Don't be stupid, the point in having items is that items themselves do something, not that they leave some kind of other-worldly game-changing essence once destroyed. It's different to having separate saves you can warp to, because that is entirely optional. This is forced, it makes no sense, it's not how any other game in the genre does it, and it goes against the basic concept of "place item, item has effect" that everything else in the game adheres to.

Your nostalgia from playing the previous game seems to be limiting your acceptance of change.

hey, I did not misunderstand you for pointing out MidianGTX's points. I have absolutely no issue with that, you were just stating your opinions and that was understandable.

instead, your arrogance was shown from your sentence about the Bed tactic being "plain stupid" and not accomplishing anything. and also saying it is all "in your heads". not being able to relate to the tactic doesn't mean its okay to diminish the idea and make it seem as if people who use it are less superior. you don't find it useful, OKAY, but people do. I'm not targeting you at all, but your words.

No, I'm still waiting for an objective explanation why it's an issue beyond you claiming it is and "supporting" it with some metaphysical claim that objects have to have purpose or your chakras are busted out of alignment or something if the spawn point isn't inextricably tied to a bed rather than a grid coordinate.

Scenario now: People can easily and routinely carry a bed around with them and reset spawn points willy nilly, pick up the bed, spawn point remains. Consequence: all of two people in the world so far as I know get their feathers ruffled.

Scenario after spawn point is inextricably tied to the last bed activated: People who like this method carry around a stack of cloth and wood, neither of which are scarce, and simply craft beds every 10 minutes and reset their spawn points close to where they're working. Consequence: all of two people in the world so far as I know still get their feathers ruffled because nothing has changed unless my facetious bent chakra statement above is closer to the truth than I thought when I wrote it ;)

Please, explain how the existing mechanic, present in the game since the beginning, is actually an issue beyond it offending your sensibilities, then explain how tying the spawn point to beds does anything to alleviate the issue.

And, for the record, just like multiple worlds, it IS equally optional to use this, nothing is enforced. As I said, close to 2 years running never used it. Heck, I thought I'd jinxed myself from bragging as I got killed this afternoon near the bottom of Seth digging my initial mine shaft with no good way to get down to the bottom again short of the obvious long fall. Took a deep breath and using dirt blocks and careful jumping (and still had to restart from the spawn point at the bed on the surface multiple times when I screwed it up) made it back down in time to get my stuff back :)

Well last night I wound up spending half my gold in order to craft a gold hammer and key, to open a chest. I think it was worth it, I got like 4 silver weapons, a yellow Mario hat, some kind of rare artifact, a gold ingot, and a bunch of other stuff.

Just reading about people using trapdoors and ladders while mining, I might be doing it wrong. I need to read up on mining strategies, I just pretty much dig around, dig up, dig down, build a dirt block if I need to get higher, nothing organized.

Been playing on iPad, the extra screen area is nice to have vs playing on iPod Touch.

C.Hannum: I've given you reasons. Either you're not intelligent enough to understand or you're refusing to listen, for the reason I just gave. The fact that your best argument against my opinion is that it's either not important, not an issue or in my head is amazingly arrogant and only goes to prove you don't really have a legitimate argument. If it's really such a non-issue to you then shut up and let other people make their points without coming back to demean every opinion that goes against how YOU think the game should be. Your ability to hold a respectable debate is non-existent, and for that reason, I'm done replying to your pathetic and ignorant comments. Not to mention, I was never talking directly to you about the subject anyway.

I could do a blow by blow summation of your reasons and why they aren't objective, but I'll save everyone, including myself, the pain. The matter is far too trivial to continue arguing with someone not interested in refuting points but rather resorting to a string of ad hominems.

I understand you feel "it doesn't make sense" that the spawn point is actually independent from the bed. But that has no functional effect on the game beyond being able to conserve 3 pieces of cloth and 2 pieces of wood per spawn relocation. That's what your little tirade against me has been about: whether or not moving your spawn point should cost 3 pieces of cloth and 2 pieces of wood per move.

Anyhow, I'm out of this as well. I'm reasonably certain it's not going to be changed so why waste my time trying to appeal to you to use common sense when time and changelogs will reveal which p.o.v. was correct.

I know, right? At least they've stopped AOE insulting.

In other news, I found 4 Magmar portal blocks within my first maybe 30 minutes of digging through Xeno. O_O Bizarre! I'm not even ready to leave Xeno yet! I've only encountered a few biomes, and barely gotten any loot! Kinda wondering what to do with the extra portal block. I guess I could pass it onto someone else in multiplayer. Anyone interested?

    Basic Question

Do I need to find the recipes to be able to make the items?

I have iron ect, a forge, a workbench, an anvil but I can't find the option to be able to make any iron implements like an iron pickaxe or sword.

    Thanks in advance,

    K

If you're using simple crafting, you need the recipes. If you're using the standard crafting method, you can make anything as long as you use the right pattern. Crafting something via the grid also unlocks the recipe if you didn't already have it.

AOE insulting, I like that term, I'll have to file that one away :D

To the general audience, I apologize for being an ass. I have a hard time letting go of arguments, no matter how trivial, when it appears to me that the other side is clinging to an unsupported platform. So the Junk Jack series bed doesn't function like the bed in Minecraft: that's not broken, that's a design choice, one that was never even considered mildly controversial until a week ago.

    -----

Shoot, I just finally went for moving my activities to Seth when I started encountering things I can't break with my few, precious gold tools on Terra, I'm awful at moving on. I'm unable to let go of the idea that there's so many things still undiscovered. My worlds look like a team of OCD ants cleaned them out when I'm done done, with perfectly horizontal tunnels 3 blocks high from top to bottom. This five different planets thing is going to kill me.

Playing this on my iPad for a 5 hour flight to Washington DC was priceless! My iPad 3 battery must not be good but lasted at least the whole flight!

The IAP craft & mining hat were great purchases. I finally figure out how to make iron tools. Unfortunately died twice from massive falls. A bit perplexed that I didn't find any portals yet...?

After viewing the map zoomed out I am amazed at how large the game size is with so much to explore.

    Mining strategies?

Do people go straight down, weave a bit etc...

I finally got smart a d started to use the torches every 15 blocks or so which helps to see the map in the zoom out mode...

    Absolutely loving this game

They are an ingredient in a number of crafts, mainly for the trinket slot.

I always do a sawtooth pattern zigging back and forth after a good distance so I don't go too far left or right. I don't mess with ladders or trapdoors but that's just me.

Yes, you need to have the recipe page, if you have Simple crafting turned on. But you can turn Simple crafting off, see the recipe on the JJ wiki, and make items manually.

MidianGTX posted a mining strategy that I found helpful. I am quoting it here for reference.

When digging horizontally I place torches every 3rd or 4th block. The idea is that whenever I zoom out in map, not a single block should remain dark. Kind of like what is described by C.Hannum here.

Amazing. I need to refine my methods asap.

To the expert miners who scour every inch of the underground, what do you keep and what do you do with it? I've been saving pretty much everything I find and putting it in chests, but I'll probably never need/use 99% of it. I'm used to games where you save all this junk and then sell off what you don't want, so there is incentive to collect everything you find, but in this game you don't sell (which is nice cause with no selling it feels more like adventuring/exploration than work).

I have multiple chests as well and am trying to organize the kind of items that are in chests by area. Farm, stones, building stuff, etc...

What is the next level for a higher chest? How do I craft it? I currently only have the original chest that only holds 9 items I think?

I found the following bug when transferring my iPad to iPhone save file!

The iPad has an extra "hot spot" or place where we have instant access to our selected tools. When transferring from iPad to iPhone the last (bottom) item in iPad doesn't transfer to iPhone 5 and the item doesn't appear in the inventory.

    I've lost that item.

Please advise... Am I missing anything in the iPhone 5 version such as more " hotspots" or is this a bug?

I will try in the morning to re transfer the file with the last iPad slot left blank.
