Great tip, thanks. I did finally match 3 top tier pop units and got the superman dude who attacks the alien. That's pretty cool. Yep, you're right. And then I did get the 3 other secret weapons and read that if you get them all on the board at once they form whatever unit. I did that and didn't see them merge into said unit. NOW I understand that they activate that first secret weapon you get in Taiwan. Sheesh. Holy, mother of.... This changes everything (after I'm well more than halfway through the game!!). I can't believe I didn't know (i.e. that I wasn't told by the friggin' game) this from the start! It makes it easier in a way but it also means you should strategize about which tile to move based on what will replace it.
