Coding Dutchmen I respect the fact that you witnessed a tragedy and you took the time to figure out a way to help. Even more, though, you took that crucial step of acting on that idea. That's the hard part, right? Anyone can stand around the water cooler and talk about what a horror it must be. Anyone can read the paper or watch the news and feel sorry for the families effected by this disaster. Anyone can flame a forum, but not just anyone will act. You acted. Normally, I would simply and quietly buy your app to support your efforts and the cause to which you chose to donate all of the proceeds, but reading the negative comments here made me want to speak up. Here's why: I didn't act. People talk about donating money to the Red Cross or helping in other ways, but I didn't. I'm not a struggling college student or in a low-income family living paycheck to paycheck. I have the means to help, but I didn't. The fact is, I don't read newspapers, I don't consume news on the internet, and I certainly don't watch TV. Period. It's not apathy, it's simply an extreme dislike for the way in which information is monetized and sold through these channels and I am apalled by the percentage of misinformation that is taken for fact. I'm not a bad person. I'm just a person. People, by their very nature, care about the things that are close to them. This problem was not close to me...until I saw your app. I was struck by the selfless nature of the act and I thought if these guys cared enough to spend their time on the clock, for zero monetary gain, the least I could do is find out how to help. Now I am thinking about the people this horrible event has effected. Now I am researching what happened. Now, when your app gets approved, I am donating money to the cause, via the pipeline that only you created. I've often heard people say, "If even one person benefits from my effort, then it was worth it." Well, I'm that one person. Your act made me act and I thank you for that. You made a difference in my life and a difference in the lives of the people to which you are giving the proceeds. To the people that already do any and all of these things, I applaud you, but please don't disparage the people like Coding Dutchmen that are helping to raise awareness. What if there were 1000 of me? What if this game was great and it sold 100,000 copies? Show of hands...who here has donated $70,000 dollars to help the people suffering the aftermath of this disaster? This team dedicated their time and resources over the last week to this effort and I doubt that any other business owner here did that. The quality of the app is not the point, it's the intent. The intent was to help people and if we buy the app, it will do just that.
Thank you so much for this post. I mean it. While my family has definitely given generously to the cause, I haven't been able to do anything to help out in the effort. This is a start, however insignificant it may be. Thank you, and a big thank you to the developer.
I'm looking forward to when the game gets released; even though this thread has been split quite clearly among the for/ against arguments, it's still plainly evident that everyone here cares and wants to do something to help. Those that are against this app, you'll do your bit by other means, whilst those of us who are for it will be able to add another mechanism by which we can contribute. Go for it, Coding Dutchmen!
I couldn't seem to find any information on their site, assuming it's the Sega franchise. Do you happen to have a link? Thanks!
I just thought, if the money from this app is going all to the Red Cross anyway, I'd rather buy the game than donate directly to them. What looks to be fun game in exchange for helping the people of Japan, and also a little bit to Apple, whom I also support seems like an awesome idea to me.
I really don't understand the problem with the game. Great post at the top of this page btw. So can we see a vid?
Delay Hi all, We've been viewing this thread with particular interest. At first there was a obvious separation between those supporting and those opposing our initiative. Thanks to DJ Flippy and others, I think most people now appreciate our efforts to support Japan, controversial or not. Our thanks go out to you. Unfortunately, Apple has not decided if they agree with you yet: yesterday we received an e-mail the app is in review, followed a couple of hours later by this message: We hope they'll decide what to do quickly so we can start raising funds. We'll keep you posted. Best, Coding Dutchmen
As said earlier, I think it's cool of you guys to give people another pipeline through which they can help the relief effort.
I don't think it is a good topic to start a game at this very time....But u have no fault...I personally think this game is bad in the graphics...
Some people get so angry. I'm sorry if the tsunami has in some way affected your own life, Lance, but these guys are helping the cause by donating to the fund and raising awareness. I think you're completely missing the ball here. Posting in such a huge font is not only obnoxious, but it does nothing to aid your cause or supports your argument. You're just hatin'.
Indeed. And vile gibberish like Lance_TA spewed doesn´t help anyone in Japan. This will in some way or other.
It's also pretty funny that Lance and Mfros clearly hadn't even actually read about why the game is being made before shooting their mouths off. Also, at the risk of over-propagating the meme: @Lance: U mad, bro?
Oh, i read the post, i know is for charity, BUT its a form of publicity from the dev EDIT-Im not posting anything else in this thread-
Guys, if you want to spend money on this issue, better donate your money to an official charity organization. By purchasing this app, no one can control if your money really gets to those in need. Apple has put up a link to donate directly too, in case you have missed it.
