Okay, that makes sense. Didn't realize that. I think that should be changed. I'm trying to test the track before I've placed another checkpoint but can't
Where we store the DLC is where Apple recommends to put it on device to stop piracy by lifting the levels straight out the device from a jailbroken device. But there is one side effect of using this directory, Apple will remove files from it if your storage space is pretty low if you start installing new apps or cache new data into the device. Usually if you are tight on memory Apple normally put a pop-up box to warn this is happening with options to let you decide what to remove or let them manage it. At a guess your device is pretty low on storage space and the iOS is trying to find some space by removing cached data. Restoring will re-download the levels. When James gets back from his holidays and the server issues get sorted out we will have an internal meeting to decide on user end experience... and what we can to improve it. Personally I don't want to use this directory to store the DLC because of the reasons mentioned. In the original game the DLC was stored in a directory connected to the game and the only way that data would go missing is if you deleted the app.
I think Luke has mentioned that be patient, just wait for awhile and progress will be restored. What's happening, which is a bug, is the game is waiting for a server response or a time out. With the server problems it's taking a long time to get a connection and the timeout takes quite a few seconds, which is delaying the loading of level progression that is stored internally on the device. We have a new version of the game waiting for approval that will fix this issue. I'm sorry this is happening to people. Edit: From our Facebook page: The JCS2 server is struggling under the load, which has showed up a bug in the game. When you restart, progress is not loaded until the server either logs you in or fails to. If you are patient, your progress will be loaded eventually, but if you start messing with things, it may cause more problems. In this case, it might be necessary to log back in through profile > accounts, in which case a lot of patience will be necessary again. If that works, there may be a big delay again, so be more patient again.
@NinthNinja - Thanks for the reply. Will make sure to have enough space free. At the time I had about 500mbs of storage --- More suggestions and feedback for the editor: - Ability to skip checkpoints when testing levels. It's annoying to try and perfect one section, but have to play the first or more parts of the level to get there - Option to choose which environment the track is in - Noticed several times that when you make a track close to another part of the track, more often than not, either two things will happen: part of the track "scenery" (the blocks along the track) will be jutting out of another part of the track, messing up that section, or the track itself would pass through the other track. It would be nice if the track itself adjusted width if it gets too close to another section. (Does that make sense?) - Not sure what the level out icon does. I've pressed it while my track slanted and nothing happened. Would be very useful if it leveled out the track, especially when coming out of a loop or jump at some crazy angle and it's tough to try and get the track back to normal so you could place a checkpoint - Really would like the ability to place checkpoints or at least the finish upside down, so we could make levels like Upside Down - Would be useful if we could pause the game while editing, rather than only rewinding. Also to rotate the camera while paused so we can get a better idea where the track is headed or how far away the track is from another section
Anyone else here making user tracks? I'm thinking of starting a thread for Community Levels in General Discussion, but I'm curious if people here will contribute and post there.
Does anyone else think the flying car's controls are near impossible to accurately make turns while flying?
Just want to let True Axis know this is out there if they do not already know. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZtlXkE4HBg Pretty sure this has to be malware or something. I would not recommend anyone to download or try it. It just screams virus material.
Our JCS2 update was rejected I looks like it was rejected because of a pre-existing bug that occurs sometimes on the very first start up depending on how bad the connection to the server is. The update would have fixed the issue where progress is not loaded in until after log in either fails or succeeds, both of which are often taking a very long time with the current server issues we are having. We are re-configuring the server at the moment to try to fix what appears to be the bottle kneck, but it is a very very slow process.
I'm just gonna say it...maybe this wasn't ready for launch yet. Very frustrating because I'm out $5 for a game that won't save my progress.
There is no way anyone could predict the server load this has caused. Look at Sim City. Real life testing was needed. No other way around it. These issues will all be fixed in a matter of days and we will have a great game to play for many years.
I'm actually looking into seeing why this happens on Jailbroken devices. Does anybody know what packages I need to load into Cydia to make this happen? Edit: Never mind, I know exactly which apps can cause this problem.
It does save your progress, it just doesn't load it back in until the server reconnects or fails which I think could take 60 max. In all our server failure tests, things failed quickly, so we never noticed it during QA. We definite could have tested that better, although, we had already been testing our server on Android with True Skate for quite some time, with reasonably heaving loads because of all the pirates. Edit: The server is a little bit more under control now. It is off peak time no though, so it could start running into more trouble when it hits peak hour. Another upgrade is in progress though. The load has been pretty crazy. 50GB storage used up one day. We are going to have to find some ways to deal with that. We may have no choice but to not store all replays on our server if this keeps up. We will have to put on our thinking caps.
I guess you can turn the replays back on when all settles down down under. The game does save progress, just have to be patient.
Weren't expecting these kinds of downloads/number of players? Edit: decided to make that community user level thread http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=214902 So if anyone has cool levels, share them. Would be cool if we could build a sizable community, like how Bike Baron is
All the server stuff is working fine again for me now. No data loss, all my previous times on user levels are intact. Congrats on getting game of the week. This game will still be a contender when it comes to GOTY for me (though I admit there's still quite a bit of 2014 to go yet !)
Luke, do I need to create a profile in order to save my progress? Or should It work even thoug, i do not want to log in by facebook or account? If I have to, this would be a huge let down for me...
No you should be able to skip. Infact, you may have less trouble with progress that way. If you make an account later, your progress should in theory be transferred on to it. I kind of wish we didn't make it so easy for people to make accounts. We have half a million already. No wonder the server has been having a hard time.
