Haven't tried this yet. How is the handling of the car? Does it control like a boat like Gran Turismo, or does it handle well like Burnout or Need for Speed arcade racers? Also, can you swap the controls so that the steering buttons are on the opposite side?
This game is amazing. Here are some suggestions to make it even better: 1. Save replays. 2. Race your ghost. 3. Track editor. 4. Music? 5. Some kind of multiplayer (beyond leaderboards). 6. Display medal next to each completed track on the select screen 7. Show best lap time for each track I know most of these have been suggested already and I might be beating a dead horse, but I hope the more people that ask, the more the developer will be likely to implement these things. Thanks!
I second the request for ghost cars. It's nice to see that I'm like 7346th in the world for a track but I'm never going to beat the top people but beating my own times is nice. Yes I can see what they were but to see the ghost makes you know exactly how your doing or not doing. So if at all possible this would be a great addition to an amazing game
Very clear the devs spent tons of attention getting the controls jusssst right. There is a learning curve less because you have to learn the controls and more because the tracks demand precision driving, which the controls are more than capable of. Fwiw, I would LOVE to see a kart racer build using this control engine. Powersliding is perfect here and with the rocket mechanic some crazy courses could be built.
I was surprised that not having music really didn't bother me with this game. I'm just surprised it's not more popular. All the amazing black friday deals that I got, I'm still coming back to this one. It just sucks you in, and I've been playing since the first day it came out. Don't put this on sale, it's more than worth it! Can't wait for some cool updates. LOVE this game
i just did impossible c in 3 retrys which was a ton of fun of course this comes after an attempt on the same level at 45 lol
Oh i'm on that level. I keep getting stuck on that tiny gap. I got passed it once tho. To tell you the truth i beat that level on 1 retry but than my ipod touch died (needed recharging) right after finsh and it didn't have time to save it.
yea that sucks i would get past it and then retry so i would get that part ( with the hole) down really easy but it is still really hard
That surprised me too, as it takes a truly engaging game to make me forget about the music, or lack of it. As others have mentioned, the sound engine in JCS is just incredible. Such subtle touches as the sound of sliding along the inner edges of tracks are on the same high level of refinement as the visual touches, such as that of the understated, yet effective skidding. The dev mentioned somewhere on TA (this thread I believe) that he made some design decisions early on in development in order to keep the fraps high. I wonder whether omitting the iTunes music function was one of them; that and possibly the fact that 2G iphones are reportedly experiencing bad sound glitches. Although it's generally an odd conceit that a game could be so good as to not need music at all, I have to admit the JCS comes so close to being ideal overall that such an omission could be ignored - at least for a while. Adding music would make JCS almost too good to be true
Hey i just got thisgame yesterday and I must say it is the best game I have ever played on an ipod. Asphalt 5 and NFSU are completely blown away by this. but are there any updates going to be coming out? THIS IS THE BEST GAME EVER
Sweet!! Just downloaded this one on my sons 1g touch and it is awesome. Smooth and perfect. Friggin hard though!
Has anyone else attempted to watch the replay of a 5+ minute time trial run and noticed that it sometime cuts it short (i.e. loops right at the 5 minute mark) if the runtime is longer? I ask because the replay following the gold that was just gotten on time trial Hard C cuts to the starting/finishing point right, which I noticed after making a video of it that clocks at 5:02, even though the run was 5:21 and change. At first I thought the disparity was due to a video making error, but then saw that a slice had been cut from the replay kept on the still sleeping device.
We had to get a 2G iphone to fix the crash problem with sound... But I have not noticed any sound glitches on that device... We use our own optimized sound engine which is one of the reasons why the frame rate is high on the lower devices. I made the decision not to include music from the start because of frame rate but later on in the project other parts of optimization gained more time back. Hopefully adding the ability to play your own music will not effect the frame rate on the lower devices when this is implemented
In the future we will be using this control system for other games... I've always wanted to do a kart racer - so you never know One of the things that's griped me about JCS is that a few people, when they first play the game, right it off and say the controls are bad, and give it a low star rating on the iTunes store. It takes time to learn the controls but once mastered you can do things with that car which you thought impossible to begin with on an iDevice - I wonder how many people in this camp change their minds later on when things click into place? By rights this game should be high in the charts... the reality is that it is not. It's one of those games where you do badly to begin with, while learning the controls, then as soon as things click you start having fun. It's at this cross over stage where the game gets criticized for been too hard... And this is where the damage has been done on sales. Hopefully we can make it more accessible by doing the casual mode
I'd love to see what you guys would do with a kart racer, the current selection of kart racers aren't very good. There's a few, but they're all lacking IMO.
I've been playing this (****ing awesome) game nonstop the past few days, and I keep coming up with more suggestions to add to my list above: 8. Have an mph meter somewhere to show how fast you're going. Just for kicks. 9. Be able to switch to a first-person or cockpit view (at least for replays?). My stomach turns enough as it is, and that would be insane. 10. Have some kind of rear-view mirror pop up when you back up, because sometimes I fall off the edge, and when the camera swivels around it's really disorienting. 11. Auto-save your last checkpoint if you get a call or want to exit the app. I keep getting texts while I play and have to start over when I come back! 12. Also, if you added ghosts and a track editor (please!), the ability to download new ghosts/new user-created tracks would extend the life of this thing immeasurably. 13. Ability to upload best replays directly to youtube, a la Real Racing. I love finding other people's runs on youtube but it's usually some dude holding a camera and it looks terrible. I know this is a super long list and am in no way expecting even a quarter of these things to be implemented, but... man it'd be so perfect. Thanks again for the amazing game, True Axis!
