So, not relevant to the current stage of the riddle, but I just realized something back in the part with the GCAP images, there were the first four images that mapped to "GCAP" then the picture of the waterslide and the cat enthusiast. Well, "waterslide" = slide (as someone already pointed out), and the cat enthusiast is the fifth character from the selection screen (ignoring the random button). So "waterslide enthusiast" = fifth slide, which is the slide that LarryLives is on! Of course, Muscat "solved" that last bit by just posting the image of the relevant slide, but still I like knowing, even in hindsight, that all the clues make sense!
I think it may have been intended to be even more simple than that. The pixelated image clues simply told us to look for a Land Sliders character on a slide at GCAP in order to find the next step. The character turned out to be Turny standing on top of a mountain, and on the mountain is where the next clue was written. Now, as to the current puzzle, the new cypher was discovered by following bloody marks in the snow in the yeti game. One can imagine an injured person/creature running away or seeking help. Our LarryLives clue, written on the mountain, seems to indicate that this person/creature is not dead. I bet once the new cypher is solved, we'll learn more about this hidden story.
I also think there was a presumption that you needed to have played Skiing Yeti Mountain to have figured out the clue - otherwise I don't see how one could've connected "Larry" to the game. So I think the chain of logic would be (i) LarryLives points to the notion that Larry (in SYM) wasn't actually dead (although I did read that there was a "Ghost Larry" somewhere), (ii) oct represents octal, (iii) 1.1.1 represents the SYM game version (I'm presuming the previous versions didn't show the same blood mark patterns), and (iv) LS1.2 means to apply that to the sun cipher in the new version of the game. (That said, it's a pretty neat mechanic to hide subtly the solution in the scenery of another game!) So now we need to figure out how to link a date/time to that new clue! Awesome job to Nathan_l1 on figuring it out! =D
I died while I was on the keypad screen and had a mini heart attack thinking it then might not work after spending at least 30 mins finding a level with it on Whoops left that off the list, I also tried the keywords enigma and enimgaroom. But the enigma room clue still being unused gives me the idea that having someone go back to the enigma room at the right date/time would lead to them giving us the keyword to this cipher
The guy at the Enigma Room say to "go back and solve LarryLives" - so I'm thinking we can get a time and date from this clue (rather than the other way around)... By the way, the first line of the cipher is "QLDCALLONTX". Given I'm from Aus, the first thing that jumps out to me is QLD (state of Queensland, where PrettyGreat is located). I'm not sure whether that phrase is supposed to mean "QLD call on TX"? (There's apparently a town called Texas in QLD, but haven't really looked into that yet.)
The question now being how do we figure out when to go there and have we missed it/what happens if we do
It is possible that is the case becase we could have figured out the larrylives clue before version 1.2 even came out
I've tried many different ciphers but can't seem to crack it. Will keep trying but I think this one is out of my league Don't believe it is a substitution cipher since the first word is eleven letters with 3 repeated (only a couple words would fit and none make sense to the game) Not a Caesar cipher either. Could be another vigenere cipher but we need to find the correct key.
Brute forcing it could take a while but it's entirely possible unless the keyword is a random string of letters or the cipher is a different one that doesn't use a keyword, worth noting I also tried decoding it using rotation ciphers 1-25
I tried that as well (rotation cipher can be known as a Caesar cipher I believe) Substitution didn't work either since the eleven letter word doesn't fit. I will try more keys later but maybe we missed something that shown the key
I've been trying to think of 11 letter words that are relevant to all of the puzzle so far but no luck. When I first saw the screen I assumed the first word would be fairly easy to crack therefore giving the way to crack the rest of the text
Clues: Spoiler QLDCALLONTX is a hint to the cipher key, not part of the encoded cipher. Only mentioning this because I was meant to make that line in Helvetica to make it match the first one, so it wouldn't be so misleading.
Also here is the plain text of what's on the screen for ease of copy pasting it into decrypters and such (note NS appears twice and is the only one that does) SWLGUO ALSHPS. IAXWO AHTJBF VXBNLME ZCOAG BKDYVQ TOOL BQOSDG NS KY- HKCRZ GQGN 2-5 NFSXAY. BVTBC 2 NS MWA XFXLMBUVZ. AYKBU QAZU JUBNXDYU: GNK GSWFKSC PNB HMVWVKE VIGK ZIPA HX
I just used a vigenere solver which finds the keyword for you based on repetitions etc. It chose the keyword hijgbkinggb which is completely random but produced the following result. LOCATE SYMBOL. ARRVE SUNDAY NOVMBER TWNTY SECOND NINE THIRTY AM EX- ACTLY WITH 2-5 HELPRS. ALLOW 2 HR FOR RENDZVOUS. SPEAK INTO INTERCOM: THE FLOWERS HAV BLOOMED LATE THIS YR
Great job! (Ok, so just to sate my curiosity, what on earth is HIJGBKINGGB?) So we have all the clues now - just need 3-6 people to go there on a Sunday morning!
