The new buttons blow away the old ones.

You know what TrueAxis, I may be the only one, but I really thought the original buttons fit well too.
I also like them better than the new ones.

I kind of like the cartoon-ish look though. Sure it was a different car, but they were fine.

I think the new buttons are a bit harder to understand.

Its possible that abstract buttons might fit better, but we want to make some effort to keep things clear for less experienced gamers. Some people are afraid to press buttons, and I think that the cartoony buttons have a nice, please press me kind of a feel.

Working on touch devices makes me think how cool it would be to have a traditional console game pad, with an LCD on each button that can be controled by developers.

Anyway, more feed back is welcome.

About abstract look vs car look (original or revised), I totally agree that the latter is easier for new gamers to understand. (However for anyone who have already play a race game, I'm not sure it'll matter.)

By the way, can you tell us the required configuration for the game? iPhone/3G/3GS? iPhoneOS 2.0/2.2/3.0?

The game works for firmware 2.2.1 and above.

The game is on all devices. Here's the low down on them:

    iPhone 3GS - 60FPS update
    iPod 3G (not 8GB one) - 60FPS update

    iPhone 3G - 30FPS
    iPhone 1G - 30FPS
    iPod 3G (8GB one - it's the same hardware as a 2G) - 30FPS
    iPod 2G - 30FPS
    iPod 1G - 30FPS

Testing went well today - so I guess we submit to Apple tomorrow :)

My iPod Touch 1G on 2.2.1 firmware thanks you. This is great news.
What about controls, do you change them already? On a future update? Never?

On the iPod 1G the the framerate is super smooth - I hope you enjoy the game :)

The buttons will be done on a future update - maybe give a choice for people to select the style they like :) We decided it was a bit late in the day to change this, as we set the date of submission this Friday last month. We don't wont to introduce bugs at this stage been so close to submission.

That's good to hear. The look of the buttons is the last thing I am worried about, as they will be covered up most of the time anyway.
I am much more excited to get the game and enjoy it ASAP!

We did some checks with firmware 2.2.1 and found out that Openfeint 2.2 does not work correctly. What happens is that you go into the dash then touches fail to register and you are sitting with no where to go. We cannot submit now until the Openfeint people get back to us. Bit of a pisser really :( What gets me is everything runs fine on the newer firmwares...
