Ah, that's cool to know. (I've been trying to get into the .dat files of my Kairosoft games for a while...any advice on that?)

You're right. It's mostly a psychological thing. I like the portal mechanic. I like having a magical door that warps me instantly to another world. Plus, I've spent so much time getting those portals...it'd be a shame to waste them. And...they look cool. :D

I can still swap between worlds using the Pause>Exit>New World mechanic. I can still use Standalones in conjunction with my Adventure home. I'll just also be able to have pretty shiny portals on my home world.

Decided to move my home base from an adventure Terra to stand-alone Seth, moving all this crap takes forever.

In an adventure game is it smart to put your bed/spawn point next to your warp portal? I haven't done much experimentation with warping, just unlocked Seth recently.

I think I'm going to change my mining strategy from mostly wandering around aimlessly to digging straight down, putting a ladder going all the way up, and then begin to travel outward from there. Otherwise it takes forever to get back to the surface if I ever need to go up.

Pixbits are some pretty amazing devs (particularly when you consider it's just two dudes). The first game launched Nov 2011. Between then and Feb 2013, 15 months, they released 12 updates. In that time they added new biomes, completely rejiggered cooking, added farming, tweaked controls in response to feedback, put out seasonal content (Halloween, Oktoberfest, Christmas, Valentines) with new drops and recipes, etc., and nothing but the graphical whimsy of new IAP hats was ever kept from anyone. That's a lot of mileage for $2.99 (which they stuck to from day one and never had a sale or free promotion).

The only reason they stopped updating it was they got heavy into developing JJX and in that interim Apple put them "out of business" since to update further at this point would cause them to break compatibility with older hardware.

This is some interesting food for thought I'm going to have to play with. I'm on Seth now and I am being mobbed by golems, magic chucking zombies, and missile firing scorpions left and right. I am at the bottom of the world, which is what I thought was going on, but maybe you're onto something (which if true would probably indicate a bug, but that's another matter :p)

I've never tried any games like this but with the rave reviews I decided to try JJX, and I wasn't disappointed. I now am hooked and spend countless hours doing things, just goty portal pieces but trying to upgrade my armor and weapons. I'm not quite sure how multiplayer works yet and I'm not sure if I'm even playing it right but it sure is fun to pass time at work with. Hopefully the wiki will help out soon when it fills up.

Anyone else not hearing any of the in game music? Been playing for many hours and so far I've only heard the menu music and a single tune during adventure mode. Playing on the iPod touch 5G.

I think several pages back, someone mentioned that they didn't hear any game music on the iPod, but then heard it when they played on an iPad. So this might be a bug. You might try emailing the devs.

I'm paraphrasing here, but Jack himself has spoken on this subject and it's not coming any time soon, don't hold your breath. They have no intention of adding it until Apple gets their act together and fixes the devkit for it OR Jack gets so bored of doing other things for the game that he decides to make a mountain of work for himself fixing all the things trying to get iCloud to work with JJ will break.

It's not a bug, it works just fine on the 5G touch (it's what I use). The music, ambient tracks, etc., only play at random. Sometimes you might have nothing at all.

Additionally, you may not be aware you've overridden the music/ambience during a gaming session. JJ and JJX have a weird "audio priority" quirk. Whichever process is launched first takes priority. So, if you launch JJX then the music app, JJX will override you trying to play your own music. If you launch the music app then JJX, your music will play fine and none of JJX's music or ambience will play... and if you later stop your music playing, JJX's doesn't come back until you kill both processes and launch JJX first.

That was me. It comes and goes on the iPad and is rarely playing. Most of the time it's just silent aside from sound effects.

It looks like night makes a difference. At night monsters spawn regardless of how many torches you use. Or maybe I'm too close to the surface... (?)

So I think on Seth you are forced to use torches every 3 blocks and use a bed at night, whereas on Terra (at least in upper levels) every 5 blocks is sufficient.

Hey! Hey guys! I think I found the next 2D Castlevania... It was in Junk Jack X all along!

I thought that was intentional? I remember being impressed with it on JJ. I play most of my games in long, several hour bursts -- ALL music gets annoying after a while.

On the other hand, I'm not a fan of bringing my own music into games, and I really like JJX's music (particularly some of the Seth and Magmar music...the Magmar music has a touch of Chrono Trigger to it, though I think that's mostly the whistling wind effect reminding me of the 'future' overworld theme).

I thought I was being so smart about digging one column straight down and putting a ladder going straight up, I was doing it wrong. I needed to make two columns or there would be no place for my torches, so I first dug straight down and put only torches, figuring when I hit the bottom I would dig another column straight up for the ladder.

Unfortunately I died and couldn't get back to where my stuff dropped, cause I had one long empty shaft with only torches, no way to get back down there from the top. Whoops! I lost so many minerals and jewels, fuuuuu-

It also helps if you build a wooden platform every so often so you can go down quickly (if you ran out of ladders) and prevent your one super tall ladder from breaking in one go in case you break the block underneath (or part of the ladder...)

Trap doors also stop the dreaded "ladder to the top of the world collapse" syndrome, as well as stop the rain of spawned mobs on your head while you're climbing.
