Well, I appreciate your theorizing quite much actually, and my judgement has been wrong in the past already. Anyway, I hope with this change I have found the right balance for those players who are satisfied with the current system, and for those who see some weaknesses.
Kingturn Plus Release Date I can finally confirm the release date of Kingturn Plus. It is June 20, 2013. I will post all additional information regarding Kingturn Plus on this thread now: http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?p=2851305#post2851305
Additional mini-campaigns would be a nice feature. Would that new content be standalone without transfer from the core gameplay? It's been a while but I really enjoyed the additional end game demon levels in Knighturn with enemies cool enough they could have formed their own game. This sounds like it will produce enemy spawns that feel a lot more intelligent and reactionary to user movements. Any idea when that implementation might occur? Great news! I'm really looking forward to Kingturn Plus.
That depends. Right now I have two ideas for additional content: a) To continue the main story with focus on Yvonne and Eugene. This might make more sense as part of the main campaign b) A separate campaign where the player controls Grimlogs. It is implemented already for the initial release of Kingturn Plus (June 20). And it will be added to Kingturn soon as well (together with the new character portraits). Not sure, yet, whether this will happen before or shortly after the Kingturn Plus release.
Those both sound excellent; as much as the Yvonne and Eugene subplot stood out in the main campaign controlling the Grimlocks sounds amazing. I appreciate the continued throught towards expanding Kingturn, it's already a massive game as is.
I really enjoyed the Eugene and Yvonne story too. There was such great humor and endearment in it. Really happy you'll be expanding it. For me it is the story that really drives the game and makes it unique. After each scenario I actually look forward to seeing that happens next to Gregory and Nicolette and the rest. Cannot wait till June 20! Will it be a worldwide release?
Yes, it will be a worldwide release. I'll post additional info within the next days, for example about the 'new' classes Ranger, Champion and Amazon.
The name is misleading but Kingturn Plus is a sequel to Kingturn, with continuity set at the same time. It contains 65 new scenarios, exclusive character classes, and it's own epic plot in a separate app. There is actually a "Kingturn Trilogy" with three unique games - (just) Kingturn, Kingturn Plus, and Kingturn Underworld (a prequel). Initially I thought Kingturn Plus was some sort of upgrade or enhanced edition of Kingturn too but it's all new content.
*grin* pretty sure I asked niebau if he can change the name somewhere Yup, here: http://forums.toucharcade.com/showpost.php?p=2773025&postcount=122 I still vote for calling it "Kingturn:Andaria" .
I'm so excited to play the sequel. I just got a few scenarios left to complete on Kingturn so this couldn't have come at a better time! This is one of those games (trilogy) that I doubt will ever leave my ipad...
I agree a name change for Kingturn Plus would help. Also adding a subtitle to this app, Kingturn, to give it it's own indentity in the series and be more colorful. These games will be on my iDevice indefinitely too; I'm still trying to figure out how they fit all this content into just 50.8mb installed.
I've beaten the main game and now have level 22 or so characters in the skirmish mode. I've got about 23k gold and 20 mercenaries. I have noticed that enemies have items with stats better than you can buy (for standard items) and I actually got two rare items with different stats. I don't know if this is because rare items can drop with better stats with increased levels or what is going on. I attached a picture collage to show what I'm talking about. I don't have any of the white items. This game is awesome though, I downloaded war hammer quest and still play this more.
You have pretty much hit the nail on the head with your assumption. Allow me to elaborate: The initial release of Kingturn came without a skirmish mode and had a level cap of 15. Our tier-based item system still reflects this fact with item names being unique only up to tier 15. So your items are indeed tier-15-named items with dynamically generated stats that are higher than tier 15. While this is not much of an issue for the main campaign where your units won't get much past level 16-18 (depending on difficulty setting and play style), this is a different story for the unlimited skirmish mode, admittedly. We will address this in our next Kingturn patch accordingly. The 'cheapest' solution would obviously be to simply add the (stat-based) tier number to the item name. Maybe a combined solution of adding a few more unique tier names and adding the stat-based tier number will do the trick. After rereading a few other posts concerning the item system, I am also inclined to remove the item tier cap for the item merchant, although quite likely only for the Skirmish campaign.
The biggest problem with the current item system is the fact that enemies have better items than you can buy AND the AI is pretty smart on who to kill. I'd like to see more chests in the skirmish mode as I think currently only the Step by Step scenario offers a chest. Maybe a better chance at rare items would help as well. I'm being a little greedy here but I've completed tons of scenarios but maybe get a rare item every 20 or 30 scenarios at best. That relates to hundreds of kills. I liked how after a certain point I was allowed to get another hero and adding a new scenario to get heros every so many levels would be neat. The enemies at times have 5 or more heroes in a match and you only get 2 in skirmish. Overall these aren't complaints because I absolutely love this game, just ways it could be even better.
I fully understand your point, and I've started removing the item level cap for the campaign mode merchant already. Right now I'm also looking into other changes which might make the skirmish mode more enjoyable for higher level units. As for the item drops, I guess you are referring to legendary (purple) items? Because rare items (blue) are a rather common drop for elite units, so judging from your level, you should actually have quite a lot of them already.
I have 11 rare items and 12 legendary items equipped and 1 of each in stash since they are low level items. This includes the rare and legendary items you receive in your skirmish quests as well. I have won 139 scenarios with who knows how many losses (enemy first turn sometimes slaughters, lol.) I may have sold some lower end rares or legendaries early on but I honestly don't know. I know I like legendaries though I also forgot to mention, some enemies, normally mages, have enough defense to negate 100% of an attack. Mages I point out specifically because I've noticed those more. They get a high natural magic defense, have increased items, and then have a rare or legendary amulet that gives like +20 all defenses. I will say I don't really mind this because it adds a nice challenge if just I could reach the same lol. It makes you have to be versatile. I know you are working on another king turn game and a neat item would be for some type of armor piercing. Instead of +15 physical or +12 bow you could have +4 physical/bow/power, +7 pierce physical/bow/power. I know the armor is a percentage so I'm not sure how to scale it well but it's an idea. Anyways like I said before, this is a great game and keep up the good work
