It looks splendid, but looking good is helpless knowing that the game is "put on hold" for now, with destinations unknown. It really looks like there's a lot of work already done here, too bad it seems so far from release. All I'm suggesting is, don't let the carpet get tugged out from below you. I'd hate to have been eagerly following the development of this game as long as I have been, only to see another development house come out with something either extremely similar making the eventual release of this title seem like a carbon copy, or to see something else come out that blows this out of the water making this seem dated and uninspired. Don't take my verbiage as negative, I'm just suggesting that the more time that passes, the more people are going to step up to the plate and attempt to build very interactive, 3D engine driven, polished RPG games. And there's a good chance that a lot of those will have at least some sort of online component, even if it's an achievement system through Open Feint or Plus+. There's also a really good chance they can blend other online components together, such as Pocket Legends or IMO. I'm eager to see where Apple stands with Unity, but I also know this game has been in development for quite some time, and I'd hate to see all of that go to waste. From what I see, this has the beginnings of something I would easily pay for. Oh, and: All you'd need is $99 to purchase a new iPhone 3G to upgrade from the 2G model. And if you're interested in the 3Gs it will be dropping in price when the iPhone 4 comes out. I for one have upgraded every year to the newest model and have never spent $500 on any single device. Right now, I'm using the 32GB iPhone 3Gs.
wow looks awesome at last a full wow clone on the iphone cant wait release it please litle fast then you can start upgrade
Hey! Would you look any better in your tighty-whiteys?? This was a WIP Dwarf char we had in the world for scale tests and zone prototyping.
Our plan has been for it to run well on iphone 3G & 2nd gen Touch on up... The video footage we just posted was actually taken from a 3G iphone. Obviously the 3Gs, iPad, and now the awesome iPhone 4 would scale up in graphic polish. The new iOS 4 doesn't really add much to the existing hardware capabilities of the earlier generation devices, but it certainly does take it back to a more universal platform to plan for.
I have one word - WOW!!! As a game dev myself, i can appreciate the efforts gone into this game more than users, i guess. Looks awesome... looking forward to grab the promocodes...
Wait this is coming to the iPad too???? Holy.....I must say quantum squid with this and veggie samurai HD, you guys are coming close to one of my favorite devs with venan arcade and chillingo.
So happy to see that this is still on your mind! Only criticism I have is to be sure that your UI and skill icons match with the world that you are in. This was obviously an early build but the UI looked a bit out of place in my opinion. Not sure how you plan to deal with all the buttons you will need for skills and such but might I recommend a smaller amount of buttons with a swipe mechanic to switch through sets of buttons. (I believe imo has a system like this with 4 skill buttons on screen BUT if you sipe over them instead of press them the next 4 skills come on screen. This allows for many skills without taking up the whole screen) I am VERY excited to see where you take this!
One thing to keep in mind about upgrades on iPhones, at least in the US, is that the phone price is subsidized by AT&T. Therefore, you get a phone for $99, $199 or $299 with a new two year AT&T contract. If you buy a phone separate from AT&T or without a two contract I believe the unsubstidized prices are $599 and $699 usually. That does it make it somewhat difficult to grab each model of the phone. The system is set up for biannual upgrades, which means you'll still have a ton with a 3GS and a good amount with a 3G still (the 2nd gen phone). It does suck because my 3GS is capable of much better graphics than most games offer right now, but if developers force higher end phones to run their games, they really cut down on their bottom line. PC developers run into the same issue. Games like Crysis, which had crazy high sys requirements sold like garbage but the Call of Duty games, known for having pretty lax system requirements (even people with pretty old PC's can run them) sells like crazy. With that said, I don't think you'll see games really take advantage of the 4th gen phone for a while, short of a few here and there. They will be cutting out the majority of their iPhone and iPod Touch market, which really lowers how much they can make on that game.
The video looks great. I don't know how you can manage that in a multiplayer format, but if it works, awesome.
Holy shit, finally theres a video of it's gameplay now! and it looks amazing..But judging from the scale of the game, we're lucky to see it early next year.
sorry for straying off topic a bit exactly my thoughts. 1st gens are what, roughly 4 years old now? idevices are more then 10x faster, better then the original. this is no different then having a PS2 and demanding developers to make all of their games PS3 and PS2 compatible.. then you guys will have to deal with the current and older games, whether its now or later. iPhone 2G is already being cut off this year with not being given iOS4, so i wouldnt excpect any more new (great) games starting from Q3 this year and no more games from the start of 2011 back on topic tho, game is looking good but i dont really like that character but at least its just an early WIP Dwarf character
