I can understand that. If you release a universal build and people see not much of a difference graphic wise the new users of your app that have an iPad might write a not as perfect of a review as a fully optimized app.

As a user though that already loves this game(My favorite App btw!) it is very sad to not have a higher res version that fills the screen even if it was only using the existing textures :). I only play on the iPad myself. The extra screen size makes it easier for me to see. I can't play as well on the iPhone so I don't play it on there anymore.

I find myself using the iphone not as often as the iPad. The extra screen size even with just doubling the non-ipad optimized apps makes a big difference for me.

Too bad you couldn't create the next build as iphone only but have a hidden easter egg that increases the screen res to full for ipad (hidden ipad compatibility :) and pop up a screen that says WARNING: THIS IPAD EASTER EGG IS EXPERIMENTAL. TEXTURES ARE STILL LOW RES AND THE APP IS NOT 100% TESTED IN THIS MODE. JETCAR STUNTS 2 WILL FULLY TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE IPAD. CONSIDER THIS A LITTLE THANK YOU TO THOSE WITH AN IPAD. That way we could still get the full ipad experience and you wouldn't have to market it as ipad compatible. I keep dreaming about it anyway :).

The ETA is now up to Apple... As soon as the update goes "in review" instead of "waiting for review", we'll post here to let people know.

We are using the larger screen on the iPhone 4 :) But because it looks small - just a sharper image - it looks fantastic.

The thing is we do not want to alienate people and do an only iPad version and charge for it again. To justify this we would have to upgrade the assets and go to shader 2.0 and that takes time. That time could be spent on Jet Car Stunts 2 to make that version on the iPad gorgeous looking. We expect to get this out for early 2011

The other option is a Universal binary... The latest update is getting towards the 20MB limit, so adding assets into that would take it beyond 20MG, which we don't want to do and it's a time thing again.

Admittedly it plays really well on the iPad's larger screen but we are not happy on how it looks and the time spent to make it nice is probably best spent on the sequel.

You probably won't get much of the ipad user base anyway, so you're being wise to cater to microgamers and maximize their response to your little game. Half the impact of the faux-shadows, etc., is surely lost in the bigger format. I'm sure this will be fun to experience again someday when an ipod touch 4 or such without a service contract requirement becomes available, but by then there will probably be a good JCS clone with included level editor.

Going safe is the best route for us - it was safe to add in the iOS features like anti-aliasing, using the iPhone 4 Retina Display and such, to go along with the DLC update.

The good Jet Car Stunts clone will come from us as Jet Car Stunts 2 and we will be doing a map editor and many more things to take the game into different directions. Well that's the plan anyway ;)

Hehehe when JCS2 is also out for the iPad users can then recreate with the editor the original levels for the iPad :D

Thanks for the reasoning behind it. Looking forward to the update.

I wonder when iPad will take advantage of the new iPhone 4 resolution apps when scaling. I assume it doesn't do that yet.

Based on the appearance of new leaderboards on Openfeint, it looks as if there will be new time trials in the dlc in addition to the platforming tracks. I recall the devs mentioning "no plans" for time trials in the dlc, so this comes as a surprise.

What new appearance? Nothing should be showing until 1.4.0 version comes out?

The only time trials content is coming from the lite build.

I've just taken a look on the old build... Something has gone wrong with OF data base. Those names do not exist for 1.4.0. I'm wondering whether there's been a change because of Openfeints release of 2.5.

I've been up for a long time and need to sleep. I've just looked again and everything is as should. There are no extra leaderboards there until 1.4.0 comes online.

The way the versioning works with this is that OF uses a file called info.plist which is an app file that holds info about the game - that is where the version number gets stored for the build. And if the version number is lower than the one we set on the server than the new leaderboards will not show. Which is what is happening when I look at it with the old build of the game. The new build will show the new leaderboards.

@Grubbelly what are you seeing with the version of JCS you are using?

I just opened JCS in order to see if it displayed the new leaderboards ("Level Pack...") again, which didn't work, but then I remembered checking my JCS times yesterday from within another Openfeint game, Cubed Rally Racer, via the "my games" tab and was able to reproduce that just a few minutes ago. The version of that game is the latest, and my 2nd iPT is non-JB OS 3.13.

It turns out that I mistook the Lite Time Trials in those lists for "Level pack: Time Trial...etc." Either that, or they were removed since I first noticed the new OF lists yesterday.

So no new time trials, which is fine.

:) That's what I did and mistook the old time trails as something new - I guess lack of sleep does strange things. You had me panicking there for a moment ;)

    Hey
Me and my friend think that a great leaderboard should be total platforming time. This would give a great overall player skill ranking. I think that would be so cool.
Also am so excited about the update

We are still in "Waiting for review"

I guess Apple must be overworked with devs submitting iOS 4 updates.

The last time we updated it was out within 24hrs compared to nearly 5 days with this submission.
