Lol. $9.99 to $2.99. More evidence why I never buy a game at launch price. I have no problem buying premium games but it's inevitable that the price drops in a month or two.

There was no way this game was worth $9.99. I guess that was just the sucker price.
$2.99 though is a good price point for this game. I'm downloading it now. Glad I waited.

This game is worth way more than $10. One of the best games released this year. Feel bad for the cheap suckers who have absolutely no idea the value of quality things. Even funnier when people try to state the worth of a game they've never even played themselves. Human ignorance truly is remarkable.

Don't forget after posting how a game isn't worth money to head into the next thread for a free to play game and complain about how all games these days have IAP and how you wish developers would make actual premium games without any IAP shenanigans.

Speaking of ignorance. I bought this game when it came out on steam. So I agree with your last point.

Seriously. There are so many good games out that are free that people bash it just because it has IAP. IAP doesn't automatically make it a bad game. I don't known why people feel that way.

If you played the game on Steam, surely you know it's a steal at $9.99 and referring to that as the "sucker price" really only reinforces the stereotype that iOS gamers are insufferable cheapskates.

There are some free to play games that I've played for years and sunk hundreds of dollars into them. But sure, I'm a cheapskate. I already got suckered by this game once. It wasn't going to happen a second time.

Either way. This game is done downloading so I'm going to go enjoy it at the right price point.

It's no wonder iOS developers don't hang out on these forums anymore.

Maybe not a cheapskate, just an asshole. There are ways of saying you didn't think a game was worth the price or that you didn't like it without saying anyone who did enjoy it or did think it was worth the price is a sucker.

I am fully behind just shutting the forums down. Would make our lives infinitely easier.

This has nothing to do with "worth" of the game. It's the same with $60 console games. Perhaps it's "worth" the extra money to play a game on launch. To me it's not. 3 months later it's the same game or usually even better after bug updates have been released. I have a huge backlog of unplayed games as it is. I have no interest in playing a game at launch so why would I pay full price for a game that will sit in a folder unplayed for 3 months when I know 3 months later the price will be a fraction of what it was launched at.

Perhaps iOS gamers aren't unsufferable cheapskates but rather more intelligent consumers. Delay instant gratification for long term savings.

I spend far more on f2p games than premium. I will often buy a $20 starter pack just to support a dev. I have no problem spending money on games and I'm not broke.

My problem is with expectations. f2p games are actually more honest imo. You know there will be iap up front. You know what most f2p games are about.

With a premium game they seem to punish early supporters. Over and over I watch a game drop to 25% of its original price. It's this very thing that has made me stop buying premium games on release. I haven't bought Death Road but I respect the dev. It's on my list of games to play when I have time and I respect that it hasn't dropped in price. It's actually gone up!

If that dev holds to their word then their next game I will most likely buy day one. They set honest expectations and I appreciate that.

If you don't want iOS gamers to claim that $9.99 is too high then quit setting the expectation yourself. If you drop your games price so low then you're the one telling the gaming community what your game is worth. If you think your game is worth $9.99 then leave it at $9.99.

No, actually I never know what F2P games are about.

Is it a treadmill where real money saves you grind time? Is it a cool extra that's just there so players can "tip" the developer? How much does the game balance work to force the player to either spend money or suffer? Are there timers? Are there IAP currencies only, and are the things they purchase accessible with the regular in-game currency? Is it one-time use?

And then there's the whole aspect of multiplayer freemium games that mirror what life in the United States is slowly becoming; a wonderland for those who have means, which allows them to stomp all over those who do not for fun and profit.

Premium games are as honest as it gets: "Buy our game for this price if you want to play early and/or want to support us because you're aware of our quality as a developer, or wait for a sale or longterm price reduction to dip your toe in the water if you can't buy it otherwise or just aren't sure our work product is to your liking."

Honest and simple enough for me.

I wonder how many threads we can ruin today with off-topic pay model discussion. Maybe we can break our previous record.

Maybe as part of migrating over to Xenforo we can add a toggle similar to the "Are you posting game impressions?" thing that's something along the lines of "Are you posting about pay models?" and if you check that as yes your post only shows up for you.

Honestly, I'll eat one less frozen burrito a month if it means not needing to deal with this anymore.

I've never seen a group of video game journalists that seem to despise their readers so much. It's very odd. I listen and read IGN, Polygon, Gameinformer, etc and toucharcade is consistently the most negative towards their readers.

I don't think it's entirely their fault. Mobile gaming is a much different landscape than other gaming groups. But unless people are throwing around threats, slurs or harassment is it really so bad that you want to shut things down or silence opinions?

Take it easy guys. Yeah, this is a pricing discussion on a game thread that just made a significant price change. What is so terrible about this? What is so terrible about this conversation in general. Why is the immediate reaction "I don't like this so I must silence it"?

Very bizarre behavior from people that I normally respect the opinion of.
