About the IAP's I know, some games are designed around maximizing IAP sales. Giving you a lot of easy progress in the onboarding and then spiking the difficulty curve once you are hooked. Last Bastion is not like that, you can think of the IAP's as paid cheat codes. An average player can easily play through the whole game without any purchases. Sarper Şoher Member Nov 19, 2021 11 20 3 Male Game Developer https://www.sarpersoher.com #5 Sarper Şoher, Nov 19, 2021 Thanks for your input, here is my humble opinion on the subject. If they are totally optional and the game is designed to be balanced and fun without any purchase, they are just there for people who would like to support the developer really. Making and shipping a game is difficult, unless you work with a well known publisher or have a company with a big fan base / marketing budget, you have to be competitive with the pricing. So it doesn't hurt if I try using alternative ways of further monetization that is completely optional, without showing annoying popups nudging players towards making purchases. All the offers are acquirable through normal gameplay. I'd actually prefer people enjoy the game in the pace I've designed it for, that is without using any shortcuts for powerful in-game equipment early on. But I can't imagine people paying USD $15 or more in a market with millions of free games. This is the best alternative I've decided on to releasing the game for free and filling it with 20+ seconds video ads after every level. That disgusts me. decript, Ringerill, Ijipop and 7 others like this. It’s good being able to pause mid-level to experiment with different weapons and ammo. Not so good is having to keep contact with the screen continually. I find that awkward after a while, so would request either continuing auto-fire or pause when not touching the screen. Sarper Şoher likes this. Pausing (or going into slow motion mode) after a couple seconds when not touching the screen is a great idea. It may be a little difficult for players to understand at first so I may add it to the settings screen as an accessability option that is turned off by default. I don't want players to feel completely safe as if playing a turn based strategy game, but I also understand how it may become uncomfortable touching the screen continously for long gameplay sessions. I will think of this feature and add it in some form in the upcoming updates, thank you! Asp likes this. I’m more inclined to try the longer levels now I can take a breather with the slow motion! Also seems better optimised as definitely running more smoothly, which in turn helps with targeting. One thing that is not explicitly told through the game is, if the Battery Saver option is turned on in iOS I lock the game at 30 fps to further save battery life. So you may have changed that option, that would explain the game running more smoothly as I did no optimization work for this update. About variety, if my budget allowed it I would've liked more variation for the chapter bosses. They are a weak spot of the game at the moment. Alas, I've already burned a huge hole in my pocket. But I am very happy with how I designed the final showdown at the end of the game and can't wait for you guys to play that part. adamphetamine, Ringerill, Ijipop and 1 other person like this. Sarper Şoher Member Nov 19, 2021 11 20 3 Male Game Developer https://www.sarpersoher.com #19 Sarper Şoher, Dec 9, 2021 @Asp thanks! To beat chapter 8, wizards should be your primary target. You can target them directly by keeping your touch on them, that way you will target them even if there are knights in front of them. Do that to drop a fire or poison arrow in the middle of their formations. That will soften them up and you can get them all at the same time with a second poison, or a single shot per wizard. Slow down the time if it's too frantic to target them precisely. Ignore the knights and focus on getting rid of the wizards as soon as possible, their range is high and if they get in range they will do a ton of damage with their combined firepower. Use a heavy ballista with knockback, since they move slow, the knockback of your ballista will push them back, stopping them from getting in range. Steel reinforced ballista is a good choice for the whole chapter for example. Make sure your wall durability is upgraded to at least level 5. You can access the upgrade in the shop from the main menu and also in the game over screen directly. If you don't have enough money for poison arrows or wall durability upgrades, you can always re-play the previous chapters to make more. Let me know if it still feels too difficult and I will triple check the balancing of the level and maybe make some adjusments, good luck! Asp likes this.
