Oh world, what have you done to me? Is this really a ... "game like this" (you know what I mean) without any f2p shenanigans?!? And how much money must have been thrown at halfbrick to make them say yep, that's a deal? Aren't they missing out 'bigly'? Would love to see the communication that led to this being an arcade game. However, I have fun. Have a nice weekend everybody. squarezero likes this. ste86uk Well-Known Member May 9, 2012 6,774 1,000 113 #5 ste86uk, Aug 19, 2022 I played this early into the softlaunch, it’ll be interesting to see how it’s changed. Although I’m thinking it’ll just be the same but more generous with rewards so less grinding maybe. I too wonder what kind of deal they got to bring this to AA when I’m they would have made a fair bit from it being on the store. The first things I noticed were the lack of an endless mode with leaderboards and the slot machine death mechanic. I loved that part of JJ1. I wasn’t disappointed for long though, as they’ve been replaced with a lot of cool new features. I love the new Factory mechanic, the badges with unlockable equipment slots, new weapons, upgrades, vehicles, arcade mode (where you can earn resources for upgrading your passive skills), and the story mode. In fact, there isn’t much I really don’t like about Jetpack Joyride 2, other than how much of my day I’ve spent playing it For anyone else who’s plowing through it like this guy, I have a question that I hope someone can help me with: How do you complete the mission “Knock over 15 scientists in one run” and, similarly, “Knock over 100 scientists” (over multiple runs)? I’ve used my jetpack “Wizard Pot” fumes and knocked them over but that’s not giving me credit. I also tried shooting them but that doesn’t count either. I am doing something right though, because after 5 or 6 runs I’m getting credit for like 3 or 4 knock-downs. Those objectives are taking up 2/3 of the total that are allowed at once and I’m missing out on some serious credits and items. Any help would be much appreciated! Hope everyone’s having as much fun as I am My wizard garb: #Bonk3rZ Well-Known Member Mar 20, 2014 335 36 28 top of the world #7 #Bonk3rZ, Aug 19, 2022 Last edited: Aug 19, 2022 You're on the right track. (Edit: unless I miss something or you're encountering some sort of bug.). Flying over them often won't kill these lazy bastards though, so shooting is way more efficient. Also I noticed that due to the frantic action it's quite easy to overestimate how much whatever you've done. Just wait for a gun, ignore the baddies (if possible), stay on the ground and kill the science guys. Pro tip, hitting pause shows you your mission progress. I needed some tries for this too and wondered why, but when watching closely I always simply didn't kill enough, one time being just one short. And then I went hunting ... Game is friggin awesome! I knew you could check progress with the pause button. I was actually doing that to try to figure out what was counting towards knocking them over. I’ll give that a try when I get time tonight. I love everything about it. Although I'm a bit concerned about the overall amount of content. I spent a few hours with it and I'm already level 36 (out of 50), got most of the badges unlocked, got all factory rooms working etc. Sure, there's a lot to upgrade (especially badges through arcade games), but it mostly requires grinding for materials. If there were leaderboards, that'd be neat. But all I see are achievements. I'd love to compare my scores from arcade games with friends. Anyway, this a fantastic addition to Apple Arcade. Highly recommended! #Bonk3rZ Well-Known Member Mar 20, 2014 335 36 28 top of the world #10 #Bonk3rZ, Aug 20, 2022 No problem mate, we've all been there. Hope it worked out though. Then they double it up and make me “knock down 30 scientists in one run”. Ugh! macplash Well-Known Member Apr 17, 2014 2,645 1,103 113 Male 3D artist Munich, Germany #12 macplash, Aug 20, 2022 So, as I was concerned about the amount of content in my previous post, I just finished the game. I mean, in half of the day basically. I guess the balancing is completely off because the game was intended to be a free to play experience with a lot of grinding and whatnot. There are daily rewards I'm supposed to pick up for like a month. And since there's no endless mode, no leaderboards to chase high scores, there's no point in coming back. There's no endgame. All I can do is to replay the last mission with the final boss. Sure, I can grind for materials playing Arcade games, but as badges are intended solely to help in story mode, what's the point as I finished it already? There's "coming soon" sign of course, but it could take months. Don't get me wrong, the game's still fantastic experience. The only downside is it can be finished in less than a day, literally. I agree with you on the balance being off, @macplash Here are my stats: Gotters Well-Known Member Oct 27, 2016 114 31 28 #14 Gotters, Aug 23, 2022 I can only guess with the general structure of this and amount of in game currencies and upgrade items that Apple came in quite late in the day waving a big cheque and it wasn't easy/quick to strip all the FTP crap out. The core game remains solid, even if it is just a 1.5 rather than a 2 in terms of gameplay. Nice enough, would have been annoying as a grindfest in free to play mode, longevity will depend I guess on the contract to support post release (like say Sp!ng which has been amazing and doubled the game size). tops2 Well-Known Member Jan 21, 2011 2,083 56 48 #15 tops2, Aug 23, 2022 Came to say beat it last night (took about 4-5 days of on and off playing). Fun while it lasted. At the moment, I'm grinding a few of the power ups and trying to break 100k points for the arcade games (have 1 game passed that). I'll probably grind a bit more and put it aside until the next update. Maybe I'll have enough resources (probably not) to quickly upgrade whatever comes in the next update. lol Anotherkellydown Moderator Staff Member Patreon Bronze Feb 10, 2014 4,575 1,131 113 Male CAD Technician I Upstate NY https://youtube.com/channel/UCcvu9xhE7xT-mZrXUZQJr5g #16 Anotherkellydown, Aug 30, 2022 I’m pretty surprised this launched without an endless mode. Very disappointing. At the very least it could let you play previous levels again instead of the very last one only. I’ve just been checking in on my factory to collect all the goodies then upgrading anything that’s left. At this rate I’ll have every powerup and item maxed out before long. squarezero Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Dec 10, 2008 13,715 1,240 113 Male Chief Strategy Officer Salem, Massachusetts, USA #17 squarezero, Aug 30, 2022 I guess I’m seeing the Arcade modes as the score-chasing endless modes. With only 4 or 5 different arcade modes it gets repetitive quickly, especially once you get the high score of 100,000 on all of them (except the gravity race - only at 82,000 on that one). The only reason left to play them is out of obligation to get parts to max out all your gadgets, but when you max out the three you want to equip, they really lose their luster. Glad you tried to reach them! That’s what I’ve been doing: just opening the app, collecting from the factory and upgrading everything I can. I’ve maxed out all but 7 inventions (weapons) and all three of my vehicles are maxed out at lvl 10. macplash Well-Known Member Apr 17, 2014 2,645 1,103 113 Male 3D artist Munich, Germany #20 macplash, Sep 4, 2022 Unfortunately, neither Arcade modes are endless. Once you reach 100.000 points milestone the game just stops as it’s completed. Even if you manage to beat it with all three lives intact so there’s hypothetically still plenty to do - it just stops. So no chasing high scores there either. Sigh. I tried to get into original Jetpack Joyride (plus version on Apple Arcade), but it’s not as polished as the sequel. Also, there’s no health bar or lives so you can get hit only once, which is too restrictive and frustrating for me. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
