Right, some people can't stand persuasiveness. Everyone knows the levels would have fewer shortcuts if they had been tested more thoroughly, instead of by some hobbyist standard. That's all i wanted to say.
F355 had shortcuts... Wasn't AM2 an AAA team? GT5 Prologue had shortcuts... Isn't Polyphony an AAA company? I think True Axis could patch it, but it's possible they don't want. Maybe they like it.
and these shortcuts at Impossible A are very elegant, not just simple jumps. And players skills are amazing, u are right
No, Andy of Trueaxis ("Trueaxis" on this forum) just wrote to the contrary" (regarding shortcuts) Trueaxis wrote: It totally amazes me how people find these shortcuts - no matter how well a level is constructed to stop it..." Endquote Given that designer intention, there are numerous examples of obvious misdesign that would contradict that statement, and that's exactly the kind of design ambiguity that diminishes the game, in my opinion (It doesn't help that Luketrueaxis himself called using the restart button "cheating," earlier in this thread). A player could have found those shortcuts using a level preview tool, or by consulting a friend or anyone else, so one is not necessarily being bested by a more skilled player when that player skips too much of the track. Not to mention the fact that the more newfangled the technique in successfully executing the more "amazing shortcuts," the more subject it is to unfair manner of play, such as a DiY setup with a controller that allows more precision than a 2nd gen or earlier idevice. Or hacking to allow slightly more jetfuel, making the biggest shortcut jumps easier. Trying to pass off successful execution of shortcuts as superior skill just cheapens the game, and JCS' ultimate success with consumers will reflect that.
Personally I think the shortcuts are great for a game like this - free roaming environments just beg for them. And the discovery of them, and perfecting them, is just as good fun as crossing the finishing line. I remember when we tested the original levels, that when I found the short cut for just learning B, the one that cuts out the bend, before the last jump and beat Luke's time - it was like yeah beat that At the time shortcuts were secret because there was no replay system at the time - we could've changed the levels but accidental fun should be kept in games. The good thing is the replay system just evens up the play field now and any shortcut found will be used by dozen of players. But as I said shortcuts can make the game fun and good luck to anyone that finds them. Edit. We didn't try to stop the shortcuts, the ones we found in testing we kept, what I was saying is it's pointless trying to stop them because people will find ways to get them. We even showed one of the shortcuts in the videos we released before launch. If it's fun keep it - human nature always finds ways to do shortcuts, it's part of our make up.
This sums up what's wrong with JCS - the developers do things like call using the restart button "cheating" (which itself was offensive) but then praise questionable shortcut replays that could have been pulled off with some device besides an idevice. Luketrueaxis himself wrote earlier in this thread that he's "so supremely arrogant" (referring to himself)." Maybe that's why he (or they) try to pass off their track design oversights as player ingenuity; the two man team lacks the technical means by which to stop it.
I remember when the original Quake came out and rocket jumping was discovered - just as long as you had enough health - you could propel yourself into areas where the designers did not consider. As, I said human nature will seek these things out to get advantages...
Which reminds me - your leaderboards are spammed with oil company and fast food franchise names. JCS will look best in the long run if someone attends to that.
hey, great game! I want to put some opinions and wishes: I am playing the level pack right now, still at hard c now... i really enjoy the part in intermediate A ,right before the first checkpoint. Its hard to see till the last seconds where its going ,so it makes the game very exiting. The most other parts are hard too, but its very clear what is suposed to be done, so a few tries, and you are there. My wish is to put more of that stuff in jet car 2 or future updates. Also the part from the last checkpoint to the finish in hard B, is amazing! incredible design! you got this feeling: WOW! this guys are freaks! Just i didt got this feel all the time cause a lot of the tricks feels familiar if you already played the original game ( espesialy the driving around a la sonic the hedgehog, gets old fast ). This is just a opinion. Keep the great work!
i think it's just a way Grubjelly provides his Resume. He wants to get a job as tester and level designer.
Are you kidding? Not only do I have no level design or technical skill, but my reputation for causing trouble in the forums alone would disqualify me.
Certainly part of reason that Short Cuts are so possible in Jet Car Stunts is because it is technically easier to allow them. That helped us keep costs down and make more levels and release for a cheeper price, and focus on things that we felt where more important. But also, a lot of the design inspiration for JCS came from open world driving games, including one I worked on once where the level designers made major oversites with the check point lay out that allowed massive short cuts, but the short cuts turned out to be one of the funnest bits of the game, so they where left in. There where certain spots in Jet Car Stunts where we tried to block short cuts, but my view is that if players where smart enough to find away around, then good for them. Anyway, the topic of short cuts has come up in a few different places now. Some people love them, some people think they spoil the leaderboards. In JCS2, hopefully we can do something to try to keep both groups of people happy.
hard C and hard D...this levels are already the 2 dolars worth. This is what i liked about jet car stunts. The thought: No!...it cant be!...they REALLY want that from me?...
The shortcuts don't make anyone look smart, if that's what you think it comes down to, especially when you consider that people can slow the game down, consult with others, use a preview tool, etc. Such shortcuts, that you couldn't figure out how to block ,only remind people that $2 games seldom have any real quality control, just as you provided iphone 4 owners (not me) with an app that you never actually tested on a real device, which was also very unprofessional.
He's a lost cause Derek. He feeds off us replying to him. If we totally ignore him maybe he will go away. Run troll,Run.
