Alright, thanks. I might give this a look when I'm done with Terraria. The simple crafting definitely looks like it should help as well.
Someone on the forum mentioned the following. (I apologize for not noting who I just copied and pasted this and texted myself the information for future reference. I haven't found any portals and am trying to understand if the portal is in a chest as opposed to is automatically found in the open when digging? Also I have come across chests that I can't open. Each time I switch tools it comes up with something like needs stronger tool... Please advise, the Instructions from a forum user is below. Instructions PORTAL What you need(For finding portal pieces in Terra): Iron pickaxes or higher Iron shovel or higher Iron hammer or higher(So then you can break the portal chest) TONS of torches(Depends how long it take ps for you to find the 3 pieces)
If you go into the tutorial, on the 3rd page there is a section for portals. It shows you what the portal chests look like. If that isn't what you've found, then check to see if the chests you found have padlocks. If so, they will be a certain color, and you need that color (bronze, iron, silver) or higher to unlock the chest. Then you can bust it open with a hammer. Also, if the chest is silver or gold, you'll need that type of hammer to open it.
Thanks! I'll check out the tutorial again! I've got a 5 hour flight to Washington DC tomorrow and will get to play this non stop!
That sounds awesome. How far have you dug down? I found my portal pieces among lava pits and the library/prison biomes. Another tip is that when you do find a portal piece start digging horizontally right or left. It seems that the pieces are usually at the same depth, just spread out.
I guess I really don't "know" how far I have dug down... The most exciting I have found appears to be an old mind shaft with a cart, explosives, and metal chains. I am using simple crafting and don't appear to have the ability to make a lot yet although I have a lot of items. I definitely don't know what to do with the leaves, bamboo, etc... (Clearly farming but not interested at this to e...?) I have two keys wood and iron maybe??? I seem to be list regarding digging since I use a torch to see and usually am not using any tools but my hands with the torch...? Thanks for any advice. Feel free to PM if you want in case my questions are dumb and basic!
If you can dig without tools, you're not very deep and it's taking you longer to break each block than it should do.
Yeah, sounds like you have a ways to go yet. Try making stone tools, that will help you get farther down, where you can find better metals. Then you'll need a forge and anvil to make the metal tools. The JJ wiki shows some basic recipes, like the stone tools. You can turn off simple crafting in order to make stone tools, and then turn it back on, and then you'll have the recipes!
Thanks MidianGTX & InkyTheGhost! Seems like I've only scratched the surface of this awesome game. I was wondering why I could be holding a torch and still be digging down. I kept trying to figure out why the tools were all that necessary since holding the torch and digging down seemed easy. To use any item I can just hot link it (or whatever it is called) and click it. I can't seem to drop items like leaves etc... I tried throwing a snow ball by hit link and tapping on a spot and it worked fine. Is the only way to get rid of items such as leaves is to use the garbage icon? Also if I have a key is it a one time use item?
When you open up your inventory you can drag items out of the bag to drop them, it'll show a red arrow when it's in the right place. Careful though, it's easy to instantly walk over them and pick it all up again when you resume. Dragging items to the trash can (or tapping the trash first and then selecting all the items) is a more reliable way to remove junk. And yeah, keys are one-time, but I always seem to find more keys than chests and you can also craft them.
Found my 3rd Seth Portal piece, was basically all the way down by bedrock. The first piece was pretty close to surface, the 2nd about middle, and the 3rd at the bottom and also fairly spread out. Very excited about it, really liking the Egyptian theme on Seth. Do you guys normally build a new house or base on each world or just use your original one on Terra? I like what I have done with my house on Terra but now I know so much more and can make a way better one I think. I just hate that I can't easily move the biome decorations I have already placed.
I don't seem to have unlocked any hammer but stone... quite a few chests I couldn't open - I think I found a portal one, I don't have the game open to check the tutorial picture, but I died before I could get back to the surface and raegquit. Well, raeg-generated a new world, anyway, I lost a hell of a lot of stuff and woke up in the wrong house to have enough time to get back and pick up my things, as I hadn't built a second bed. Anyway, might be a dumb question but if I have simple crafting turned on, will the other sort still work? Can I just lay out the pieces that I can tell would make an iron or silver hammer or whatever and that'll work exactly the same even if I don't have the recipe?
I was forced to build a small shelter right next to the portal, because the mobs on Seth completely swarm me within 3 seconds. For some reason it's always night when I go there. My house on Terra is pretty lousy, built only for practical reasons. I'm thinking that eventually I'll make a new world specifically for my "real" house. As has been mentioned, that opens up the opportunity to simply exit a world, and drop off items on the new home world.
No you can't, that's the downside. It's the reason I turned simple crafting off, because it arguably makes the game more complicated when you're limited in what you craft like that.
When you open up the next planet does it automatically creat another save file? QUOTE=Gilgilad;2962311]Found my 3rd Seth Portal piece, was basically all the way down by bedrock. No and yes. Each planet in the chain of all five types for an Adventure game does get its own file but that is under the hood. You still access wherever you're at from the same slot in the game.
I'm thinking about turning easy craft off since I feel like I have tons of items but am unable to use them... My fear is that it seems difficult to know or memorize the patterns to create the new item. I don't mind placing the items in the right order to craft the new time but definitely can't memorize the pattern. If I bout the craft iap will it show me the right patterns to use etc... Also I am assuming items in chests are not able to be used for crafting but instead I need to move them into my inventory and out of the chests.
No one of normal mental capability is memorizing all of them, but it's easy enough to hold in your head for the time it takes to set up the craft. You do memorize the things you craft all the time, through repetition if nothing else. The key reason to use standard crafting, in addition to the unlocking some things faster if you want, is that the time it takes to craft things through simple craft is roughly equal to the time it takes to set up a recipe on the grid once, and for something you only craft rarely like a piece of armor or a bed, that's no big deal. However, the lost time for things you craft frequently does add up: I can craft 150 torches in a matter of seconds without doing anything other than opening my inventory and moving two things then hammering the craft button as fast I can press it. Yes, no crafting from chests.
