So I just bought a $50 iTunes gift card on ebay from a guy with a feedback of 100% with over 100 reviewers. The card cost $50 and the only reason I bought it on eBay was because I didn't feel like going to the store and for some reason, iTunes keeps telling me I've reached my limit on the amount of email gift cards I can purchase from the iTunes store. Anyways - I paid the guy $50 and he immediately sent me the code, I went to redeem it and it worked fine. However, I received an email from eBay about 5 minutes ago saying the listing I bought was fraudulent and they refunded my money. I've heard about the scams where people are using others credit card numbers to purchse gift cards (like selling $200 gift cards for $50), it apparently looks like thats what this is. I guess my question is should I contact Apple and let them know? Or should I just not say anything and take the fact that I just got a $50 gift card for free as a blessing? I really dont want to jeopardize my iTunes account over this... Im just really not sure what I should do
This is a growing scam which is why it's a good rule not to buy iTune cards off of eBay ever. Reviews can easily be faked so those are worthless. Is the gift card still applied to your account? If it is, I would suggest you contact iTunes customer service so they know upfront what happened. You don't want them finding out and then making assumptions before you have anything to say about it. Keep any documentation you have (emails) since you may need to forward that on as evidence.
Ok, then you need to contact iTunes customer service and let them know what's going on. You'll probably have to pay for the purchases you're already made, but you really need to let them know asap.
Will do - I sent them an email and included the emails I got from eBay... hopefully I'll get a reply and get this resolved before they suspend my account
Apple will suspend accounts if there is any suspicion of wrongdoing on the part of the account holder. That's why it's important to have the ebay documents showing that jecebn purchased this from a fraudulent third party.
Hmm, check out this email I just got from the guy who sold me the code Hi, Hope you are enjoying your $50 itunes gift card purchase. I've just been made aware by paypal that my account is under review because they "are not comfortable with the number of gift cards I've sold recently". It has been frustrating to me because they frozen my funds pending review, and will verify with you guys (the buyers) that you've actually received the gift cards. The gift cards are fine and note that I have 100% feedback on ebay and 8 years history on ebay. I'm eager to get the limitation lifted so I can start selling again. However, paypal informed me that they want to verify with my buyers independently. I kindly ask that you help verify the purchase and not try to "screw me". Several buyers have emailed me already, and I am extremely grateful for your support! Thanks for your time! I would greatly appreciate your help so I can start selling again because frankly, paypal reviews are a pain in the butt. Cheers, Dan. He signed the email as Dan, but on the email the name was Xiaodan Wang...
Definitely fishy. Also, "Screw Me" sounds really unofficial. I say go ahead with contacting apple, and put this email in your trash bin.
Y Contact apple they might not believe you. The e-mail seems fishy. Just keep the card and put it behind u. I would say do the right thing but apple will just say "ppppppffffffffttttttt" and not do a thing. My 2 cents (don't flame me ppl)
The email is definitely fishy, and my guess is this is how he usually does it. All he needs is a few sympathetic buyers to agree to his request, and he's back in business.
Well you DID get a card that DID work, right? So if eBay asks you if he gave you a working iTunes giftcard the only true answers would be yes, right?
Yea the code he emailed to me worked, but I'm not 100% sure he obtained that code legally... and since Im the one who cashed in the code, im worried that Apple will think I am the fraudulent party in the equation.
I would rather him be a legit seller and I think he is fake, than I think he is legit and he is fake... True. BTW: Nice signature
