Lived the initial game (at least before all the MTX content) so I bought it instantly. Quite disappointed to see that the new content is either stuff I don't like because it's not improving gameplay mechanics (the gem store) or locked under MTX (you get 3 heroes for purchasing the game and 6 'cooler' heroes only as MTX) Loved the little special animations in every level. Wish the dev team focused on gameplay and less on MTX. Their next game won't be an instant purchase for me anymore.
I was a bit disappointed with this so i went and reinstalled the old one and now I'm playing that again
I'm at 64/75 stars so far using default heroes but having trouble with dunes of despair iron challenge, anyone done it?
just asking..can this game be completed with default heroes, no gem items and just pure strategy? (3stars on every stage)
Definitely. While the IAP heroes might be an issue, the crystals are 100% entirely unnecessary to play the game to total completion. I sometimes forget about them and only notice them again after saving up a couple of thousand of them. I then use them if a certain level is irritating me, which is rare. Also, while I'm sure it'll be easier with some of the IAP heroes, the base ones you get are entirely sufficient to complete the game. And they're pretty cool on their own too. I might be getting the first three IAP heroes just for fun if their prices drop, it's just too expensive right now. But also entirely optional, doesn't wreck this great game for me at all.
Yes, that's how I did it playing on normal however some of the iron challenges look like they may require items/better hero.
I've just completed a full 3-star campaign on veteran (didn't try the lower difficulties) with default heroes and no gems and one or two-shotted most stages (bar Temple of Saqra, which I found the only genuinely challenging one). I found the campaign disappointingly easy once you get the Battle-Mecha. The last few stages I one-shotted 3 stars with the same Battle-Mecha plus Archer towers strategy each time. Anyway, onto the Iron Challenges, which won't (hopefully) fall foul to rinse-and-repeat strategy.
allrighty..thanks guys..some inspiration to keep me going hahaha lost jungle is troubling me..mix of face huggers, earth shamans and gorillas are keeping me on 2 stars..been using axethrowers and the hero mirage...any suggestions?
Just tried this... here's how: Spoiler Recruit 3 Genie mercenaries from the top tent and position them up top. Place archer towers in all the spots bar the very top (it just seemed useless). The genies will take care of Immortals, and the archer towers everything else. Then steadily upgrade archer towers closest to the genies. That was it. Here was my final setup: http://i.imgur.com/EWkFLNX.png?2
I did this with Mirage also. From memory: Spoiler You'll want crossbow towers on the right path as a priority. This is where the magic resistant, fast, low hp enemies come from through the game. I used one barracks in the spot furthest back down the path just to catch strays. Axethrowers are a support tower... from my experience, you only really need one at a choke point for the effect of (maxed out) totems, then leave the damage to the other towers. Therefore, I placed my axethrower at the tip of the grass in the middle, then surrounded it with crossbow towers. Early on most maps I use Rain of Fire to take out Earth Shamans, but thereafter the totems neuter them sufficiently to just take them out with physical damage.
ahhh..now i see my mistakes...thank you kind sir EDIT: woah... it worked..so effectively...gave me more ideas how to approach things hahaha.. ty ty
Absolutely. People's subjective opinions of the quality of the two titles aside, it is basically an expansion to the original but designed in a way that leaves it a complement to the original, not a replacement. All of the Level 4 towers are new with different powers and the hero leveling mechanics are persistent (and customizable on your way to L10). Not to mention, a whole new selection of heroes. Both of these games will be sitting on my device for a long time.
I love the notion that there is even 0.001% more strategy in placing a tower intelligently vs knowing when to use a gem based power up? Or why you would care if you can or can't beat the game with the gem based items? The game rains gems on you. There are far more gems handed out than you can possibly spend intelligently. The anti-IAP mania around here reaches some ridiculous levels when people are refusing to use a game mechanic built into the game from the ground up and which doesn't require you to pay a single cent simply because you had the option to buy more gems instead of using the ones you get through gameplay. Short of using the strategy of grinding for/buying a few hundred thousand gems so you can buy so many nukes you can just nuke your way through the final levels, it's not even like the gem power ups are that powerful. For good players, all they amount to is the ability to freeze that enemy who is about to cost you a perfect game long enough for your towers to finish them off when the RNG gods allowed a unit through your otherwise solid defense; for the bad players, there is no amount of non-nukes that is going to make a difference, the very design of the game prevents you from winning through the powerups in any reasonable scenario - your choice in tower placement and level ups is always going to be the difference between success and failure. The really ridiculous part: if the gems could only be earned through gameplay such that the notion you could buy your way to victory was absent, many of the people who are so anti-gem and bragging about their gemless strategies would be in here bragging about their gem farming strategies and when to best use <X> powerup to make it past an otherwise near impossible wave .
Does anyone know where to start looking for the "find 3 alien hunters" achievement? I love finding all the in built references and spoofs (thanks for nearly letting me fail a level, Indie) but I can't seem to crack that one. I'd assume it's on the lost jungle level, but I can't find anything besides trees and stuff to kill there -_-
Spoiler One is hidden in each of the first three jungle levels. They are on the edge of the trees, and blend in. Tap them and they appear.
It's not anti-IAP to pursue the goal on each level of completing it without any gems, regardless of whether you get them for cash or from grinding.
@ scorpion008, thanks mate, I thought they might be stealthy aliens vs predator references but I never spotted them.
Hey, no problem. I had to ask myself, over at Ironhide forums. If you are really interested in Kingdom Rush, check it out and maybe become a member. Site: http://www.ironhidegames.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=5
Can someone comment on what is strongest overall hero? Also what about Sha'Tra Protos vs Nivus mage? who comes out on top? Is dragon worth getting at all?
