On the topic of updates and level editors... We have some new features in mind for future updates, but our priorities will shift based on everybodys responce one the game is released. We have thought a little about the possibility of a level editor, especially knowing the popularity of similar games with level editors. For us to make the levels, we actually have a PC version of the game, with an in built level editor. However, don't get too excited, it is a hacked together inhouse tool, held together with sticky tape, full of bugs but just enough to get the job done. The difference between that, and a tool for end users is an enormous amount of extra work. Generating the lighting for levels takes quite a while on a powerful computer, so, a iphone, or flash editor isn't practical. We only built the tool because we thought it was important for making fun levels, for us to be able to swap from game play to editing at any time. It allows tracks to be made by driving along, doing a jump, pausing the game, then placing a platform under the car, then keep driving. The tool also can display replay paths to help placing hoops and obsticals. However, there are many consideratoins we would have to make, and a lot of extra work we would have to do before we could consider releasing a level editor. We have no plan to release an editor at this stage but it is something we sometimes think about.
Wow, thats the best explanation ever. Maybe after all the extra work you can have it be like tap tap revenge customs where you send it to your ipod. Theres a PC version of this game? whaat?? Still can't wait for it to be approved. This is better than Eliminate in many ways. And if you somehow make a way to create tracks, then this will last for a looong time. Its like the Line Rider iRide with track sharing. <2gcr>
You're kidding me! It's a steal at $1.99. This game is priced to stay at the top of the app charts for a long time.
I can't wait for this game to come out. I've been waiting for a few months and I swear I've read every post on this thread, haha. Today I pulled out my ipod and watched the gameplay videos during class, and it passed a lot faster. Seriously $1.99 is a steal. I definitely agree about the user made content though, because then if there was a way to share tracks online (Like Line Rider, or Bike or Die!), there would be no end to the game. This would attract a lot more buyers, as on this platform most games have an eventual end to their replayability. It would be a great way to keep players coming back over and over again. Anyway, congratulations on finishing this project, now just sit back, relax, and watch those profits come in. They will.
I love the idea of being able to actually edit while playing the game. That's a step beyond my editor for Ground Effect where I can play a level with a single keypress from the editor but always have to start from the beginning of the track. Doing it your way would have made tweaking my longer tracks much easier.
I would love you guys forever if you did a level editor. More levels sounds good tho. Definately going to get this when its approved.
And thats the best response to a response err.. never mind Anyway, will a bird's eye view of the whole track be available in the game? Or do you just drive around to get a feel of how the track is like? (im thinking of ways to do shortcuts etc)
Perfect! I can asnwer too questions at once. Glad you asked because we will be releasing a game play video soon that will show how track fly overs work. The reason we added fly overs to the game is just incase anybody can't find the way, they can go and watch the fly over to find out where to jump to next. However, fly overs might also be helpful for other more devient purposes Just thinking about a bird's eye view, you know, I don't think we could actually do that for Jet Car Stunts, the tracks are too 3 dimensional. Some tracks get a bit vertical. btw, we just created a True Axis facebook page and Twitter account if anybody cares about that.
True Axis(trueaxis) on Twitter and True Axis on Facebook Sorry, I added them to my signature, but I didn't realise that signatures only appear for people who are logged in on the forum.
