Oh yeah, I'm sad aren't I? What with the enjoying seeing my friends and family who I haven't been with in Months and watching them with their friends and family. I'll take your advice and take a trip out shopping tomorrow.

I heard some people saying that the second batch of iPhone 4's will not have the antenna/reception issue. If so, then when will the second batch ship? I'm gonna get the iP4 when it comes out in australia, and hope that the problem will be fixed by then.

EDIT: Also, what case should I get when some 3rd party ones come out? I've heard it's really fragile. I've been thinking about the Speck Candyshell for iPhone 4. What do you recommend? I need one that also shows the design of the iPhone whilst protecting it from drops and scratches.

  4. I haven't seen any mention or rumours around official circuits yet, so as much as I'd like to believe this -- and hope that it turns out to be true (as we'll be getting ours in Canada in the next 2-3 weeks), I'm not going to hang my hat on this one. In fact, the latest word I heard is that, while there's no news about an antenna fix, AppleCare reps are confirming that the software update won't fix the problem.

Looks like my White bumper was sent today (despite it saying "ships in 3 weeks")... Anyone know roughly how fast Apple gets stuff to your door?

My iPhone 4 shipped yesterday, so I guess that's the "second batch"? I ordered 2 to 3 day shipping, so it's suppose to arrive Friday. I'm in the US.

I don't know if there will be a "fix" for the antenna issue, but I hope so. I'm not crazy about any of the cases out there and would prefer not to use one. The bumper case looks the best as it least obscures the look of the phone and the edges actually look good, but the headphone port may be problematic for me since my headphones, which are going nowhere (Westone UM2's), have an angled head. I am hoping I can try the case out at the Apple store to see if it will work. The dock connector opening is also an issue, but I figure that's solvable by getting something with a normal-sized dock connector. I'm not sure I can't fault Apple for some other company making a too-big dock connector. Seems pretty stupid to me that the connectors are too big, not that the opening on the bumper case is sized for a normal one.

I got mine on Saturday, definitely the second batch and the signal issue is there on both my phone and my girlfriends. I'm pretty sure it won't bother you at all as once I had the phone and knew how not to cause the problem, it was smooth sailing from there.

So you can avoid the problem when calling? Good. But i'm still worried about the iPhone being very delicate and if it falls, the glass will crack. So still trying to find a case... i've read some reviews on the bumper and everyone says they are not worth it and they don't provide any protection.

It really depends mate, I'd say a good case is a must. But it's hard to think of a good set up that shows the beauty of the phone off. I am thinking the best idea for my phone is a bumper and front/back screen protector. I have heard that some people have dropped their phones on the pavement/sidewalk and avoided any damage (using the bumper). Just spend some time searching for a set up that suits you. :)

Just got a generic bumper from iluv, black is all I could get..BUT it does come with front and back screen protectors. I'm still waiting on my whit bumper from apple (backordered til the 20th). Also I have to keep this replacement and not getting a brand new one. Long story but typing from the phone. Needless to say I'm pissed off and stuck between a rock and a hard place.

If I was in your position then I would look into owning another smartphone. It sounds like you were given unfair service for a defective product and you really shouldn't have to put up with this. I hope you don't own all Apple products because this is a good example of why you shouldn't keep your eggs in one basket.

Haven't been following the thread too closely, Brian what's all happened to you? Sounds like you've been having a lot of trouble.

I've been thinking about the Wrapsol Ultra only, cuz it provides some drop protection too. I wouldn't really need the bumper then, my dad probably wouldn't let me get two protective accessories... Do skins like Wrapsol stop the reception issue from occurring?

Yes mate, Wrapsol would definitely cut out all signs of the reception issue. Forgive me, but I think those full body protectors are a pain in the arse to fit. I have enough problems with applying just a front screen shield (because of dirt and bubbles etc)... In essence, what I suggested is a very similar layout. The bumper comprises all of the side parts of the Wrapsol and the front and back protector offer exactly what the Wrapsol does. Most sites, like SGP offer a double pack of protectors (front/back). Hope that helps buddy.

Wrapsol Ultras are supposedly the best screen protectors around, but they don't offer real drop protection. It will prevent your iPhone from being scratched and it can't really provide the same kind of protection a polycarbonate case does. I suggest getting a protective case for your iPhone but either way iPhones are very durable units despite how blogging sites sensationalize how the backs can be cracked. Screen protecters won't solve the antenna issue because they only cover the front and back of the iPhone. EDIT: It looks like Wrapsols come side screen protectors too but I don't know if that would address the antenna issue.

Hold on pal, Ric is after the Wrapsol Ultra which is a full body kit, so it would eliminate the problem. As would the bumper/screen protector set up.

I'm gonna make a decision now: buy the bumper with the iPhone, then buy the front and back screen shields from either a brand at the apple store, or order a set online from power support or the sgp ex. Thanks for the help, sammysin.

Fring now supports Skype video calls, including over 3G (and I guess Edge - not sure). Nifty. You don't get the quality of Facetime, I don't think, probably not nearly, but I don't have any family members with an iPhone, let alone a 4, so this is the next best thing. Not to mention that it works over 3G (probably because it's lower quality? I don't know.) Anyway, my family does have and use Skype on occasion, so this is great. I'm surprised there hasn't been an update to the official Skype app, though I'm sure that's coming. In the mean time I'll try this. Having said that, I have not yet been able to test it out to see if it actually works!
