Like one a couple post above noted, Robot Wants Kitty has a petty good level editor, and an easy one. I really like the ease to test your level right away. But something RwK isnt very good at is that they have no explanation at all, so please add some descriptions and text to have a little story mode.
For level sharing look into the excellent puzzle game called Robozzle. It has an iPhone version + a web version at Robozzle.com. I'm sure you'd love it as well. What they do is that a user can give each level 2 scores: a thumbs up/down if you enjoyed the level + a rating from 1-5 on how difficult you think it was. You can also submit a comment about it and they rank how many times a level was played. Using this system it's very easy to find a fun level with a difficulty that suits you. Give Robozzle a try - it's the dream puzzler for every developer! (I'm not in any way associated with it, just a fan)
Reminds me of the Little Big Planet ranking system which works well. Gives you an idea of which ones you should play and which ones weren't thought out or made well enough.
I agree with that. Also, an extra thought: since you're going to keep track of how many times a level has been played, you could actually rank 3-stars, 2 stars, 1-star and zero dinamically, "a la" Autolog in NFS Hot Pursuit. For instance, 3-stars could be anything that makes it into the top 10% of finishing times for the level when getting the brifcase as well; 2-stars for the top 30%-10%, 1-star to the top 50%-30% range, and anything lower than that would be zero stars. You could also inform the players when your score had been "demoted", to push you to replay the levels However, while I have to say that personally I'm not sure if I have the drive to play individual levels done by users, I'll actually be interested in playing "level packs", if I can get them at once - say, for instance, downloading the top 20 best-rated levels, or the top-20 fastest levels, or the top-20 levels with most user deaths (I'm just making it up here)... But downloading levels one by one might seem like a chore. One question, though: any news on the jungle update? Regards, and keep up the great work. Paulo Tavares
An in-game level editor for this would be absolutely fantastic!!! To be honest, you could easily market this as an IAP (editor + share function), as it would add tonnes of content to an already fantastic game. The two tiered system would be good too - one rating for the quality of the design (ie 1-5), and another for how hard the level was (ie A-B). This could then prefix each level name, so you could sort the levels by best quality levels, or search for those that were easier to finish. There's a tendancy for these kind of things to develop into a "My level is tougher than yours". This is something you'd have to be wary of as many people will be trying to out-do each other in terms of difficulty which may spoil the enjoyment for some - balancing a level is everything, as I'm sure you guys know
Great feedback everyone! This is helping us devise what our level editor with sharing option is going to include. Keep the ideas coming so we can continue to put a plan in place. Agreed. We have some plans to do something similar to this. Jungle update is just going through some final optimizing/testing before being submitted. Should be submitting sometime later this week!
lol Sadly, I haven't been playing this game much recently. I've done everything that there (currently) is to do. I still play every now and then because the game is sheer awesome, but not very often. But for your question, how 'bout I just give you all of my stats Here we go: Player Deaths---778 (1 off of 777 ) Enemies Defeated---333 Briefcases Collected/Perfect Levels---102/102 Average Level Time---0:09 Hope this helps!
Enemies killed = 523 But that's a cool achievement! Really excited about the updates for this game! Any way I can take back what I've said about this game in the past? Since then, I've been playing this game more and more... And am REALLY trying to beat the Impossible Stages... Should take me quite a while! Some of them do really seem quite... Impossible! Thank you for creating one of the better platformers I've played... The level editor will totally push it over the top, and put it in my top 10 platformers on ANY n ALL consoles!
Player Deaths: 1033 (tons due to still being stuck on lev 3 of impossible mission) Enemies Defeated: 200 Briefcases Collected: 75/102 Perfect Levels: 74/102 Average Level Time: 0:14 But I am making progress through the 3rd level of impossible mission.. I can most of the time make it to the lasers part. lol..
Marathon mode? First, I definitely love this game. I am impressed that such twitch-based platforming has been pulled off on the iPhone. Suggestion - would you consider putting in a marathon mode? I'm imagining having to do 20 straight levels with a set number of lives (maybe briefcases can be 1-ups). I think this would be interesting since it may be 1 thing to do a 10-second level perfectly, but another to try and do 20 levels at the top of your game. This might also give leaderboards a little more relevance, since it is easy enough to nail the fastest possible time after a few tries. Thanks, and keep up the good work, Ravenous!
Of course you can take it back. Thank you! We're glad you like the game. Thanks! We're proud that we seem to have been able to pull of the twitch game as well. We're humbled by all the positive feedback we recieve!
Hey everyone, we're giving away a Ravenous Games t-shirt. Check the details over in the promo contest thread we started here. http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=89256 Good luck!
