Yup I am on water, V8, and sometimes milk not often though if I am competing.

Lifting is awesome, it burns calories just to maintain muscle, great way to lose weight....a little bit of cardio and lifting and you will see results with little effort. whey is your friend especially if you want to cut weight while maintaing muscle.

One of things I would stay away from is vitamin supplements. They've been found not to do much for you, and in some cases, can do more harm than good. Start with small changes, many of which are slight changes to your daily routine. Then, get a good pair of weights...nothing expensive...and a a chin lift bar for your doorway. If you can do a few sit ups and push ups everyday even for just a few minutes to start, that's a good way to start building endurance for longer sessions.

Good for you jchamp. This is kinda weird cuz I was thinkin about doin something like this but not extreme. I'm not really fat or anything (16 years old, 150-160 lb, 6 feet tall) but I'd definitely like to lose like 10 pounds or so. I mean I'm just a kid so I eat junk all day (btw just had a taco bell $5 box. Awesome) but I definitely could eat healthier. I do go to the gym though.

    Nice work.

Don't suppose you could share what you are eating now then?

My main vice is Pizza. I wouldn't say i was terribly over weight but after hitting 30 the old metabolism isn't what it used to be and i am definitely overweight compared to what i should be and its not getting better on its own.

Whenever i try to diet or eat healthy i always fall off the waggon and get real cravings for bad stuff.

I'd love to see a list of a weeks worth of meals and stuff.... it would be really interesting to see.

    Thanks

Good job! It's funny, because I've lost 32 pounds since the first of the year, and it wasn't any "resolution" crap, it was exactly what you experienced: I was fed up feeling overweight. I carry weight in such a way that I was never considered "fat", but I've been increasingly feeling that way. I knew I was eating like crap, and not exercizing enough. There are really no magic bullets. You have to burn more calories than you take in. That's the "magic" secret.

Nice job, champ! I see so many chub-chubs everyday and I wonder how they can get up in the morning, see themselves in the mirror, and strangle down the double quarter pounder. My metabolism is ridiculously high, even for my age (I weight a borderline health 125) and my height (5"10), so I've never really had weight problems, or if I did, the opposite of most people's, I needed more weight. I can't stand being out of shape though. It just pisses me off if I get winded walking up two flights of stairs.

    Congratulations Jchampl :)

I know where you come from, as I was somehow overweight too.
Not too much, but I did realize that was blocking me any hope to date the good looking girls I had a crush for.

I just tried a lot of methods (diet, several sports, food control, etc), and the two most game changing were Jogging, and eating Vegetables.

Only with 2 x 2 hours of pauseless jogging per week, and replacing bad food with nicely cooked vegetables, I lost 33 lbs in 1,5 monthes (209 lbs -> 176 lbs, for 73 in/186 cm high).
I even maintained 2 rich food restaurants per week.

From Judo, Karate, Savate, Capoeira, Taekwondo, Basketball, Football, Volleyball ... Jogging was really the biggest blast in my fat.

    well done, jchampl

  13. Congrats, J, ya done good. I've got a good 40-50lbs I could definitely stand to use (almost all of it in the upper body), but I have several obstacles in the way:

    1) I injured the calf muscle in my right leg a few years ago and it's never been quite the same since, so I can't run for long periods, and jogging, only a little longer.

    2) I have what I can only believe is a kind of eating addiction that I developed as an unconscious treatment for stress. It doesn't really matter what I eat so long as I eat, or am chewing something -- even gum, but I do need variety. I have tried to pick snacks that are healthy (fruits and vegetables) and I do love those, but eventually my body craves something else, usually salty or sweet, so chips, candy bards, whatever. Which brings me to...

    3) I have next to no self-control, willpower, or discipline, and I have significant trouble incorporating new routines into my daily life because I always forget to do whatever it is I'm trying to incorporate. I have a terrible short-term memory for things I don't actually want to do, or even for things I want to do but which have inconvenient or undesirable side effects.

Now, I have partly mitigated the problem. I stopped drinking pop almost completely, and drink bottled water. I almost completely switched from coffee (which I used to take triple-triple using 18% table cream) to tea (which I take with skim or 1-2% milk only and less sugar), except for one coffee in the morning, because taking away my morning coffee is inhumane. :)

I do a fair bit of walking, mainly because I don't have a car, and this addiction to munching thing only ever really manifests itself at work (where I sit behind my own desk in my own office and so have free reign to do so), so I think that combined with cutting out sodas and frequent coffees with lots of cream has kept my weight about where it is, but hasn't allowed me to reduce it. I do want to lose the gut, but it seems pretty difficult to overcome the other obstacles -- and I've tried.

    Great Accomplishment jchampl!

I went from 250# down to under 185# in less than 8 months. Got tired of being overweight but didn't show it too much but felt it. Didn't drink much but just didn't take care of myself like I should of. I'd raced jetski's at our local club chapter events and around Fla. state and was trim then but after that I'd start gaining the weight more and age was beginning to be a factor too.

So bought a Trek FX bike and simply started riding around town and our RR trails but have progressed to 50+ miles (mostly weekends w/ weather permitting). This is the only exercise I really do. Besides work...heh
The lbs just dropped off me and still the same after 2 yrs. I still eat the same foods mainly but cut portions down which is the key to losing weight(for me).
Now I'm in the market for a Cannondale road bike ($$$). That how much I got into it.

Those of you interested but want to enjoy exercising to keep coming back to it: Try low impact exercising like bike riding, swimming, walking, elliptical machine and walking the treadmill is good too.
Low impact meaning your not slamming your feet onto pavement and shocking your ankles when jogging ,etc. (I've got weak ankles btw)

    Again....congrats jchampl!

You bet man, we are about the same age and I know exactly what you mean. I will post a weeks worth of food logs and some of my favorite meals. I really hate veggies, so unless you see v8 I'm really lacking in lose but I just can't stomach them.

    Congrats!

This doesn't really pertain to me much (I expected a solution to get off my lazy ass and do work, not exercise but it's still a great story!) but great for you!

    Congrats again!
