TrueAxis thanks for the honest answer. please, is there a chance that u will make option to disable shadows?
It is easier to see on the iPad because the detail is more clear with a bigger screen. Lighter shadows would probably be a good thing though. Regardless I am loving the levels so far. Thanks for releasing them!
The shadows are pre-baked light maps (a texture), which is used to do the lighting in the game - so there is no way you can turn off shadows without turning off the lighting... If we did that the game would look flat shaded and would be hard to gauge where you are going. For the technical minded - to get the lighting and shadows we texture map this into the polygons, so just by turning off texture mapping the level would look the color white. This is one of the reason why the framerate of the game is very smooth because our vertex format is just Position and UVs for the levels. I hope this explains the reasons why the shadows cannot be disabled
The dark parts are not much of a problem for me but if the light maps could be brightened up some without too much work it would be a nice update in the future. I wouldn't want them to be disabled entirely.
I find that playing on the ipad is no fun. The only time I run JCS on it is to check my times when i haven't played in a while and occasionally watch a replay on it. Every time I've posted to the leaderboard except one for platforming intermediate b (original level) was made on my 2nd gen iPod touch.
Let me see if I understand the problem with the shadows properly. Is it just that it is too dark to see in some places when the screen brightness is not up high? Is there any particular levels where this is worse? Do you prefere to keep the brightness low to save batteries or something? Or is it just easier on the eyes? Like Andy said before, the lighting/shadows, apart from looking nice, are actually very important in giving you perception a of space, distance, speed and to break things up. If everything was flat shaded, it would be hard to see where one platform ends and the next starts, it would be hard to see how big a drop is, and sometimes it would be hard to feel how fast you are moving. But we could adjust the brightness of the lighting and shadowns.
We will just have to agree to disagree. I find playing on iPad the best. I only play on iPhone when I don't have my iPad.
Alright, gold on DLC Impossible E. That leaves just Imp B, the beginning of which I still can't comprehend. EDIT: Gold medal for every dlc track except impossible F, which is still at 5 retries. 2nd EDIT: The Impossible Silver Openfeint achievement for silver medal or better on all impossibles did not unlock. I sent AndyTrueaxis a PM. Here's a screenshot.
Could you tell me what error message you are getting... At the moment we are trying to iron out small problems with Openfeint X and I need to pass on this information to the OF people. Cheers
It's not really an error message. I just tap purchase level pack, then it just stays at "waiting for purchase..."
Do any other messages come up at all? How long have you tried waiting? You said you phone is not Jailbroken didn't you? Did you say which hardware and which OS?
So I just recently got the game and I'm loving it, but man, it's not easy is it?! I only just managed to get through the easy levels, after many many MANY re-tries. I think there's just now way I'm going to be able to do the hard or impossible levels. I might just be able to do the intermediary levels, if my iPhone survives being thrown at the wall, that is...
I would just like 2 say I love the game and am really enjoying the new levels One small issue I have is that the openfeint leaderboards are spoiled somewhat by people taking shortcuts. I understand that to some it is fun to try and find the shortcuts and I take my hat of to some of you but I just wish there was maybe 2 leaderboards one with shortcuts and one without or something so that you could actually see the quickest time where the track has been followed. Maybe if the rings were checkpoints that did nothing but had to b passed though for a non shortcut lap. All in all tho great game and well done with the update
A few people have voiced that concern but its actually quite a lot of work to change, however, its definatly something we want to try and improve for JCS2. You can always play on casual mode. Otherwise, remember, you will improve the more you play, if you manage to get through hard, then go back to easy, you will find it REALLY easy. Anyway, I hope your phone survives.
I AM playing on casual mode! That's the only way I can get through the levels! The thought of playing on "normal" mode scares me!
Haha, ok, well I think that half the fun in this kind of game is that you can improve as you go, with each next level feeling like its going to be impossible, but, some how, you can suprise your self and manage to do it.
i am kind of vampire. at work, at home for all devices with lcd`s i set brightness to the lowest possible level. therefore when playing JCS, sometimes it's not possible to see the margins of the track if shadows are too dark. but, shadows are premade, so it's ok, don't bother.
