You can still download apps on an earlier version of iTunes and then put them on your device. I have put my entire library, apps and music, onto a portable drive. I have moved the apps from my main iTunes library and placed in another folder. On my surface pro, running the latest version, I can access all my music, it's not even aware that the apps have been moved. On an older laptop, running the previous iTunes, I have set up a new library, set it to not move all files etc into iTunes. I think that's only useful with the music. I then moved my mobileapplications folder into my new iTunes library in the media folder. Ran iTunes , added the folder as per method. All my apps are now in my second iTunes library, accessible and transferable to an older iPad I have. So, one computer has my music library, the older one has my app library, both of which are on the same portable hard drive and bobs your uncle, works fine but don't tell apple#. There must be millions of older iPads out there worldwide, so many people will be running old versions for years yet. Some People on this forum are still using ipad2's, I still have one and an iPad 1. With a portable drive it's important to give it a permanent drive letter, one that is never used by anything else. I use 'S' for Seagate, and set it on both computers. Even if you have updated iTunes, you can still download an older version from apple and many other places. I finished updating my app library today, got BG11 and Icewind Dale that way, plus I unhid all my old apps and now have every app I purchased that hasn't been removed, including all my old 32 bit stuff. I doubt I'll use many of them but there are some old gems that I love, so it was a worthwhile exercise for me anyway.

^eugene, cool story, but what you said is nothing but a awkward, unsustainable compromise, which does nothing for the future going forward from now (how do you do this for the next generation of apps to be released), and as it stands right now, Apple has certainly not done the right thing by anyone. It's not cool what they've done. Not to mention, Their iPhone X is a lame excuse for the name of technology development (c'mon, would jobsy really have settled for some freakin ferret ears screen real estate they claim makes the iPhone X have 5.8" of display. It's freaking cheating to claim 5.8"). And now out of no warning or consultation whatsoever, we've got an iTunes that banishes the App Store and .ipa storage control many, many of us enjoyed. Kick in the pants for their own users. Seriously, this lame iPhone X and iTunes debacle is a kick in the pants for their faithful. What they're chasing is the 'freemium lite' crowd, that is let's face it, probably the lets not say faithful as such, but ever-paying repeat customers. Anyone that likes being in control in some way of their content just got kicked in the pants.

Sooner or later as Apple will have it, those devices and versions of iTunes you speak of will become unsupported (if not already) and you and everyone else will be forced to sit down at the dinner table and eat your meatloaf! Until such day as android gets their crap together, or someone makes a new model/platform that just works the way it should and as is suitable for all.

I'm getting on in years so I won't worry too much about the 64 bit apocalypse. Besides, by then I'll have dementia so I can play the same old game over and over and think it's the best new game I've ever played###

I can use iMazing to side load any apps by browsing to the folder mobile applications. What I'll miss is the ability to see which games, or apps, have been updated that I, for example, took off to wait for an update. The onboard App Store only shows updates for apps you have on your device.

That's not the case, you can choose to look at your purchases on iOS 11 by tapping your profile picture in the store. This will show even 32 bit apps, even though you can't download them. That's how I found that Baldur's Gate 2 EE and IWD were updated early last week. I keep checking for BG1 EE but not there yet. Gonna check out iMazing, hope it still works on iOS 11.

Still a youngster then. Banging your head against a wall two or three times a day may bring on early onset. I've been doing that with apple for years##

    Well, I updated.

I, for one, am ecstatic iTunes has nothing to do with apps anymore. :)

Why? Because for some ****ing reason I can't sign in with my Apple ID on iTunes 12.7. I've tried literally everything mentioned online. Given that other than using iTunes to download massive apps when I was out of the house, I only use it to transfer music to my phone. Had we still had app related-functionality, I would have been devastated. At least I can still drag music to my phone.

I don't understand why EVERYBODY isn't completely upset by all this. I'm basically in shock and appalled Apple think they can take away the only method of safeguarding purchases. Still hope it was a mistake and that they'll rectify shortly. Never do I ever plan on upgrading iTunes or my iOS past 10. Ever. For me this changes everything.

Not sure if you approve of the new iTunes update or not, my sarcasm detector doesn't seem to be working atm.

Wouldn't it be a nightmare for you to download all the huge filed P&C's that you're fond of or even something like Republiqüe to your iPhone every time you want to play?

And then inevitably when a favourite is removed from the store it's completely gone for good? Just the thought of that breaks my heart.

yep, I didn't (and don't) plan to upgrade to iOS11 so I keep access to all my old apps. I didn't expect to lose access via iTunes though. Completely took me by surprise!

Last one from me on this. You can still get your old Apps back on your phone via Finder - click Copy on the the .ipa file within your iTunes media folder, plug your phone into LadyDiTunes and then paste onto the phone.
Check out the Freeways (game of the year) thread and massive thanks to CraigG (legend in my house now).

This works on windows also, just by using explorer. Not so bad, as long as you know the IPA name which is usually something obvious.

Like I said early. These methods are great for old apps. But if we all ever get forced to upgrade iTunes, and it's only a matter of time, it seems actually having an IPA is being phased out by Apple. Not cool at all.
