It looks great, but the controls are, to put it bluntly, absolutely horrible. It has some weird swipe control scheme that is incredibly cumbersome to use, and there is zero precision in them whatsoever. If it had a more standard control scheme, a la Meteor Blitz, it could be a great game... But with the way the controls are now I will likely never play it again. I don't know what the dev was going for with them, but they don't work, unfortunately. Edit- I just figured them out, they aren't as bad as I thought. The ship is always shooting and always moving "forward", you just move your finger side to side to rotate the ship and adjust its heading. Now that I've figured them out, I can definitely recommend the game to those that like old school space shooters like this. It's not ground breaking, but it doesn't aim to be. The controls aren't the best, but they are more workable than I had previously thought. It's definitely a gorgeous looking game and certainly has that old school flavor. I apologize for the first half of my post, mea culpa. psj3809 Moderator Jan 13, 2011 12,929 688 113 England #6 psj3809, May 12, 2015 ^Thanks for the post. Yeah the games cheap but it sounds like the controls are crazy so despite loving the retro look and vector graphics i'm passing on this one Grimstone82 Well-Known Member Jan 3, 2011 594 0 0 Northbrook, IL #7 Grimstone82, May 12, 2015 I edited my post, I should have given it a few more minutes before I posted. I'd say it's worth the buck if you are a fan of these sort of games. Not the best controls, not by a long shot, but my difficulty with them at first was my fault, not the game's. meril Well-Known Member Patreon Gold Oct 13, 2011 65 0 6 Switzerland #8 meril, May 12, 2015 Last edited: May 12, 2015 Control is fine, just swipe the finger left or right to rotate the ship. the ship is shooting and moving constantly. I don't mind trying new things I believe in innovation but when you are fighting the controls more than the game that's a problem. It needs a proper control scheme. A solution might be an analog stick for direction and a left/right slider for strafe. Leave in the auto fire and auto forward movement if you want it would be much better. Thanks for everyone who tried the game and especially for the feedback. The controls are definitely divisive and I've definitely not made it easy by not providing any on-screen help, so something to rectify in a future update. Sounds like I need to provide some options for more traditional controls as well. You can swipe up to boost which adds a much finer sense of control once you get used to it. Again, I really appreciate the feedback and will take it on board for further versions. I'm about on Twitter if anyone wants to rant at me @joeyspacerocks forsakenxe Well-Known Member Oct 23, 2014 709 0 16 #11 forsakenxe, May 13, 2015 On my watchlist for now! Will wait for control scheme updates meril Well-Known Member Patreon Gold Oct 13, 2011 65 0 6 Switzerland #12 meril, May 15, 2015 Last edited: May 15, 2015 Every once in a while i buy a game in the app store just to play it once or twice, just like in the "good old times“ as i spend my bucks into arcade machines. And every once in a while the downloaded game is surprisingly well, most better then expected. This game is one of them. About the controls: In my opinion, they are very well made and accurate, but it needs time to find out how they works. I use my left thumb to control the ships rotation (left-right-slides) and my right thumb to thrust (swipe up). I play on an iPad, so i cant say how this works on a iPhone. The action is old school, simple but effective. There are asteriods and different kind of enemy ships. The asteriods break into smaller parts if you hit them like in Asteriods (or Asteriods Deluxe). From the technical point everything is smooth and fluid. There are bonus items also, i.e. free ships, shields, multi shots and so. They appears randomly if you destroy asteroids. Generally everything is randomly also whitch enemy will attack you. This is my only criticism: If you have luck, you became 3 - 4 free ships in a game and don’t have stress with a lot of enemies. If you have bad luck, you became no ships. It would be better, not everything would be random generated i.e. in level 1 attacks you only enemy one, from level 3 came enemy two etc. and free ships only i.e. every 5000 points. But aside of this, the game is an excellent arcade experience (including the top score list. in which you can write three letters :-D) and totally underrated. So kudos to the dev, this game will stay on my device for longer time, maybe forever. Had more fun as with lot of bigger and higher priced games! joeyspacerocks New Member May 8, 2015 3 0 0 London http://www.fistfulofsquid.com #13 joeyspacerocks, May 15, 2015 Hi meril - thank you so much for such a great review The powerups are indeed a bit too random and as you say could do with some balancing. I'll have a look into that and might issue an update as I think it would improve the balance. Thanks again - glad you enjoy the game. Joe (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
