It would be interesting to be able to watch how everybody plays and learn exactly why some people breeze through the first few difficulties, while some people find it very hard right from the start. Another tip is that sometimes you need choose when to you the jet carefully so you don't run out of fule. Somebody just posted a video of "Platforming: Easy A" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNUuYbPHg80 Ofcourse, they make it look really easy.
I'm with you... I really suck at this game, can't beat the easy first level either... It's always the long jumps that require boosting and flying... I land way to fast, or crash into something and smash into pieces.
Mastering the airbrake will help alot. I think once you get used to the basics, then the difficulty curve is ok. If you manage to get through "Just learning", "Easy", "Intermediate" then "Hard", have a look at "Impossible", then go back and play easy, you won't beleive just how easy it really is.
a tip is... start by using no turbo at all.. u find that you can master the controls much easily.. once you have got the hang of it, or there is a level which requires you to use the boost, press it gently and let go, have just a tiny bit of boost so you can still control your car the hard part is aligning the car on the ramp so when you do fly off it, you go straight. once again.. try to play without boost to get the hang of the controls first
The guys from trueaxis should take the guys from firemint out for a drink and then add youtube uploads in an update. That would be cool.
You can reset your retry count; pause the game and hit restart. It will put you at the beginning, but your retry count is reset.
This will not happen to the Openfeint times - once they are posted they stay on the boards... For some reason the stats file is getting corrupt and refuses to load. For the 1.1 release we have put a fail safe system in where if this happens it will load in a backup. I'm sorry this has happened to people.
I breezed through the Easy and Intermediate levels. Hard took a little longer. Impossible is well... pretty damn tough. A is done, and that's it. It definitely helps to just play around with the control. Play through the easy levels a couple times. It becomes fluid pretty quick.
Thought I would chime in now that I've had the game on my iPhone for a while. I'm one of the people who just isn't very good at the game but even with just 8 platform and 11 time trial levels unlocked (and I don't play the hard time trial levels), there is more than enough of the perfect control/unique on the iPhone driving to keep me coming back. Lives alongside my other racers and gets played a lot.
This is probably my favorite non-puzzle and non-retro arcade game on this platform so far. I could blaze around the time trial laps until the end of days and never get bored, which concerns me The only portable racer I enjoyed this much was Wipeout Pure, which wouldn't be a fair comparison, considering that it was over 30 bucks and had a great soundtrack to help keep one immersed. Just unlocking the hard platforming levels will take a while, but at least jet fuel isn't running out every other checkpoint on the easy levels, which is what happened during the first several hours of attempting them. It astounds me that anyone can play the impossible levels at all. Hopefully not all of them will turn out to have too many shortcuts, because it's a little off-putting to know that the standard way of completing the track could be so far from the ideal.
Yeah, I couldn't resist playing so I tried out a course with a score I didn't care about, and saw that I didn't lose my better time. So given that it is just a matter of unlocking the difficulties which isn't too bad since I continue to play all the levels. And I've managed to improve a lot of my scores on Learning and Easy. Thanks for the response and I look forward to the update.
What a funny old game Jet Car Stunts is... When I read the reviews on the Appstore, it's getting criticized for been too hard by a few people. Most people love it and rate it high. I think a lot of people have been put off from buying this game because of the hard rep it has by a small group of people. I do agree the game is hardcore and has it's roots firmly in the arcade 90's but I get the feeling people will bypass the game because of this. One of the mistakes we did was not do a tutorial - most people who first play the game do not realize that you can break in the air - but we will be doing one on a future update. I think we have delivered the best controls on the iDevices for car games, for 1.99US we are offering more than the big publishers offer in content and value. I guess it all comes down to that the modern game player has been spoon fed gameplay, toned downed so that the publishers can reap the money in with less risk. And as soon as a game that comes along that challenges players beyond a comfort zone they give up. But I'm proud that we have made a true game, a challenging game that has loads of replay for those that wish to put the effort in and learn how the game works
I really regret buying this game, still can't beat the first easy level.... waiste of $2. The worst part of the game are the big jumps where you have to boost. Were they high when making this game? Impossible to land it without smashing into a million pieces, or landing and goeing so fast you tumble and fly off the ledge. I'm done with it, will break my ipod if I try it again...
Game is amazing. Worth more than 2$ I just got first place in Impossible C platforming. took me forever but dangit I did it.
Don't right the game off, the people that stick with it enjoy it a lot. Some pointers: 1. The handbrake button below the jet button is also an air-brake. 2. When the car is in the air you can tilt the device up or down to make the car climb higher or lower. 3. Also, while in the air you can roll the car left or right by tilting the device in those directions But I guess most people do give up and miss out on what the game has to offer. We, the devs, are to blame because we did not make a tutorial to show this which we will do on a later update.
I love this game. I actually think the difficulty is perfect. In this game I don't mind replaying the tracks because I don't feel like I'm being "tricked". There is a definite way to complete the track, it just takes patience, concentration, and sometimes a bit of luck. I'm on Impossible E, and while it's been really tough, I have no doubt that I'll get it soon.
