well I don't own the game sadly but I have had the chance to play it on a friends device. Personally I preferred the first boxy font, it reminds me of the "Jet Car Stunts" that is on the main screen made with blocks. The second one looks almost smashed together.
The square font does reflect the theme of all of the cubes in the levels, so I would vote for that one. It also is more futuristic than the traditional italic font, while being retro at the same time due to the association with pixels. This also fits with the theme of the game with its jetpack car and simple graphics. The glowy borders clashes with all of the above, though. Also, the line width of the checkbox mark should mirror the line width of the font. If you plan to switch to the square font, I would recommend switching to a more modern interpretation of that metaphor. (Yes, I'm a bit damaged. Ex-professional UI designer.) PS. The new icons a few pages back are NOT an improvement from a usability standpoint. They look too much like in-game graphics (suddenly there's five cars on the screen instead of one) and also read worse because the symbol that actually contains the information has shrunk compared to that fancy new 3D car you've got crammed in there. Aesthetically, they also clash with the retry/pause buttons which have gone unchanged. Please consider changing them back, or if you actually choose the square font, consider creating icons along the same square theme.
I like the smaller version of the original font. One request - use a different color to highlight the selected choice. Why? The same gray is used for your selected choice and for locked items and it more than once has confused me. Of course once you unlock all the levels this is a moot point, but the first time somebody plays this, "Just Learning" is the only white text, the only available choice, and once selected, "Just Learning A" is now the only gray text, representing what is selected... EDIT: I almost forgot to mention I drew quite a crowd yesterday playing this. I was at the dentist, getting a crown installed and some bonding done (so I was in the chair a little over an hour.) Had a number of the assistants asking what I was playing and at one point had three of 'em watching me play over my shoulders. They were very impressed by the graphics - and from what they said they mostly played stuff like Bejeweled. One of them said their husband played "that game where you land planes and keep them from hitting each other" and I was sure to let them all know the title of this game. Hopefully it nets you a sale or two.
I'm loving this game even more since the last update. There are only things I would change to make it perfect! Too many presses are needed to start the game each time you boot it up. There should be no need to always choose between normal and casual. Make the player choose the very first time they play, and then push this into the options menu. Please change Retrys to Retries! I know it's silly, but spelling errors always jump out at me, and it lowers the perceived quality of the product.
Omg this game is addicting.. im wondering why i avoided buying it lol.. This is officially one of my fav apps now
Thanks everybody for there feedback. Seems opinions are mixed. But atleast not to many people are saying that they all suck I was also thinking about creating a poll. I might do that later, and potentially with a new set of options to choose from.
The new icons where actually added in the last update, but you have to go into the options menu to select them. (I just had these ones selected by random when taking the screen shots) I don't like the too many presses thing my self, but all the solutions I can think of that I can cram into the menus, I am not sure are better. Probably starting the game at menu with the last track you played would be best, but that might interfere with changes in our next up date. Some how "Retries" looked confusing to me out of context and I'm not sure that "Retrys" or "Retries" is a word, so I decided to choose my own spelling. I took insparation from the band name "Led Zepplin", and decided to do something less correct, but hopefully more recognizable. Maybe I should have called them resets. Stupid english language. Anybody else have any thought on that?
