Guys this game is amazing! The swipe to shoot mechanic is inspired! Shoot em ups have been the bane of my life due to not being ideal on touch screens but this completely fixes all this. I have been playing metal slug all week (defense made me long for the real thing!) and the whole time I just kept thinking how such a great game was wasted by bad controls! Anyone who has played cave story needs this beaut! Plus, this is a chance for all us loud mouthed F2P haters to put our money where our mouths are! 5 dollars for a IAP free premium 2-3hour gaming experience is money well spent!
Quite a few (but managable) things to get used to in this game... No quick change to the left/right, it has that momentum. While in air, directions changing is not possible (just a tiny little bit) Jumping feels floaty (press longer for big jumps) Shooting button will stick to the chosen side (left/right/up) Bars on the left and right side of the screen (very pity), though the control bar uses the whole screen But...despite all this, it has so much charme and i do adore this game, since the controls work otherwise very well. Throws me back in time in a good sense. I would recommend this only to people who aren't afraid of spending another five bucks and/or a fast price drop. Edit: i'm only three levels in, so no idea how long it will last...
Agreed, there are a few things that take a little getting used to, but once it clicks the controls are great! It's deffo a shame that the game screen doesn't got the whole screen, but that disappointment barely lasted a few seconds, once I started playing the charm just wins you over like you said! I hope the price doesn't drop quickly as we need to do all we can to get this dev making more ios games of this quality in future! Hell we can even pray for a cave story port one day!!
For what reason have you given this a 1 star? Because you need to do the latest update on your phone?!
In terms of replay value, there's a new game plus and a boss rush. There are areas and secrets you find on second playthroughs that you couldn't access on your first playthrough. There's also the challenge of speedrunning or beating the game with no upgrades Some more impressions from another forum
Glad you told me. That's an honest mistake. Must have accidentally pressed it when I've been checking this thread.
Ha! Cool! That 1 star was really killing the games rating!! Couldn't work out how anyone could rate this one star lol!
This sounds great. I'm at stage 6 and my gametime shows 3+ hours. Died a few (boss) times here, did a bit "exploring" there (=you can go back in the same stage and kill the monsters again to gain some extra money). I know, it all depends on how you play the game (rush/skills/etc.) but at this moment, i only can recommend this brilliant "blast from the past" ! Off topic: sunday releases belong to the past or next wednesday/thursday ?
I hesitated like 5 seconds to buy this because of the side bars, and after a minute of playing it I didn't care anymore about that, graphics are exceptional with a lot of animations, variety and excellent chip tune music and sounds. Then I got used to the controls -is an awkward setup but after a minute it becomes natural-. Instead of changing direction with the arrows, you do it with the shooting slider, which works very well. And its like Slayin, where controls are down there well put and dont interfere with gameplay. Kero Blaster is action packed, lots of enemies to shoot down while advancing on a fun level design, many many different types of baddies to blast and an arsenal of weapons at your disposal that you unlock after beating a boss. Sometimes when enemies die, the leave a coin behind, or after exploring (its minimal but its there) a tiny bit you discover a chest full of them, and the serve for the awesome purpose of upgrading your weapons. It really feel like the platformer version of Spellsword, where you upgrades your weapons to turn the tide of the battle, becoming more powerful. Its awesome. And there is no IAP at all. Pure premium. You unlock the old way, by playing. Really awesome platformer. And about the 7.1 thing, I applaud the developers decision to do this. 7.1 the jailbreak exception, impossible to pirate, so if you want it you buy it. Also, having 7.0 installed, its pretty suspicious to not install 7.1 unless you are jailbroken... Its cheaper than on Steam too.
I spend a lot of money every week on apps. All because I'm jailbroken doesn't mean I'll pirate apps I'm just surprised this is the first game which is 7.1 only Not suspicious one bit. I love emulators that's all
I forgot this to say that. Kero Blaster is also tough, you have 3 lives and there are checkpoints every screen, but the action is so intense and the boss battles you die often. Many different baddies with different abilities to shoot down. When you die you go to the hospital and go back to the beginning of the level. There is plenty of game here, I am on after the third boss and played for a while now, accounting deaths too. Highly recommended. I know you are an emulator fan, and have many emulators and such, we talked about it, wasn't against you, at all. Sorry for the confusion. Only saying that for the 7.0 thing and piracy, something I dont like.
So I imagine that some people will ignore this game because it's not Universal or perhaps because it requires 7.1. Those people are missing out Perhaps one can appreciate Kero Blaster more if they know its pedigree. Studio Pixel was the developer behind the classic Cave Story. Those who don't play PC games may have never heard of the game, but Cave Story is one of the indie games, one of the early games that helped set the foundation for today's thriving indie scene. While Cave Story was a sprawling expansive Metroidvania, Kero Blaster is more focused, a level based action-platformer. You progress through the varied stages, unlocking new and powerful weapons as you defeat bosses, blowing away a wide range of enemies to collect coins and upgrade your weapons. More focused does not mean easier. Kero Blaster may not be the longest game, but that brevity is a positive. No filler, no padding, and made to be replayed. Kero Blaster is a challenge, as you evade projectiles and enemies and hazard, timing jumps, using the best weapon at the right times. Between the difficulty, the variety, the replay value, the cute pixel style, fun story, nice soundtrack, Kero Blaster has a lot going for it, but perhaps the best is how well it controls. The touch controls just feel tight and responsive and finely tuned. The shooting controls are smart; rather than tapping a button or using a stick, you have a slider that locks in your shooting angle, allowing you to fire continuously while focusing on movement and evasion. A polished experience void of IAP and offering fun hectic action and perfect touch controls, New Game +, boss rush, speedrunning, personal challenges like no upgrades runs, Kero Blaster is worth well the $5 price.
I'm sure it's well worth it and I would buy it instantly if it wasn't for 7.1 (I'm not losing all my emulators for one game) Just still surprised its 7.1 that's all. If a Gameloft blockbuster was 7.1 I could understand but this seems to be one of the first 7.1 games which surprises me. Be interesting to see if there'll be more in the upcoming weeks Game does look great though
