Its rediculous how much more memory retina devices need. There is no lag on an iPhone 3GS with the sunset thing. On a retina iPhone 4, it lags a lot. It has been really fixed in the next update that is currently in the testing phase but should be live very soon hopefully.
Then Terraria might be the game for me, afterall. But.. you say its a lot easier than its PC counterpart? .. Maybe I should get Junk Jack X, afterall. Then maybe get Terraria for the PC, if I still wish so.
Well, for what it's worth, the JJ games have never been particularly challenging. They're more about the exploring and building than any sort of challenge. Terraria on iOS is still harder than JJX if that's the experience you're going for. The big change between PC and mobile is spawn rate of mobs is down and spawn rate of objects is up, but don't let that scare you off. However, if you're looking to play the Terraria as the lead and original dev envisioned the game, you're stuck with the PC version anyhow as all the other platforms are licensed products built from the state Terraria PC was in early 2012.
Unless you plan on buying the PC version, go with Terraria on mobile. From your feedback I think you'll like it more. It doesn't feel dumbed down to me, but I've never played the PC version so it doesn't make a difference. It's seriously a fun game you can lose yourself in. JJX is great too, just different.
Yeah I'm playing on an iPhone 4 and never had any issues with the first JJ. I guess it must be due to the retina resolution... Looking forward to the update if it fixes it! The slowdown drives me up the wall!
Awesome. It's no big deal right this moment, but I'll be spending a lot of time above ground once I figure out how I want to start building my palace/s. I think I'll start on a fresh new Adventure mode Alba. I really do like that world. I might build a lair on Magmar, too. It's got a pretty awesome background going on there.
You can only start on Terra for Adventure, but you can bring your portal pieces with you and just hop to wherever. Once you've unlocked the planets, unless you're trying some sort of personal challenge (e.g. how quickly can you start from scratch on Terra and reach Magmar), there is no reason to make anything but stand alone maps.
Terraria PC is getting another huge update soon and is built for PC first so it would make more sense to get it on PC and JJX on your mobile.
How to place torches the best way Maybe this has been discussed before, but I did some testing and found out the following: 1) Torch effective light radius Code: ..x.. .xxx. xxTxx .xxx. ..x.. 2) Monsters only spawn on unlit space above a block That basically means the most economic way of horizontally placing torches is to place them on the ground, no matter how high the ceiling, every 5 blocks: Code: B12T1234T1234T12B BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB It was just a quick test though - maybe there's even more to it.
Yes, what I meant was: I will start a new Adventure world (universe?), go to its Alba, and start my palace building there. :] I've ravaged the Albas of Home and Loothome, my current Adventure worlds, and I'd like something a bit more pristine for my home. I thought the devs were completely finished with Terraria? Aren't they now working on bigger game projects?
They *were* done, which is when they sold development rights for other platforms to 505. The main guy changed his mind and started development again.
Any particular reason why you're doing an adventure class map instead of a stand alone? I mean, I know why I'll probably start a second adventure map set one of these days, just wondering your reasons
I started my home base world as an adventure game cause I didn't see any benefit to doing stand alone, and just wanted to keep my options open. If I wanted to make my base on a planet other than Terra I would have gone stand alone, but at the time I hadn't unlocked any other worlds yet.
What I'm getting at here is that when you have an Adventure map set, you will, at some point, wind up with 5 different worlds contained within that map set. However, you can only easily travel to one of them (whatever the last one was you saved from) at any given time. To reach the remaining four worlds you will have to travel to wherever the portal is, and, depending on how you've laid things out and where you want to go, travel to another portal, zap through that, and so on. So, since the only difference between an Adventure *world* (as opposed to the whole linked map set) and a stand alone world of the same type is the spawning and function of portal pieces, unless you need/want to farm up more portal pieces or you have a specific reason to want to play with the portal functions, it makes more sense to choose the stand alone format so you can't "lose" it and can delete it without affecting any other worlds.
In garden news, I found a peculiar plant called a Magic Bean. Description in spoiler. Spoiler So far it seems to work like a ladder. It's grown taller than my house (about 12 blocks tall?) and doesn't seem to be stopping. Anyone else found one of these? Does it just grow on up to the invisible wall in the sky? Also, I made my first bottomless chest! I'll probably use it for garden produce. They're about to overflow my 4-page Mithril Chest, and I know I'm missing some seeds (melon, blackberry, lettuce...) No particular reason, it just feels right. If it turns out I don't want to spread out from the world my base is in, I'll only have spent a little extra effort. If it turns out I do want to spread out from my base, I'll have saved myself the effort of moving from a stand-alone map to an adventure map... Unless portals can be established on stand-alones. I meant to test that. I know portal pieces don't spawn there, but do they still work?
Nope. If you look at the save files, stand alone worlds are just a single .dat file within the "Worlds" folder with the name of whatever you named it, they cannot by their nature have any link to another world. An adventure save has a parental .dat file and has it's own worlds folder of the same name as the parental .dat file, and in that folder are each of the world type .dat files named for the planet type (e.g. Terra.dat, Seth.dat, Alba.dat). Not sure how that's supposed to work Even within the context of Adventure mapsets, each world is independent and has its own save file. Their only link is that you can hop between them via portals, which is functionally no different (yet less flexible) than hopping to any number of worlds via Pause->Exit->Worlds->select other world. You can expand to any number of stand alone worlds with your stuff just fine. You get a hypothetically infinite number of worlds for breathing room in this game. The *only* difference for the Adventure class is spawning portal pieces, functioning portals, and the *lack* of the ability to access all 5 of the Adventure mapset's worlds at will without traveling via portals. EDIT: I'm not trying to argue lest someone assume that , I'm just trying to either A) understand for myself why anyone would ever make a second Adventure save that didn't involve either seeking or playing with portal pieces or B) making sure people understand how not special the Adventure saves are vs. stand alone. I figure either I must be missing something or the people making more than one are
Unless you're like me and don't play PC games. Than it wouldn't make sense to miss Terraria because you may one day have a PC set up to play a game you may or may not be interested in playing still. Just saying. Where the freak are the portal pieces? Sorry I'm way behind on this game I know. Terraria and a few other unnamed games have taken my attention.
