Only just discovered you can adjust the resolution & frame rate in the settings app. Top resolution on default 30fps runs just fine on XS Max and really makes a big difference to the visuals.
I've been a long time promoter of controller so support! Good to see more people getting behind it! Apple arcade will hopefully help, though I dislike the subscription model!!
Is anyone else seriously struggling with overheating? My iPhone XR capably handles everything I throw at it, but with Journey the screen goes dim within minutes. The battery usage is also wildly off the charts. I've played twice as much Sky and a good number of other intensive games this month and Journey has used heaps more battery than all of them despite only a few hours (dim) play. Also, having upgraded to iOS 13 beta 5 last night, I'm getting strange flickering in the corner in some scenes! Oh dear.
No problems for me (XS Max though) - are you using the default frame rate & resolution? If so, maybe tinker with them a bit?
I've tried everything in settings, yes, as well as uninstalling, resetting iPhone settings -- the whole shebang. I seem to be the only person so far to experience this! Guess I'll sit it out until there's an update.
Does anyone find it odd that the game is being utterly pilloried on the App Store reviews of late? Like, every review in the past 48 hours is negative, and rather oddly written? I know Journey is not for everyone but I've seldom seen a game attract such opprobrium, even abstract or minimal ones of similar vibe like The Witness or Inside. At the same time ... Sky has overwhelmingly glowing and positive reviews, and a truly enormous number of them (it has thousands of ratings, too, dwarfing something like Stardew Valley or any other big indie game despite only being out for a month). I woundered if these are fake reviews or some campaign or negative competitor marketing. The levels of love and hate don't anywhere near match the sentiment on here or Reddit, for instance. Conspiracy theory, me?
I know a lot of people I’ve heard from that know and love the game think the controls and camera are pretty awful on iOS. So that may be the reason for the negative reviews. I’ve held off because of it. Too many other games and might as well remember this best on my PS3.
The controls are a big problem for me. I want to like the game, but I just can’t deal with the controls.
For the life of me, I don’t understand what the big deal is about the controls. The camera is a bit loose (it helps to reduce the sensitivity) but movement is spot on for me, and the buttons are very responsive. And frankly, this game is really not about precision controls anyway. I could be missing something, but I don’t really get the complaints.
An iPhone XS and an iPad Pro 11 here, both are on iOS 13 Public Beta 5 and I'm also plagued with flickering. Happens on both devices on all resolutions and FPS settings. That's quite unfortunate, because I just adore the game since the PS3 times. Hope it gets fixed on either the next iOS beta or with the update of the game. Couldn't care less about the controller support, but this is really gamebreaking.
Yup. The overheating is my bugbear. My XR can't cope with 60fps at even the lowest resolution for more than ten minutes at a push. And while 30fps is passable, it does mar the experience.
Thanks for the heads up! I was holding off for the lack of controller support.. now it’s an insta buy I think!
Not sure if anyone else has played since the update, but as a non-controller user, there is no discernible difference -- no improvement in overheating (iPhone XR is baking hot within two minutes at 60fps) and glitches and flickering. Disappointing!
