"Shareware" is a pretty dated term. Historically it referred to software distributed through free distribution channels like BBSes, with an unlock code built into the software. Not much like the modern App Store.

I would say "free trial with IAP unlock for the full game".

Can't argue with that. Considering the rather 'nostalgic' look of Kingturn, the dated term shareware might be quite fitting, though :).

I'm glad you decided to change it! Regardless of the actual definition of freemium, I believe it is mostly associated with the virtual goods model in these forums (and perhaps others). Shareware, while an older term, doesn't appear to have the same connotation so I think it works much better. I'd personally just say this is a premium game with a built-in demo lol.

Back to game discussion. This is supposed to be a prequel, right? I saw one screenshot with a map that doesn't look like the one in Kingturn.

Here's a quote from the developer in the Kingturn upcoming thread explaining some of the chronology. It might help if they were to include a brief narrative segment at the beginning of each game explaining the continuity somewhat.

Also from the game world maps Kingturn Plus takes place is East Andaria and (just) Kingturn takes place in West Andaria. I can't find the world map for Kingturn Underworld.

I don't know how long it's going to take for these ports but I can't wait.

Obviously it's got to be quicker than making the game from scratch so I'm hoping months rather than years !

I think it took the devs several months to port Kingturn but they were learning Unity as they went (according to their website) so hopefully these will come quicker !?

Reading all the reviews about how good the android versions are has really got me excited for these. Once I finish the main campaign in Kingturn I will be chomping at the bit for this game !

Why not just get a cheap Android pad and play them earlier? It seems like that is the lead platform for the Kingturn series...

I've thought about doing this a few times in the past for similar reasons but I have enough on with the gaming platforms I'm already involved with without putting another online store in my credit cards path ! Thx for the reply but I'm waiting till they come to IOS.

Some of us really love the Kingturn series, but still not to the tune of hundreds of bucks/euros. ;) ? And apart from the few exceptions like this, iOS still has much more to offer, game-wise, IMHO.
But, yea, I'll be waiting too, once I finish Kingturn, which, thankfully, has quite a bit of content. 14 missions down and more than 4/5 of the game yet to go - that's value, coupled with addicting gameplay.

No worries, you won't have to wait for Kingturn Plus for too long.

While I can't offer a release date, yet, it's definitely not a matter of many months. A careful estimate would be something around June or July 2013.

Quite likely a while apart. We want to add a few additional scenarios to Kingturn Underworld in the meantime.

Even if someone has played the original games, it might be still worth it to have at least a look at the free versions.
We've overhauled many scenarios and added a few as well (especially in Kingturn Underworld). With all the changes based on the Kingturn engine (overhauled classes, legendary weapons, elite units, spawn system) many scenarios play and feel different compared to the original versions.
Anyway, you can play 8 scenarios for free and make up your mind whether it's worth it to get the remakes as well.

I would say, though, that for those new to the series it doesn't make much sense to buy Sw&Ear and Knighturn, after they have played the superior remakes Kingturn Plus and Kingturn Underworld.

I decided not to get Sw&Ear and Knighturn, and instead (impatiently) wait for the remakes to be ported. The ETA of June-July for Kingturn Plus would be awesome. I think I'm about halfway done with Kingturn and it's honestly depressing knowing that it's going to end...

@undeadcow -- Thank you for your detailed response earlier (with the map screenshots and all)!!

The apparent success of Kingturn on Android (versus relative failure of Sw&Ear/Knighturn on iOS) suggests Android is some sort of promised land for deeper games although I'm not sure that's true. I am curious about the different between the two marketplaces. It sure seems like for indie RPGs there are several promising Android exclusives (but iOS exclusives like The Quest Gold, Cavern, or Fall of Angels might trump those).
I am really excited to see all of these coming to iOS, and so quickly too. After the wait for (just) Kingturn a few months will be a breeze.
It's ironic hearing about new content in a game you're not even able to play yet... but that's one thing that stands out even from the early iOS Sw&Ear days, continued new scenarios were added without extra charge. I really liked the epilogue material to Kingturn with new enemies. The material from Sw&Ear in (just) Kingturn was a blast, it's unfortunate that new iOS player might not catch the carry-over (yet).

Update available now ! Can't wait to try it. Long live Kingturn. Looking forward to making battles extra tense with perma-death for characters per scenario (optional)

Edit : sry wrong thread. My comment relates to Kimgturn which had just recieved a patch.

I couldn't wait and got Knighturn on iOS anyhow a few days ago.

After playing Kingturn it's great to be able to play a really good adaptation of a necromancer and it is, for me, a very different style of game play than in Kingturn where I'd have Gregory tank and Nicolette and the magic dealers mass attack the enemies.

Of all the pricing models I think the shareware (yeah I'm showing my age here) or freemium model where the user tries before buying is the best model.

Dev gets more exposure and publicity from the free app being distributed, players get to try and if they like it, buy, or if they don't, no harm done.

We have come a long way from paying $30-80 for a PC game only to find that we don't like it.

Thanks for a great game and a great pricing model, niebau. After the Prologue, I hit Buy without hesitation.

Yeah! Great news to see Kingturn Plus coming out so soon and at a crazy low price too! 17 more days...

Will the release edition of Kingturn Plus include the addition of character portraits in diaglogue and revised dynamic enemy spawns (discussed in the Kingturn thread)?
