given to our higher end pledges up to 5.5x5.5 cards. Definitely suitable for framing! I've attached two samples, and more pictures of them can be found under updates on our Kickstarter. Please let us know your thoughts! The Legend of Fat Ninja Kickstarter
iPhone Cases, Screenshots, and More Hey all! So I have a few screenshots of new material, we've settled on a format and design for our achievements screen and credits. Also we've designed our iPhone cases for Kickstarter pledges. And more artwork is coming soon from level 2 and 3, as well as the level select screen/menu for which we're using a cool little bento box/japanese restaurant motif on. Hope you're all enjoying, please do let us know your thoughts here! Best, The Legend of Fat Ninja Team
instabuy the graphics are really good and well drawn. the theme is a lot better than angry birds as well. for sure picking this up, hope you guys get a lot of success.
Thank you iTouch! We're definitely hoping it will be a success as well. Right now our Kickstarter attempt is sitting at around 13% funded, so we're hoping a few more people start talking about the game and pledging to support it. But either way, we're really proud of how the art and gameplay is coming out and will be sharing more as we have more to show!
Hello Everyone! Welcome to the week! We know Monday's are a bit painful, so we thought we'd share some great new artwork done by Wes that shows level 3 being designed! It's almost complete now, and we split up the pictures so you could see all of the stages the level has gone through in design! Have a wonderful day, and be sure to let your friends know about this project! Just 16 days left to go, and we're still working hard to get to 100% funded! Best, The Fat Ninja Team
New Stuff and videos! So we've been working away at it, levels 1-3 are now complete and the menus have really been coming together. We also, in a fit of curiosity, decided to check out how well the game ports to the Kindle Fire as just a straight up port! a few minor slowdown issues (audio syncing mostly) but you can check it out on our facebook page! I tried embedding it here but the video wouldn't go for it. It looks like we'll be having the game out on the Kindle Fire platform nice and soon, either along with the game (if the kickstarter is a success.. 9 days left and we DEFINITELY need more support!) or shortly after. If you like what you've seen so far, please do consider helping us out! You can find our kickstarter here: Legend of Fat Ninja Kickstarter
Three Days Left Only 3 days left for our project to get funded via Kickstarter. We're actually at 70%! Definitely doable if a few more folks come on board to support it. Meanwhile, we've got all of the artwork from the level 3 work in progress done! Tomorrow we will post the start of level 4, which is already looking great.
How, the game looks awesome. I hope your Kickstarter project reaches its goal and if it doesn't, that it's only by a few. I can't wait to actually play this game. I still don't fully understand the gameplay but I get the story and goal of the game. This is actually the first time I see an upcoming games forum where the developer actively provides updates on the progress of the game and that's awesome. Keep up the good work.
Level 4 Work in Progress Thank you iSky! It's great to hear people are enjoying seeing the updates. Next we have some artwork of level 4 being put together. This is the first batch, we'll do another in a few days once the art is complete. The level is called "Shangri-La" which we'll spice up a bit, and has you fighting the Spirit Fox chef Kitsune.
Not sure what you mean by new locations, but we have 5 planned levels already, with at least 1 more if our kickstarter is funded and most likely another 1 or two. So between 5 and 8 at launch. Each will have its own leaderboard and there will be a lifetime points leaderboard as well. We're also going to do achievements, which will be both local to the device and use game center or the android/kindle equiv. Did I missunderstand your post?
