I dunno if it's just me having a stupid moment or if it's obvious, but how do you set up iTunes to automatically delete any apps from your computer that you've deleted yourself from the device? Is it possible? I used to keep all of my app files on my PC even if they weren't in the library or on my device, but they take up too much room, so now if it's not on my device, it's not on the computer either. If I want it again I'll download it again.
You don't. If you are set up to sync all apps - iTunes makes the apps look like the ones on your computer. If you are set to sync some apps, it will do the same. Transferring purchases beforehand will prevent app deletion. Another handy trick is that if you are not auto-syncing and you plug in your device, then delete apps manually, they will "uncheck" in the "Sync these apps only" section. That's how I remove apps from the list since I've glitched 25 or so pages, and don't want to touch the Applications tab and lose that. I move IPA files from the Mobile Applications folder by hand into an archive folder (or delete them if I am no longer interested in the app.) Right now I've got 1645 apps in my library, 492 on my iPod Touch. Things start to get flaky above 500 (and very much so above 530) so it's time for me to clear stuff out again.
Alright, I'll just have to keep track of what I remove then. 1645 apps! And you've had your device for how long? I'm trying to keep the number of games on my device under 100, with maybe 30 or so misc apps.
I've had this thing for about a year now. Oh, and that figure doesn't include apps I've already archived...
I have a Word doc where I register every app I buy and every free app I use. In this way I can delete apps both in iTunes and on my Ipod Touch that I don't use pt and download them again when I need them.
I move them to another folder on a drive that has a lot more space. They're broken up into Puzzle/Platforming/Action/Camera/etc. so if I manage to need something again, I can just drag it back to iTunes.
Naw. Of course after this, they show up with an X in iTunes, but then you can delete them without having to go through the "delete/keep files" dialog, so it's a lot faster.
I like keeping stuff in my iTunes library even after deleting or moving the actual files so the data such as Date Added remains
I don't even know how that's possible, I got mine in late 2007 and I've only downloaded 260 apps total.
