You can play Laser Squad inside of Commodore 64 while waiting for this to come out! :)

    Yup.

    But...

It is an honest-to-goodness Julian Gollop tactical squad game, and the gameplay is solid, I assure you. (And it's a free game in the C64 app!)

When is this coming out? Or is it out? (I am at work so I can't check.)

If this thing goes well, then we definitely need Jagged Alliance on iPhone!

X-Com and JA are the best games ever

If your game is half as good as X-Com count me in day 1! I'll keep an eye on it! Thanks for that :)

I'll take it this project is dead? Considering the lead is now working on Lost Company?

    Far from it.

My entire game engine is written from scratch and is shared across all my projects. So on the programming side, Lost Company has seen major improvements made to the Turn Based Engine, AI module, Online play modes and full 3D support (needed for the geoscape) - all of which are now used in Isochron too.

I'm also still collaborating with artists for in game content, and this takes time. I'm lucky to be working with an artist on Lost Company that has a lot more time to dedicate to content - and that's why you'll be seeing more updates for LC (And probably see LC released first). But once I have enough content to show in Isochron, I'll be giving more info and updates. Rest assured though, the core code of Isochron is progressing faster than ever.

Oh wow. I am a huge x-com fan. I still run TFTD on my mac through a windows emulator. Was running it through a dos emulator but it was easier to go buy a CD Rom for windows. Anyhow, I am looking forward to this. I am hugely disappointing that the S2K release is a FPS. I am a FPS fan, but the story of x-com was not its greatness as much as its gameplay mechanics.

They did one last turn based game that was decent on GBA called Rebel Star but it was more like an X-com light and lacked much of the famous managing elements. Even though I had always wished someday to have made my own x-com inspired game I am happy to see that someone already is and I hope you rock it. I look forward to picking it up once it comes out.

Soo, things are moving along for Isochron again. I've just about finished a level editor and the tactical engine has received a complete rewrite to support a bunch of cool features.

How many of you out there would be interested in creating a few level modules with the editor for inclusion in the game? The editor only works on Macs at the moment, but if enough are interested in an iOS version I could make a port I guess.. Leave a comment if isometric level editing is something you'd like to do.

Thanks for your patience and support so far for Isochron - It's truly a massive project for just one guy, but thanks to all the volunteers and donations it's actually coming together.

The game looks amazing. I haven't played X-Com in what seems like eons. Seeing this brings back good memories. I'm gonna have to dig my copy out of storage to tide me over on the wait for this.

X-Com UFO Defense = Best. Game. Ever.

18 years and I still feel the urge to play it from time to time.
