Is there a reason why this game is tilt to turn only?

So you can use rocket and air brake with one had, and the accelerator on the other hand. We put a lot of effort into getting the tilt controls perfect, and I always just assumed that touch controls would such for this game, but I have to admit, it was never tested. I guess it could work if all the other buttons were on one side, like the single handed mode that can be selected in the options, but it wouldn't be much fun going through and updating all the tutorials for both touch and tilt.

The game is perfect with tilt controls, and on screen would be fiddly.

Minor thing is that the thumbnails for tracks is blurry due to being scaled up.

Yeah, it is a pity I don't have any hi-res versions of those thumbnails. There are a couple buttons buttons and a slider that can be found in the Menus that are a bit fuzzy too, but at least we got the high res fonts in. Considering it is a universal build, a few short cuts where taken to keep this update free of charge.

Who wants an JCS update for iPhone 5?

It is really frustrating that if we do the update, we have to cut of iPhone 3G users and below. JCS still runs great on the 3G and even the original iPhone. It will be really sad not not support them at all any more. Especially because we where careful to make sure our recent update still worked on the old devices.

I guess that if you want JCS on your 3G, you had better buy it soon in case we update.

And we appreciate that. Thanks :)

Have you had time to think about the control layout on the iPad lately? I am still hopeful to have a different layout where the controls are about half way up the screen on the sides for the iPad so that my hands are more comfortable when playing.

I've been so busy with True Skate, that I forgot about that. The good news is that True Skate is very nearly ready for submission.

I guess we can fix up those iPad control layouts at the same time as an iPhone 5 update. I just wish there was a way to avoid dropping support for the iPhone 3G.

I'd like JCS on the iPhone 5, but what my iphone 5 would really love is JCS 2... :)

as much as it would be nice to be able to keep supporting older platforms ad-infinitum, there comes a time when it ceases to be a realistic goal. The Iphone3G is a pretty old platform. I'm still on the iphone4, but frankly I;'m not at all broken up by the notion that devs are already or will soon stop supporting it. Thats just reality...

I often say this around here - JCS has been my #1 favorite iOS game ever since it was released. Any reason to experience it in a slightly new way would be much appreciated to hold me over until part 2.

So bring on the iPhone 5 support! : )

Its defiantly fair enough for new titles. We decided to drop support for the 3G for JCS2 a while back, but its frustrating when you can't keep selling an old game on old devices, if you want to upgrade the game to work on new devices.

If you where cynical, you might be suspicious that apple intentionally gimps older devices to encourage people to unnecessarily upgrade. If I recall correctly, the final iOS updates available for the original iPhone, and the 3G, caused a significant drop in performance.

Anyway, I guess 3G users will just have to upgrade.

well, you can't perform magic. Theres no denying that the new models are significantly more powerful than the 3Gs were. I think people need to be realistic about it and accept that at some point you can't spend significant time trying to find a way to make an app run on years-old tech. I agree that for an older game like JCS it sorta sucks to have it drop support for older devices but the fact is the game is good enough to deserve an upgrade to the newer device and it would be a shame not to have it...

I assume if the build does not support the 3G then the apple update mechanism would keep users from upgrading it. So no existing users will get a broken version. If that is the case then you are just missing new sales to those older devices right?

Wow that's a bummer. *shakes fist at Apple *

Game is still going strong on my 2nd gen iPod Touch (which is mostly used by our daughter nowadays.)

It's very interesting at how little "will XYZ still run on iOS6?" there has been, I remember it was a big issue with iOS4 (and somewhat with 5.) I'm not upgrading for the moment, gonna wait at least a minor patch or two before I jump in. (I've got a lot of old stuff on - even Glyder and Glyder 2!)

I've always meant to ask, are you guys big fans of Trackmania? I only picked that one up recently (on sale for PC) and felt right at home after playing through JCS.

Just make sure you don't delete any apps you don't have a back up of.

Yeah, I worked on so many car games over the years, I was completely sick of them... until I played Track Mania. I've told this story before, but when I was working on Camageddon 3, we had this one race course that was way too impossible. I would use it to test the physics. I remember thinking that playing that level was more fun then the rest of the game, but it was removed because the AI couldn't follow it, plus it was too hard anyway. However, it make me think about weather a driving game, where the goal was just to reach the end of the course would work. It seemed like such an alien idea at the time that I couldn't see how to make a good sales pitch out of it. I guess I should have just thought of it as a platforming game with cars. However, when Track Mania came out, I was like... man... I wish I made this game., I hadn't had so much fun playing a game in ages. The jet and jet fuel idea came from a crazy rocket power up I did for Carmageddon 3. Carmageddon 2, had some afterburner power up that would give you a huge nitro like boost while you held down the 'ALT' key. I decided to take the afterburner name more literally and put a ridiculously overpowered rocket flame out the back of the car which would let you jump an entire level. Carmageddon 3 bombed, but it was a cool project to work on because of the technical challenge at the time. I learnt heaps in a very short amount of time. It was all cutting edge stuff back then.

+1 for 16:9 support. The gfx in this game definitely deserves it. :)

I apologize in advance as I know you guys are very busy with the impending release of TrueSkate (which looks amazing!), but do you have any more info on when the iCloud update might be coming for this? I'd love to play JCS on my iPad more but I have like four years of progress on my iPhone already...

We just did iCloud support for True Skate, so are considering it for JCS, however, we might want to focus on JCS2 instead. Still, we do need a JCS update for iPhone 5, and it would be good to do an update to help promote True Skate, so we will probably do something, however, if we keep adding new features to JCS, then JCS2 will never be finished, and that has heaps of new content.
