Honestly dude I think the problem is you've spent year(s?) making an endless runner. When this popped up in our TouchArcade back-end chat I thought this game was already released, and I'm still not certain I understand the difference between the complete (?) game you guys released and the one you're working on which looks the same? It seems like the scope of Project Joan has spiraled out of control and if you need a $35,000 Kickstarter to finish it after this long... I'm not sure what to say.
Eli, the choise was to release it as a simple endless runner like John Mad Run where you collect coins and do relatively simple upgrades or to make it something more - we liked what people suggested, did what we could for our own money and left some things for KS in case it will be successful. If people won't vote by the money for those features, then it's fine. So, then it'll be another endless runner, like you are saying.
Adding weapons? Happybyte I am very excited for this game and have been waiting for it anxiously for months I will surely supported it I only have two questions: About how many weapons will their be in the final build? And What features will you add?
Thanks for asking and for the support As all this time we were focusing on weapons and gameplay, we have already 14 weapons types (28 with upgrades). You can see them under weapons section: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/433134262/joan-mad-run If KS succeeds we will add one more for backers, otherwise 14 will be all for the initial release. The list: 1) knife / katana / shashka - 100% complete 2) shotgun / super shotgun - 100% complete 3) pistol / golden pistol (increased fire rate) - 100% complete 4) AK-47 / AK-47 with grenade launcher - 100% complete 5) resizer / reducer - 100% complete 6) microwave gun / wide area MW gun - 99% complete (needs some fixes) 7) laser / laser flare - 100% complete 8) lighting gun / sphere lighting - 95% complete (needs nicer shader) 9) circular saw / saw thrower - 100% complete 10) freezing gun / freezing grenade - 100% complete 11) acid gun / headcrab launcher - 100% complete 12) imp gun / satanic gun - 100% complete 13) plasma sword - 95% complete (needs better shader) 14) mono-molecular lash / MM net - 45% complete (needs better visualization) For backers: 15) gravity gun / gravity grenage - 0% complete Gravity gun will pull matter into little singularity blackholes along the ray. Gravity grenade will have an effect like one from the "Thor 2" - from the screne when elves attack the Asgard palace and from the scene when Loki kills the damned. List of features, including that we need extra funding for: * single-player: - visuals are around 85% completion - gameplay needs tuning - UI is like 5-10% done, because it depends on gameplay and features, planned * multi-platform co-op multiplayer - multiplayer 0% done, planned - PC/Linux/Adroid depends on KS * two or more customizable characters - characters 100% done - customization UI 0% done, depends on KS * pet companions - 0% done, depends on KS * dozens of meticulously designed weapons – from shotgun and katana to monomolecular wire and satanic hoghead-gun - see above on each weapon * exquisite and spectacular death effects: cut, explode, burn, freeze, melt, incinerate, squeeze, send to hell and use even more unique torture methods - 90% done, needs fine touches, planned * weapon crafting workbench that will allow to create stunning weapon combos - 0% done, depends on KS * plethora of atmospheric locations with over 50 callous enemies to test your limits - 90.09% done (final boss and his level is left), planned * dynamic environments with shader-based light and particle effects - 80% done, planned * lots of secrets to unveil - secret levels/rooms/corridors, unique items and easter eggs - 0% done, planned * procedurally generated levels - 100% done * supports many game controllers - 0% done, planned * use your mobile phone as a wireless controller over WiFi - 0% done (but we have ready code in other games), planned * natively stream game video and audio to compatible TVs and media centers over network - 0% done (but we have ready code in other games), planned * play on desktop and on the go on PC/Mac/Linux/iOS/Android (progress synced across your computers and devices) - iOS/Mac, planned - PC/Linux/Android depends on KS * will support all US/EU/AP major languages (and yours if you help us translate) - 0% done, planned
Simple enemies will drop mostly coins and rarely some stuff like power-ups, ammo, guns that you don't have and so on. Bosses will drop significantly more in the same time. And, if we will make customization and armor things then they will rarely drop already customized, more powerful weapons and armor too.
Depends on funding, of course. We move fast more or less now on iOS. Money are needed to support other platforms and what I marked as "depends on KS". If would be more strict on what to do with Joan we would finish it already. But in that case it would have much less features.
Thank you for the breakdown I think you guys at Happybyte have great imagination and hopefully after the games release and if it's as successful as you hope, you can continue to add updates with more levels, weapons, enemies and bosses. We really want to squeeze your imagination jeje.
This is it. I see that this time KS is going to fail and we'll have to go this way, may be restart campaign some time. That is a bit sad - it could be much more fun if we could allow more features on the release.
We're commiting updates to our internal build almost everyday But, as we do it for our own money with less people assigned to the project it takes more time that it would.
Also, Joan shares the engine with John Mad Run - so, major engine updates and bug fixes are also committed to the app store - from there you can see that the latest update went live just a few days ago on Nov 8th.
If there's anyway a fan that has no game-development experience, or money, can help this get finished, let me know.lol
This, sir, will be the best game on Megadrive in 2014. Argh, more seriously, I wish there was a cartridge revival like there is a vinyl revival, your game would be in my collection!
