Windows 7 detects the iPod, iTunes doesn't.
Different USB ports make no difference.

Those are all the details I know since it's not me this is happening to... anyone know?

Close all apps in multitasking, then power off/back on to clear all memory. If that doesn't work...maybe put the device into DFU mode and restore from backup?

Do you think it's a good idea to try DFU mode? Won't it get stuck there if iTunes still won't recognise it?

If it doesn't work, you can always get out of DFU mode if it doesn't work by simply holding home and sleep for 10 seconds.

Alright DFU mode worked, but it won't restore. It comes up with "The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1611)".

    iTunes is up to date.

A simple PC restart fixed the restore error, all sorted now. Thanks for the help :)
