Have found 40+ tin lumps but I can't forge them into ingots so any ideas what I can do with them?

So far, no issues on iPad 2 running the 5th beta... time will tell, but I would anticipate no issues.

And this is why I back up to my computer regularly. This game is very backup friendly, even explicitly using the iTunes file sharing interface on computers, although restoring does take iFunbox or other explorer program from what I can tell: iTunes won't put the files back where they belong.

This game needs iCloud support asap.
Can't even think about of what happened to derprozess. 30 hours wasted, ugh. :(

Dang that sucks, hopefully you can get it resolved and you'll be back to playing this (aside from what you experienced) awesome game.

Also does anyone know what ethereal essence does?

Agreed, it does suck , but these developers are really good with getting things fixed and getting new content out - but anyone worrying about the 5 dollar price well 30 hours of playtime is about 17 cents and hour :)

Still sucks to have invested all that time and to lose everything. I'm going to back mine up regularly.

I guess this bears repeating: http://forum.pixbits.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=13324&p=208016&hilit=icloud#p208016

iCloud is unlikely to come any time soon since Jack himself is apparently not willing to try and put it in there given iCloud's current state and then chase down all the stuff it breaks, and Apple has shown great reluctance to fix their own crap, preferring to shift the costs onto devs by forcing them into workarounds.

The game came with the ability to back up, so instead of wishing for iCloud - something that I have yet to see go smoothly for any dev using it the first time, with the usual result being data loss (oh sweet irony) - people should take a little initiative and use the tools already provided.

I'm really sorry for this, this rare issue happened to just few people out of many but it is enough to feel my fail, I can assure you.

I managed to rewrite most of the save procedures to be safer and less prone to this in next update. I actually investigated the issue thoroughly together with XsX and found no answer in my code. The only suspect I have, since by trying to reproduce it by stressing the game, is happened like 2-3 times out of 1000 is that, even if iCloud is set to off for the game, its background thread locks the file randomly in certain situations and this is the consequence.

I can feel your frustration, and when this is caused by something developed by me, you can imagine that empathy transfers this frustration to me too. :(

Just to explain how much rare it is: we have something like 30 beta testers that played beta for something like ~40000 minutes and it never happened once. That's why we didn't see it before official release.

Combine tin lumps with copper lumps to make bronze. I think you can use bronze to make nails, which in turn can be melted into iron.

I'm sorry to hear what happened to you. It really does suck to invest all that time into something and then to lose all that progress..

If you do decide to give the game another try, send me a message and I'll send you a world/player file that has a bunch of nice items to start you off with ;)

How not to hose yourself in (the current) JJX:

    1. Back up your worlds and player data regularly. This does require the use of a computer but does not require that you manage your i-Device with a computer.

Note: I am assuming the use of a Windows or Mac computer. I have no idea what you'd do under Linux, but if you're a *nix user, you're probably tech saavy enough to figure out the equivalent methods and programs needed ;)

    Method A:
    - If you do use iTunes, when you have your i-Device connected to iTunes, go to the device's "tab", select "Apps", scroll down a little and you'll see a File Sharing section on the page.
    - Select Junk Jack X in the Apps portion of that on the left side. You will then see 2 folders displayed on the Documents portion of that on the right, "players" and "worlds".
    - Shift select both of those folders and click on the "Save to..." button underneath. Browse to where you want to keep your backed up data and create a New Folder and name it something useful, e.g. "2013.09.04 - JJX backup", select that folder with a single click then hit the "Select Folder" button. iTunes will copy the "players" and "worlds" folders into the selected folder on your computer.

    Method B:
    - If you don't use iTunes or want to use the program you'll need to restore progress anyhow, launch iFunBox with your device connected to your computer.
    - Choose the "Managing App Data" tab, there you will see a section labeled "iTunes File Sharing", select Junk Jack X from the apps shown.
    - You will get a new window showing the "players" and "worlds" folders on the right, shift select both and press the "Copy To PC" button at the top.
    - Browse to where you want to keep your backed up data and create a New Folder and name it something useful, e.g. "2013.09.04 - JJX backup", open that folder and press the "Save" button. iFunBox will copy the "players" and "worlds" folders into the selected folder on your computer.

1B. In case of the worst case scenario and you need to restore from your back up:
    - Make sure JJX is fully killed from the taskbar on your device if necessary.
    - Launch iFunBox and connect your iDevice to the computer with your backup.
    - Select the "iFunBox Classic" tab, there you will see a section labeled "App File Sharing" in the file tree on the left, expand if necessary and select Junk Jack X from the apps shown. On the right, you will see the "players" and "worlds" folders.
    - In your computer's explorer, browse to where the backed up "players" and "worlds" folders are, you can drag and drop them right into the right panel of iFunBox's "AppFileSharing" and they will be copied onto your device.
    - That's it, disconnect from iFunBox and launch JJX, you should see the restored player and worlds.

    -----

    2. Do not host multiplayer games on any world that wasn't recently backed up or is otherwise disposable. There is a rare bug when playing with a world in multiplayer may lock the data file and render it unreadable by JJX. Still, probably the main reason to follow this rule is that there are, unfortunately, people out there who's idea of fun is ruining your fun and they will seek to destroy your creations and/or kill you (causing you to lose your inventory with them likely stealing it).

    -----

    3. Do not take part in multiplayer games with untrusted individuals with anything in your inventory that is not easily replaced. There are griefers out there hosting games with the express purpose to kill the joining player and take their stuff (and some joining for similar reasons). Relatedly, if playing in a multiplayer game with an untrusted individual and you find something rare, place it in a quickslot instead of your main inventory so you won't drop it on death.

    -----

    4. Save often, JJX only writes to the data files when you pause the game, so pause it every so often, particularly right after you find something good.

    Um.

I was literally 400 blocks deep in Seth and I had loads of salt sulfur silver diamond sapphire ruby emerald tools keys and coals. I went to place a block but accidentally swiped and I fell to my death.

Although I don't understand all the technical issues iCloud has I have to say it works fairly well for the few games I've tried it on including x-com and bastion. Clearly not all universal games offer it but it is typically user friendly for us non technical folks!

Another idea could be maybe the ability for us to upload & download files? For example, I heard that Eden Builder??? Not sure if this is the right name allows a user to upload and download other worlds so anyone can explore another created world.

That option might be fun for this game as well especially as people create cool worlds etc...

Really enjoyed playing this game, as I've never
gotten into a Minecraft-like and this one sucked me in. After playing for a few hours it started crashing when I'd attempt to craft, which was disheartening. I deleted and reinstalled, which fixed the issue and enabled me to play longer than before. However, I'm having the same issue again and I'm really upset about it - I've become vey invested and initially bought the game just because a friend wanted to try multiplayer. Since I've amassed a great deal of resources I am unwilling to delete again, but am hoping for a patch soon. Pixbits - I'm using an IPhone 4S if you have any questions.

This issue, as you explain it to us, should be already fixed for next version. It's a combination of "Simple Craft" and "Keep Last Slot Empty" settings both turned on with inventory full. Just try to disable "Keep Last Slot Empty" and tell us if it is fixed.

    This just happened to us.

    Playing local multiplayer.

I was hosting, and my iPad powered down.
    My gaming partner was disconnected.
She then tried to play on her own personal world, she was told that it didn't exit.

Here is hoping that this info will help with the debugging.

Once the kinks are ironed out, yes, it works very well, but I've followed enough threads regarding first time implementation from devs to say that the issues Jack alludes to are real and it only works out of the gate occasionally. If a dev doesn't happen to navigate perfectly through Apple's flaky implementation, people lose their data.

X-Com is a terrible example, btw. X-Com had the full force of 2K & Firaxis behind it, one of the bigger publishers in the world and a game studio with decades of experience and around 120 employees, Pixbits is 2 guys doing this out of love for gaming. (Supergiant, who did Bastion is only 7 guys, but they're also published by Warner Bros)

Yeah, Dropbox is supposed to be relatively easy to implement and would be a welcome addition for purposes of backing up. Unfortunately, it would also have the side effect of reintroducing infinite duping like happened in the original JJ.
