Anything happening on the same scale as Chernobyl is almost an impossibility with the plants of today, even when the cooling fails.
HI just to drop in and say the plant did NOT explode yet, the situations stays critical, though. It won´t explode though. it was ´just´the building that explodes not the nuclear core shield. The housing of the core is still intact. Radioactive particles have been emmitted. This is really tragic / funny thing is: Fukushima 1 was suppose to be taken offline and retire this months. Small update: But on the other hand Fukushima 2-4 are having cooling problems. These are the OLDEST nuclear plants in Japan, FAIK. The cooling is not so efficient. And the explosion are Hydrogen and Oxygen Coming together. Greetz from Tokyo
i've just heard of that more than 20,000 people disappeared and the earthquake is 9 magnitude, more terrible than china's in 2008. last year, my cousin sister just married a japanese guy, but luckily, they don't live in japan now god bless those poor victims
The media are taking this and running away with it to say how bad Nuclear power is. The fact is Chernobyl plant isn't legal, it was just a poorly designed plant that could never happen again. Even though this plant is quite old in Japan, it has modern safety features so it is impossible for Chernobyl to happen. The blast that happened was probably calculated to happen to release pressure so the reactor casing isn't damaged. It's probably a safety design feature that is there in place and yet the press want to run crazy abour how bad it is and there could be a meltdown lol. Lots of plants have had "meltdowns" but it really doesn't matter because it's only partial fuel melting that just means you have to shut it down or reduce power out put. What happened at Chernobyl cannot happen again and the design of plants today means it wont ever happen again. These plants in Japan have been turned off for the past couple of days so it is impossible for them to generate the energy needed to do a Chernobyl, which was operational. The other reactor buildings might explode like the first one, but again the reactors are pretty safe, it's probably designed that way to take the damage so the reactors don't. Stop going on about how unsafe Nuclear power is, it isn't and it is the future for us. Frigging sick of the press trying to ruin human advances, people die and need to die for us as a species to evolve.
I hope in the future there would be safer energy that is neither nuclear or fossil fuels. To advance as a species we need to evolve to understand how we affect the environment and how to safely live in an environment without causing it drastic change or damage. If anything this tragedy shows us how tenuous infrastructure is at best.
Oh,it is said that the earth is heated by the global warming from Co2/industrial releases.thus when there is a little crack under the earth,it pops out huge energy!do u guys see that?japan is in the quake area in particular, and it is an island. it suffers a lot.
Our CO2 emissions barely count for 2.5% of what goes up there, the rest is all natural. The Earth is killing itself and a few assholes want us to feel bad about driving cars.
That depends on how you look at it. At the speed they claim the world is heating up, making it 2.5% slower isn't gonna change much. So maybe the ozone layer would only degrade at 97.5% it's current rate, it's still screwed.
I agree. There's no doubt that global warming is happening, but it's a natural occurrence and has happened many times in Earth's history. Sure humans contribute to it, but as you said it's a very small amount. And in a way I find it pretty arrogant how humans believe we can control Earth's future.
All THREE damaged nuclear reactors now in 'meltdown' at tsunami-hit power station http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1365781/Japan-earthquake-tsunami-All-3-Fukushima-nuclear-plant-reactors-meltdown.html?ito=feeds-newsxml
As I said. This will get very, very ugly. I guess, humanity shouldn't play with forces she can't control.
One of the reactors is on fire! http://www.smh.com.au/environment/stay-indoors-japan-pm-issues-warning-to-residents-after-blast-20110315-1buq7.html
Yeah it's slowly getting worse... I think everyone within 18 miles has been told to evacuate, and the radiation levels in Tokyo are higher than usual but it's still not dangerous to health. I still don't think we're gonna see any major disasters with this but they need to get that thing cooled down soon.
