There is only one thing that could make me stop from coming here, and that is all the promo code requests, you wouldn't believe how many we get. I'm very glad people are interested in our games. We only get 50 codes, and there are hundreds of sites out there, simple algebra tells you that not everyone can get one. Even if it just takes 2 minutes to reply to each PM, you get sort of sick of after 15 PMs a day. Every day.
HAHAHA... i love when people just post things like "would love to share this game with my 2 children after a hard day of work" it cracks me up when people beg for codes with sympathy and i hate when devs expect you to write a five star review just because they are giving you a promo code. these codes should be considered beta tests, not free five star reviews...
Most are very polite and friendly and show a true interest in the game. Perhaps some just need to realize that a site with 50'000 viewers a day (like TA) will get a promo code before a personal blog with less than 50 visitors a day. We get a good amount of phony emails as well, claiming they write for certain sites etc. Hmm maybe we should start to collect the funny ones, there are all kinds of funny stories
I vote for adding the ability to skip levels, and I wonder in what way you think it would take some of the fun out of the game. Currently, if I am playing a level-pack and get stuck on some level and don't want to keep beating my head against it, I can: 1) Keep trying anyhow. 2) Stop playing that level-pack even though there might be other good levels in it. If you add the ability to skips levels and I am playing a level-pack and get stuck on some level and don't want to keep beating my head against it, I can: 1) Keep trying anyhow. 2) Stop playing that level-pack even though there might be other good levels in it. 3) Go onto the next level and keep playing. How does having option three possibly make the game less fun? Less frustrating definitely, but not less fun. By the way, I find the trial and error nature of the Enigma levels the very epitome of frustrating. Michael
One workaround is to use the Favorites function. Mark as Fav the packs you want to play and not the rest.
I'm strongly against the ability to skip levels. Why not just do that in every game? I'll go and buy Call of Duty and play the last level first. It just isn't done, the whole point is you're trying to achieve something, you're working towards the next level. No decent game gives you everything for free, otherwise there'd barely be any game left. N works in very much the same way, and look how much love that game gets. Levels are split into packs, you can choose from several but if you want to advance you have to play the game. It's generous enough giving you an almost infinite number of packs to choose from and you're still not happy? So you suck on one particular level, big deal, you're gonna miss out on a couple until you get better. Go practise by downloading 500 more. Leave yourself something to look forward to.
To me there is an incentive to complete the level -- I get to play the next one if I complete it. That incentive is lost if you can skip levels. I still see your point though. You also saw that another TA memeber wanted to keep it the way it is. I'll bring it up for discussion on Monday! Enigma isn't supposed to be solved by trial and error. Apart from level 4 and the last one, there are clues in the pattern that the buttons form. But judging by the amount of questions I get regarding Enigma, it's pretty clear that we need to improve it somehow, perhaps by adding a little popup with help.
And plus the fact that someone can skip through all the level and just rate everything low... Cause you know, that's just how some people are...
Ya but what if we hit a road block?? Just by saying that you can eventually clear it if we practice more isn't fair. There are times when you just can't clear a level even with practice! So the rest of the levels after that level will remain untouched and all the work you or others put into developing those levels goes waste. So pls. introduce some cheats that will enable us or do it by default
Then you're not practicing enough. Would you like to win the superbowl without any practice too? Asking for the ability to skip levels just reminds me of the people who PAY to unlock everything for their games on the Playstation Store. Seriously, you can basically buy completed save files... it's utterly ridiculous and I wouldn't complain if whoever thought of that idea got shot.
Perhaps that's why we disagree on this. I don't play Laybrinth because I am trying to achieve something big, or because I am working towards the next level. I play in order to have fun and entertain myself. All I am trying to achieve is to finish the current level. Having to play the same one 50 times doesn't feel like fun with me. Besides, your analogy doesn't really fit anyhow. The reason Call of Duty type games don't (and probably shouldn't) unlock the least level from the start is that in those games there is both a storyline to go through and a character to be leveled up. Unlocked the last level in COD would leave you in a spot where you didn't understand what was going on, and your character might not be strong enough to survive. As far as I can tell from my first hour or so of play, there is no storyline in Labyrinth 2. There is also no in game character leveling up. So those arguments against unlocking everything at once don't really hold. COD is more like a novel, where it doesn't make sense to read the last chapter before reading the earlier ones. Labyrinth 2 is more like a collection of unconnected short stories. If I am not enjoying one of the stories, no one is hurt if I decide to skip to the next one. Regards, Michael
but there are at least a few thousand (and growing) level packs ready to download... why are you dwelling on one level
The analogy works for me. You don't level up in CoD single player, and I don't ever give a damn about the story, I just enjoy each level separately for what it is... but that doesn't mean I'd want to cheat my way to the last one without having played the others. People play games to feel accomplished. How popular are leaderboard requests on this forum? As soon as a new game is announced: "are there local/online leaderboards?". We want to be challenged. Labyrinth 2 is already better than other games in that regard because you can basically adapt to your skill level by playing an assortment of different packs. Take away the challenge and the incentive and it's not a game anymore, it's just a toy, and toys aren't very fun beyond the "look what my iPhone can do!" factor.
Because if I am enjoying a level pack, I would like the opportunity to try finish the rest of the levels even if I can't do one of them. On a game without scoring beyond times on an individual level, without any kind of global scoreboard, why do you possibly care if I don't do every level in a pack? Its not like I am trying to get one some list as the greatest Labyrinther in the world by only playing the easy levels. Michael
Actually I'm beginning to see what those guys on the Playstation Store were getting at now. To be honest, opening up the whole game would spoil it for me, so the only true solution would be to release a "noob" version of the game, though I don't think Illusion Labs are prepared to go that far.
I believe this sentence is key to what I'm getting at. If you're only playing the easy levels... why not just do that? Only play the easy packs and you'll have no problem. That's the whole reason they've been split into difficulties. You've already admitted you might not be able to do the hardest levels anyway, so just avoid the packs and you won't have to suffer at all. Anders said in the level editor thread that the most popular custom levels so far are all easy and medium, so you're not exactly missing out on much anyway.
